Sophie & Troy’s Boho Wedding in the Kentish Countryside

Written by Emma Hla
Rolling it back to the summer with this glorious boho wedding celebration for Sophie & Troy.

The Ferry House really does have it all; a dreamy outdoor ceremony spot, a beautiful rustic oak barn, panoramic views of the Thames estuary and surrounding nature reserves, and onsite guest accommodation. No wonder S&T both fell in love with this particular spot in the Kentish countryside.

Notes from the Bride

Sophie says…

When looking for a venue we both knew what we didn’t want, and equally we both knew we wanted something with some outside space in the countryside. I was really keen on somewhere with a barn where we could either have the ceremony or dinner. We both felt that The Ferry House was so different to a lot of the venues we had seen and when we came to view it, Lauren made us feel so comfortable. It was the only venue we both loved and felt like it was really exactly what we were after.

My dress was handmade from vintage lace by the incredible Phiney at Poppy Perspective – I had seen her Instagram account and knew that I had to have one of her dresses! My makeup was done by Chantelle Roostan who is a makeup artist local to me – I loved the look she was able to create! My hair was done by Mel Meredith who I knew through a friend. My hair was what I was most conscious of – having short hair I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do anything with it but I was so pleased with how it turned out. I found a dried flower hair piece on Etsy which I felt went perfectly with my dress and wasn’t too OTT.

The bridesmaids had made to measure multiway dress by La Closet de Chanel. The dresses are really flexible in terms of design and there were so many shades to choose from. I went with rust as I just loved the colour. I really wanted something that would be in contrast to the Groom’s & Groomsmen’s suits.

The Groom wore a lightweight three piece beige suit from Moss Bros. – as we got married in July I was worried that the Groom and Groomsmen would be really hot, so we made sure to choose a lightweight cotton suit rather than anything too heavy.

I wouldn’t say we really had a theme as such, but it was very relaxed boho/ rustic. We kept the ceremony very simple with Idyllic Days doing chair decor and I added some vases with pampas grass in to go along the aisle. For the dinner centerpieces, I topped a log slice with a macramé jar and some dried flowers in bottles. I am a big believer is less is more so I really didn’t want huge centerpieces where people wouldn’t be able to talk over dinner or anything that took away from the stunning views of the Ferry House.

Our florist was Claire, from Bud & Barrow Flowers, and she was fantastic and knew what would be in bloom and how to create the bouquets we wanted. Claire also did the flower hoop rings in the marquee, the table centrepieces and the Groom’s/Groomsmen’s buttonholes.

The Ferry House did both our catering and wedding cake. We loved that the food was local and fresh and onsite. We had lamb shank for the dinner and a selection of canapés for during the drinks reception. For our evening food, we had a BBQ.

Our photographer was Chris Blackledge who was recommended to us by the venue. We booked Chris pretty much instantly – he was so personable and we loved his style of photography! We met him before the wedding when he did our engagement shoot which made us super excited for the wedding day! We are SO pleased with how our pictures turned out!!

Best part of the day

Having everyone together.

From one couple to another…

Whether it is traditional or not – it’s your day so do exactly what you want to do!

Try making decor – it’s cheaper and adds a nice personal touch.
