A ‘Home Tour’ of Dun Aluinn

I’m so excited to be introducing you to one of our newest additions today – say hello (and take a nosey around) Dun Aluinn.

This beautiful country house wedding venue is located in the Highland town of Aberfeldy, Scotland. The house is a blend of warmth and comfort with simple and honest touches. I think Elle Decoration perfectly sums it when they say; “Overlooked by mist-shrouded mountains, the Tay Valley is place of quiet beauty – and this home’s interiors matches the serenity of the scenery.”

I’ll hand you over to owners John and Susie…

Notes from Dun Aluinn

John & Susie say…

Dun Aluinn (Scots Gaelic for ‘Beautiful Hill Fort’) opened in October 2018, as a Design Led Exclusive Use venue. Situated on a private 5.5 acre estate overlooking the lovely Highland town of Aberfeldy. We are positioning Dun Aluinn at the high end of the market, with superb accommodation, fabulous food and outstanding service levels.

When choosing a wedding venue for your special day it is imperative you choose a location and venue which will look stunning in your photographs to remember in years to come. Dun Aluinn has featured in many leading UK and EU design publications – Elle Decoration in the UK, Cote Maison in France, NYarum in Sweden, Residence NL in the Netherlands and Living Corriere in Italy.

We love old and Listed buildings in Scotland, that’s our thing! My lovely wife, Susie, is an architect and interior designer and together we have converted some amazing old Listed buildings in Perthshire into beautiful homes, some of which we retain and rent them out as luxury holiday homes. Dun Aluinn is our flagship property and we have put our hearts and souls into it, to make it truly a world class venue. We hope that guests from all over the world will come and experience the unique atmosphere of Dun Aluinn and enjoy the wonderful mountains and lakes of Highland Perthshire on our door step.

Couples marrying at Dun Aluinn can enjoy the house and grounds over a minimum of 3 nights meaning there’s plenty of time to relax with friends and family either side of the celebration.

Wedding ceremonies can take place on the Terrace with stunning views. In Scotland, an authorised celebrant can conduct a marriage in any location, so at Dun Aluinn that could be on the terrace, in the marquee or out in the field surrounded by nature – the choice is yours, weather permitting of course!

Your drinks and canapés and Wedding Reception are all fully catered by Ballintaggart Farm – locally sourced seasonal produce, served with real passion, all tailored to guests’ requirements. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine and spirits for the wedding, or they can choose from the Dun Aluinn wine list which we have curated with our partners WoodWinters. All wines are paid for directly with WoodWinters (at retail prices) and delivery is arranged prior to guest arrival at Dun Aluinn. Dun Aluinn does not charge a corkage fee.

We provide a full Scottish Breakfast for all residents each morning! We also have a Butler service along with daily morning housekeeping and evening turndown service and to oversee the Wedding on the day acting as a Master of Ceremonies.

The 5.5 acre estate includes mature gardens around the house and the remainder of the land is given back to nature for re-wilding. We have a fire pit on the terrace and lovely outside seating and throws. There is a wood fired natural cedar Hot Tub nestled in the woods beside the house – its large enough for 10-12 guests – imported from Finland and a perfect spot in which to relax before the big day!

It’s a party house, so we have Bose surround sound music system in the lounge, connected wirelessly to Spotify for dancing in the evening! For younger guests, they may want to have their own space in the play den, here they will find a great mix of books and toys!

For larger weddings we can provide, through our approved supplier, a luxury tipi or elegant marquee catering up to 200 guests
