Laid-back Beach Vibes – Janie & Darren’s Wedding at Lusty Glaze Beach

J+D tied the knot on the Friday before the Early May Bank Holiday meaning they had a cool three days of downtime following the festivities. Clever, very clever! And I tell you what, it’s been a while since we’ve had a beach wedding gracing the pages of the Blog and what a wedding this is. Janie and Darren’s vision was laid-back beach with a bit of boho sparkle thrown in for good measure. Well folks, they only went and nailed it. This day is a shimmering, relaxed, beachy boho affair and we LOVE it.

If you’re already mourning the end of summer this could be the perfect tonic. Enjoy!

Janie says…

We chose the venue because we love the beach and love Cornwall. We wanted a laid-back wedding and really took to the relaxed vibe that Lusty Glaze offered, from the food to the style. The view was the final selling point for us alongside the fact we could get married ON the beach.

My fashion inspiration for the wedding was modern but chilled out, I guess slightly boho but sparkly! My dress was floaty and structured at the top, with a sequinned underskirt that had a split. I didn’t want formal shoes that I’d never wear again so had sparkly Kurt Geiger block heels that I LOVE. For my hair I didn’t want anything too structured so went for a half-up half-down with boho plaits. Makeup wise I wanted natural with a glow! We opted for light pinks and browns. When it came to the jewellery I kept it to a simple necklace, ring and matching earrings. I also had a very cute bracelet my bridesmaids gave me! In my hair we used flowers that matched the bouquets and was in keeping the beach theme.

For the bridesmaid dresses I wanted pastel colours, pretty and floaty. I loved the straps on the dresses we chose. For the groom and groomsmen, we really wanted to keep the chilled beach vibe going. We toyed with sand colours but ended up with a powder blue suit which seemed to fit perfectly with the sand and the sea.

The theme of the day was rustic, beachy, and pastel. All of our table decorations and table plan was handmade which was very fun. We used pebbles as name places which people loved!

Our florist was Blew Flowers. We loved her work and asked for pastel colours and wild seasonal flowers. We were very keen on having a flower hoop that was suspended from the ceiling which was very beautiful! Aside from this we had the bouquets, a garland for the wedding table (that was also used on the top table) and flowers in bottles and jars that lined the aisle and then went on to be used on the tables.

The cake was half naked with 3 layers: chocolate, red velvet and Victoria sponge. It was incredible! Our decorations were white flowers that matched the bouquets. The catering was all done by Lusty Glaze and it was perfect, especially the canapés!

I found our photographer, Albion Row Photography, on Instagram and loved that his pictures were of moments rather than being staged or posed. His work was really beautiful, natural and very much matched the laid-back vibe we wanted to capture every part of our day including raw emotion – this is something he does perfectly.

We also had a videographer which was such a good decision! The videos have created another memory that is so valuable to look back on!

Best part of the day

For us the best part of the day was early evening! We cut the cake, had our first dance and threw the bouquet with all the drama and laughs that followed. Everyone was very relaxed and starting to get up to dance, then we had the sunset which got everyone on the beach! A really beautiful moment.

From one couple to another…

Don’t worry about small decorative things, no one notices if they are handmade or expensive! We had lots of little things happening and things ‘to do’ which kept everyone very amused! For example, we had little beach games, a 360 photo booth, a quiz on the table at mealtime, and little slips to fill in next to the wedding book. I’d recommend this to prevent the wedding ‘lull’. Finally, move lots for your picture! Running, jumping, messing about makes for the best shots and natural memories!
