Thoroughly Modern Marriage, Ace Hotel X Knot & Pop, was back bigger and better than ever.
The inaugural event took place in 2016 and was a refreshing and alternative wedding showcase, to inspire modern minded couples.
September 2018 marked it’s return, taking over the stunning Rooftop Venue spaces at Ace Hotel.
Bringing couples the best of wedding industry insiders, TMM is more than your standard wedding fayre.
Susie Young, Founder of Knot & Pop, says “Having attended a lot of wedding fayres over the years, I and Ace Hotel wanted to do things a little bit differently. We purposely kept it curated, hand-picking the suppliers to showcase, and making it really immersive and interactive so couples left feeling really excited and inspired for their wedding day, and marriage ahead.”
Guests entered Ace Hotel and travelled up a flower filled lift by Worm London. Moving through to the 100 Room Bar, a welcome board with messages and tips from couples who had their wedding day at Ace Hotel was on show, scribed by Pale Press London. Xavior String Quartet played reinterpreted pop classics, with The Painted Lady on hand for manicures.
The 100 Room was set as if for Ceremony with a floral cloud installation hanging overhead – with panoramic views over the London skyline, a floral cloud was the perfect choice for this space. The room was styled with ghost chairs, to focus the eye outward, to the view.
The 100 Room later played host to a panel discussion chaired by Project Love, and focused on Love & Marriage.
“Amongst all the pretty and the planning, I’m amazed that so little of the conversation in the industry and media actually focuses on marriage, and the relationship. We therefore invited Project Love to chair this discussion with three couples, each at different stages of their married lives together, sharing their stories and experiences” says Susie.
Following the panel chat, the room was then turned over for dancing, with Wedding Smashers taking to the decks and Boxless Booths for all the fun of the photo-booth.
Throughout the event, the Empire and Griffin Rooms were open for dining with the spaces designed and dressed by Knot & Pop. Two distinctly different looks were created for the rooms – but both drawing on the Ace space and materials as inspiration to best enhance the surrounds.
Wheat field projections formed the backdrop for Look 1, with an autumnal city picnic feel created. Giving gingham a modern interpretation, textures were layered and plenty of candlelight added to set an inviting scene.
A more minimal design was produced for Look 2, with crisp white linens, contemporary finishes and bright florals with some peachy lighting to perfectly complement the coloured candles.
Guests were able to choose their room, to dine and sample mini mains and desserts from the in-house catering team at Ace Hotel, with menus by Pale Press London and playful place cards names – ‘Little Miss Behaving’, ‘The Lush’, ‘MIA Usher’ and ‘Last One Standing’.
Space NK were also on hand for ‘Find Your Foundation’ trials, make up and skincare advise with a beautiful Scent Station by Evermore London.
Bringing couples a cake with a difference, we were thrilled to welcome KUF Cakes – a multi-disciplinary design studio with Kia at the helm who surprises and delights with each new invention. This time, terrazzo tiled chocolates and a delicious twist on the Scandinavian delicacy ‘Flødeboller’.
The House of Love Illustrations roamed the event drawing guests and creating a live wall of illustrations that captured the event in full swing.
