Kitty & Charles’ Old Royal Naval College Wedding

by Caitlin Hoare
Any wedding featuring The Painted Hall at The Old Royal Naval College is sure to be impressive but Kitty & Charles’ chic London celebration is something else entirely.

Although they had to cull their guest numbers from 150 to 40 (more on that later) their day was still the elegant, timeless, beautiful bash that they had always planned for. From Kitty’s bespoke Emma Beaumont dress (swoon) to their al fresco wedding breakfast in the Colonnades and their couple’s portraits in the breath-taking Painted Hall, this wedding, captured beautifully by Emmy Shoots, is hands down one of my absolute faves this year.

I urge you to scroll (slowly) and soak up every last detail from this delightful day…

Notes from the Bride

Kitty says…

We were living in Blackheath and even though we are both from the North we really wanted to have a London wedding and somewhere that was special to us as a couple. Having Greenwich on our doorstep was a dream and when we visited The Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College we just knew it was the perfect place for us.

I was lucky enough to have Emma Beaumont design and make my wedding dress. After getting engaged I was browsing Pinterest and found what I thought was ‘the’ dress. It took me ages to hunt down the designer – then when I figured it was Emma it was just meant to be. I had all my fittings at her studio in Knutsford and loved every part of that journey. My shoes were Jimmy Choo and my something borrowed was a diamond bracelet from my auntie. My something blue was a pair of diamond and aquamarine earrings that my other auntie gifted me and were reset by Sabine Roemer. Sabine also designed my engagement ring and both of our wedding rings.

We got married in the exquisite Chapel of St Peter and St Paul then we had our wedding reception, wedding breakfast and dancing on site in the Queen Mary Colonnades.

As the buildings are so impressive we wanted to keep the styling quite minimal but with beautiful touches and elegant finishes. We went neutral with our flowers which were beautifully created by Lavender Green Flowers, focussing on ivory and nude tones through the use of cappuccino roses, dried bunny tail grasses, white hydrangea, spray roses and Mondial Roses. The designed featured lots of seasonal, soft green foliage such as mixed Eucalyptus, Asparagus and Olive and bleached Ruscus, as well as touches of thistle to complement the Painted Hall’s beauty.

Our cake was a two-tier red velvet and vanilla cake by Cake Boy, decorated with white icing and tumbling pink roses, it was almost too beautiful to cut! We cut the cake in the Colonnades before kicking off the evening’s festivities with our first dance, followed by fireworks.

Finding a photographer is one the hardest parts of planning a wedding. But when I stumbled upon Emmy Shoots‘ work I just knew she would be the perfect person to capture the day. I absolutely love her fine art style and the editorial edge she brings to her photographs. We also received some film images from Emmy which I know we’ll look back on for years to come – she truly captured the essence of what was an incredibly special day.

Best part of the day

That’s impossible to say! We had originally planned our wedding for 150 people but my husband got Covid 10 days before the big day, so we had to cut our numbers to just over 40. This was incredibly stressful but I was just so thankful to have our family and closest friends at the wedding. Every moment was perfect – even the weather held out!

From one couple to another…

Trust your instinct when planning and do what’s best for you as a couple!
