Sarah & Luke’s Rustic Wedding at The Crown Inn

by Emma Hla
Images by Photography by Bea.

It was a rustic and rather intimate wedding day for Sarah & Luke who opted to marry at their family Church and hold a simple reception at The Crown Inn in Buckinghamshire.

This venue is a charming wedding venue in the heart of enchanting Old Amersham and is a quintessentially English setting. With a wedding planned from abroad and from the heart, Photography by Bea has captured this couple’s story perfectly…

Notes from the Bride

Sarah:

We wanted a small, intimate wedding (we had 33 guests in the end) and the church (St Pauls, Chalfont St Peter) was the perfect size. It also had an important family connection as my Grandparents and Parents were both married there which was really special. We chose The Crown at Old Amersham for our reception as it had a cosy, rustic charm and the reception room was the perfect size for our guests.

My dress was the Olma from Provonias bought via preloved from Bridal Wish and the shoes were No 1. Jenny Packham from Debenhams. I actually found the dress in Denmark in the town where we live but bought it online in the UK. Dress shopping was probably the most stressful part for me as I looked mostly in Denmark and had to go to the appointments on my own but I think, in the end, it helped me make a decision more quickly. If I’d been in the UK I think I would have been deliberating for months over the dress and ended up going to every shop in the country!

I knew I wanted a simple 1920’s, 30’s style dress with enough detail to make it feel special. It was important that it was comfortable and not restrictive and also not with a wide skirt as the aisle at the church is tiny! My hair slide was from Agnes Hart and although I did my makeup myself, my hair was expertly styled by Luca at Gatsby and Miller, Amersham.

For Luke the tailoring of the suit was key and of course the shoes were a very important detail as he designs shoes for a living. He opted for a Hugo Boss suit and a pair of Grenson shoes.

We didn’t really set out with a theme as such but in the end the décor was quite rustic and English country style which really suited both the Church and the reception venue. Our flowers were arranged Ann Middleton, a friend of my late Grandmother. She also does the flowers regularly at St Pauls where we were married so she was the perfect choice and did an amazing job.

The Cake was by Annas Bakes and doubled up as our dessert. The flavours were customised for us and we chose sticky toffee blondie (sticky toffee pudding is Luke’s favourite dessert) and chocolate brownie (my favourite dessert!)

We interviewed several photographers via skype but immediately liked Bea as she was very calm and relaxed but organised and of course we loved her romantic photography style. On the day she was fantastic and a very calming person to have around, especially while we were getting ready and she captured all the lovely moments from the day. When we look back at the photos we can really relive the day through the images as they tell the story of our wedding so well.

Everything was so lovely, but I especially loved; saying our vows in front of family and friends, the car ride to and from the Church first with my Dad and then later with Luke and the drinks reception in the garden with the sun shining!

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

Keep it simple and invite the people that are really important in your life. Create a day thats not to impress but a day that everyone will enjoy and feels a part of.

As we had to plan our wedding from Denmark where we are currently living we couldn’t get so involved in the tiny details. My parents were amazing and really helped us out a lot (we couldn’t have done it without them) but I think that meant we stayed true to what we wanted without getting caught up in the detail – an intimate, simple, stress free day surrounded by close family and friends.

Enjoy every minute of the day as its true what they say – it goes in a flash! Most importantly stay true to what you want – it’s your day.
