Catriona & Barny’s The Lodge on Loch Goil Wedding

Written by Emma Hla
The Lodge on Loch Goil recently won ‘Best Luxury Wedding Venue – Scotland’. I know this award really means a lot to the team, as a small family run venue they really do pour their heart and soul into every wedding that they host.

The locations on offer at The Lodge are truly stunning and it’s clear to see why Catriona & Barny chose this spot for their own celebration…

Notes from the Bride

Catriona says…

Myself and Barny have been together for almost 6 years. Barny first saw me when I was working in the local pub and said to his friend that’s the girl I am going to marry (unknown to me of course). Fast forward a couple of years and we officially met!

Barny proposed to me whilst on our stopover to Australia in Hong Kong. We were going out to visit Barny’s family and it was completely unexpected. I couldn’t believe it and I was so happy. Barny was super nervous about not losing the engagement ring going through the airports and me not finding it. It happened on the cable car going up to see the giant Buddha and path of wisdom. At the top, we phoned our families and told them our happy news!

When looking for a venue, we wanted something small and intimate where our closest friends and family could come and stay with us for our special day. The Lodge was a perfect size and the location was lovely and quaint, with lots of little places for the other guests to stay also. Of course the tree house was an immediate attraction as it’s so unique and beautiful. We also wanted the rustic theme as we both love the outdoors. We love visiting the west coast with our dogs on holidays, so it just felt right to choose The Lodge.

The Lodge was a dream come true as far as weddings go. Alice and her team were second to none in absolute professionalism. You really are treated like the most important people in the world. The whole weekend from the Friday afternoon arriving to Sunday when we were leaving truly was exceptional and we couldn’t of asked for a better time.

I tried on a few wedding dresses. I was advised to try lots of styles, even though I had a style in mind. I chose a dress which I immediately loved. Sadly, a month later I got a call from the bridal boutique saying the designer and dress was no longer available. The team were great and thankfully gave me my money back! I had to then start all over again in finding my dream dress. I went to a shop in Peterculter called Bridal Boutique. It was just a small shop but I actually thought that made it much easier to choose my dress. I chose a dress by Madeline Gardner.

Our favourite part of the day was obviously the moment we got married, but signing the papers in the tree house was also pretty special. To celebrate we continued the adventure with a mini-moon in Iceland.
