Award-Winning Upton Barn & Walled Garden

I adore this venue and I also adore the story behind it…

I came across Upton Barn & Walled Garden earlier this year and when I met Claire at an industry event, her warmth and passion for her venue was so clear to see. I won’t spoil the story, but keep reading and you’ll soon see why this fabulous new venue for Devon won at the recent regional Wedding Industry Awards!

Upton Barn & Walled Garden wedding venue wins Best South West Countryside Wedding Venue and Best Newcomer at The 2016 Wedding Industry Awards…

Claire and Richard Down of Upton Barn & Walled Garden scooped two awards at the regional heat of The 2016 Wedding Industry Awards: Best South West Countryside Wedding Venue and Best Newcomer! This fabulous husband & wife team will now be put through to the glitzy National Finals held in London.

Both awards pay homage to the continuous hard work Claire and Richard put into making their venue the best in the region. The creation of Upton Barn & Walled Garden came about when the couple decided they wanted to say their vows at home at Upton – the family’s 160 acre organic farm that rests at the foot of The Blackdown Hills. A huge renovation project ensued, breathing new life into the farm’s original buildings and walled garden, creating one of the county’s most idyllic, and now award-winning, wedding venues. The Walled Garden is beautifully landscaped and awash with colour and fragrance thanks to the abundance of lavender and it’s here that Claire and Richard married, becoming the first couple to walk the Walled Garden Aisle.

Claire and Richard officially launched the venue nearly a year ago for their first wedding in the lovingly restored 17^th Century Cider Barn. This enchanting space boasts romantic lighting, wood burning stove and underfloor heating and enjoys panoramic views of the stunning Devonshire countryside. It’s a stunning mix of old world charm and contemporary styling. Upton Lakes Boutique Luxury Lodges provide the perfect wedding accommodation with stunning lakeside views and sunken hot tubs.

Having recently been through the wedding planning process themselves; Claire and Richard know how important it is for couples to be given the creative free reign to make their celebration a true reflection of themselves. With this in mind, Upton Barn & Walled Garden offers couples a blank canvas, not charging corkage and allowing couples to bring in all of their own suppliers. The extensive grounds at Upton lend themselves perfectly to a variety of activities, from canapés and croquet to bucking broncos and gourmet burgers and everything in-between.

Upton Barn & Walled Garden is licensed for both civil ceremonies and partnerships, accommodating up to 120 guests. Inline with Upton’s ethos of giving their couples exactly what they want, the venues now offers intimate mid-week weddings for up to 30 people with gourmet food and drink included in the package.
