Surrounded by fields, this stunning barn conversion is made up of a set of barns; ceremonies take place in the Main Barn which boasts high ceilings, large windows, a wall of fairy lights and it can seat up to 140 guests. This then becomes the dance floor in the evening, with a mezzanine for DJs to play on, and no sound limits (so you can crank that music high!).
There is a separate Dining Room, which can be set up the day before with either rounds or long tables and a separate bar to serve guests during the meal. The Bar looks out onto the Courtyard which houses a 200 year old olive tree, and has doors that can open the whole side of the bar to create a lovely flow between the barns and outside.
They also have a chill out Wheelhouse, ideal for guests ready to kick off their shoes and put their feet up as the night wears on, and a VIP room for couples to leave a change of clothes, bag of makeup or to have a quick drink in private together.
There’s accommodation on site too including a Farmhouse which sleeps up to 9 guests, and the Laundry Cottage which is usually reserved for the couple.
The light throughout the venue is just incredible. With huge windows in the Main Barn which photographers rave about – it makes ceremony photos so natural (no flash needed!), and there’s a wall of bi-fold doors in the bar which open the whole of the room into the courtyard on hot days.
There’s an old/new vibe throughout the venue; mixing the old brickwork with more modern styling to create a contemporary and stylish feel throughout. In the renovation of the barns, they kept as many of the original features, dating back 300 years. These include the original brickwork, stunning arched stables, old gate posts and wooden beams, plus an old brick trough and hay racks. The more modern features are classical and stylish, using Farrow & Ball paint, stunning lime wash in the Bar and neutral furniture throughout.

“The Main Barn has an incredibly calm feel to it, and with our hanging iron rings all decorated for weddings – it just looks so beautiful. You don’t need much in terms of decorations at Thirsk Lodge Barns as the venue has so much character as it is…” – Letty, Owner
As much as we love the interiors on show here, there are plenty of outdoor areas too including their courtyard, which has the huge 200 year old olive tree in its centre. The courtyard is where most people have their group photos, meaning that couples aren’t taken away from all their guests during the drinks reception.
There’s also the choice of getting married in the great outdoors! They have a stunning lawn with wild flowers and long grass growing in it. Down the middle they have mown out a path (the aisle!) and a large circle ready for guests seating and for the ceremony to take place.
At Thirsk Lodge Barns couples are welcome to come and set up the day before, meaning that you’re arriving on your wedding day knowing that everything is just how you want it to be. They don’t do back-to-back weddings and the team love giving their couples time to enjoy getting ready for their big day!

The venue also let couples choose their own caterers, florist and other suppliers – meaning they can stick to their own style and budget – and it makes every wedding feel so unique and personal.
On site they have a Wedding Coordinator who runs each event, making sure couples don’t worry about timings, and feel looked after throughout their day. They also have a great online portal for couples to log into in the run up to their wedding, on here they can see all the details of their wedding. It is a great one-stop place for all key information so the couple, the Wedding Coordinators and the team running the day are in sync.
They have a list of recommended suppliers that the team can send out to couples to give them some inspiration in terms of florists, photographers, caterers, entertainment, accommodation and even dog sitters! However, these stunning pictures were taken by Charlotte Eve Photography who the venue just love!
Based on a weekday wedding in January. Includes accommodation.
