Set on the edge of a valley overlooking the rolling Catalan hills and with the foothills of the Pyrenees in the distance, the centuries-old ‘Mas Casamitjana’ enjoys a stunning location near the charming town of Moià in the province of Barcelona and boasts some of the prettiest sunsets you’ll ever see.
This Must Be The Place was created by British owners Jo and Duncan. They came to Barcelona with a dream and have used their experience in UK music festivals and events (Duncan – Bestival / Camp Bestival / Sunday Best) and film production (Jo – films inc ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’), plus a load of hard work, to turn it into a reality. They can’t wait to welcome you to their home.
The centuries-old ‘Mas Casamitjana’ has been lovingly refurbished in a Modern Rustic style. Their philosophy has been to respectfully restore what was old, and where they have added new features, they have done so with a more modern touch and lots of bespoke creativity.
Several event spaces are available in and around the house for you and your guests to enjoy, and they have all been designed to give you total freedom as to how and where you would like to experience individual elements of your day.
The centrepiece is their lovingly-restored conjoined barns, ‘Els Graners’, that open out onto the central courtyard ‘, El Barri’. The stairs and balcony lead you to ‘L’Era’, their large floral yard, and the small but perfectly formed ‘La Caseta’. Down a few steps from there, you’ll find a lush terrace garden, ‘La Feixa’. Adjacent to L’Era, you will also find ‘El Mirador’, a large grassy space with stunning views and higher still ‘El Paddock’, a ceremony and photo-call space with jaw-dropping 360° views.
Say ‘I do’, eat, drink and dance – in or out (or shake it all about) – you decide.
They have four spacious ensuite guest rooms, which occupy the entire ground floor and lower ground floor of the main house. They can hold up to 12 people and come with a self-catering breakfast room. For your other guests, they have a comprehensive local accommodation brochure.
Jo and Duncan are available from day one to advise and hold your hands whenever you need them. They have hosted many destination weddings for couples from the UK, Europe, the US, Australia, South America and more. They are not ‘wedding planners’, but they’ve got your back and will guide you through the process.
The Talking Heads song ‘This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’ inspired their name and philosophy. Songwriter David Byrne describes it as “a real honest kind of love song… I tried to write one that wasn’t corny, that didn’t sound stupid the way many do. I think I succeeded.”;
He did, and they intend to too.
They have five stunning exterior location options for the ceremony of your dreams, plus one equally stunning interior one (just in case). They have three optional ceremony structures that can provide a backdrop to frame the moment – their metal triangle and circle can be moved to wherever you would like them. While their antique iron gate is fixed permanently in an area known as El Paddock. All the external locations feature views to die for.
They also have multiple options, inside and out, for your ‘Aperitivo’ (aka Cocktail) and your Dinner (aka Reception).
For the reception, you can choose between a Sit-down Dinner, a Family-Style Dinner, or a Food Market Wedding. You can eat outside in L’Era or inside in Els Graners-both are fabulous options!
They have four spacious and stylishly decorated guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms, which occupy the entire ground and lower ground floors of the main house.
They can hold up to 12 people and have been named after their favourite jazz legends:
Louis Armstrong – King-size bed for two people. This one is usually the couples’ suite!
Ella Fitzgerald – King-size bed for two people.
Duke Ellington – Family suite comprising a private bedroom with twin beds for two people, plus an optional additional king-size sofa bed for two people in an adjoining room.
Nina Simone – Family suite comprising a private bedroom with a king-size bed for two people, plus a single bed and an optional additional single sofa bed in an adjoining room.
There is also a well-equipped self-catering kitchen for your use.
In conjunction with Magadins Vell, their excellent local farm shop and restaurant, they have created some scrumptious breakfast hampers as an optional extra.
Caravan Made are their exclusive caterer (and the only exclusive supplier). Caravan Made are Sílvia and Javi, a team of fantastic chefs and waiting staff. This Must Be The Place entered into this partnership with Caravan Made in 2023 and has never looked back. They were the natural choice of the vast majority of their couples, who were drawn to them by their fresh, modern and seasonal take on gastronomy, along with their understated style, impeccable service and strong ethics.
It is one of the best decisions This Must Be The Place has ever made, and they only ever receive super-positive feedback about the food, drinks and service.
They strive to be environmentally conscious and sustainable personally and within their business. They love to reuse and repurpose old materials (you’ll hopefully spot a lot of this when you come to look around), and they try to reduce their waste as much as possible. All their kitchens (including the guest one you will use) include recycling stations.
Since 2023 they have been exclusively working with one catering company, Caravan Made, partly because they share these values and have a local and seasonal approach to their gastronomy (they are also very nice people, and their food is delicious!).
The hand soap, moisturiser and shower gel that is complimentary in all the bathrooms is made by Yope using natural or low-processed ingredients. Their fields around the house are farmed with respect to the environment by local organic farmers Biobastona.
They ask you to do your bit, too. They only allow biodegradable or floral confetti and ask that you do not use wedding decorations, favours, and other single-use, non-recyclable, or non-biodegradable elements. They also strongly recommend asking your florist to use reusable or biodegradable floral bases and encourage your friends and family to take flowers away at the end of the night so they have a second lease of life.
This Must Be The Place (aka Mas Casamitjana) is about an hour from Barcelona and its airport, also from Girona and its ‘Costa Brava’ airport, and 30 minutes from the enchanting city of Vic.
Barcelona has a reputation as one of the trendiest cities in Europe, and the province of Catalunya is well known for its wonderful climate, beautiful natural light, fantastic food and wine.
Their nearest town (10 mins) is Moià, a charming historical market town with a fine tradition of producing outstanding food – much of which is organic. Moià is most alive on a Sunday morning for its market day, and people from all over the province come to sample its high-quality produce – and for a town of approx 6,000 inhabitants to sustain eight butcher/delis, three bakeries and a host of great restaurants, it must be doing something very right. Yum.
Oh, and it also has an excellent record shop!
I genuinely don’t know where to start to explain how magical This Must Be The Place is.
We found Jo, Duncan, Indy and their beautiful venue on Instagram – actually, you could say that it found us. It was love at first sight, and within a few days, we had all the information we needed, and our flights to come out and visit were booked.
Jo and Duncan were there every step of the way to advise, make recommendations, and suggest suppliers, but crucially for us, they never ever tried to push anything that we didn’t want. They just got us and understood what kind of day we were hoping for. No request was too strange or awkward for them (“Jo, how can we make it so that we have English hymns in a church in the Catalonian countryside?”).
We knew from the moment we met them that our day would be special. But every high expectation was surpassed. We had the most memorable day, surrounded by amazing food, drink, music, people, vibes and a setting that we (and our guests) will never forget. It has to be seen to be appreciated. This place and this team just scream love – we feel so blessed and grateful for the time we had, and we will do it forever.
Special mention to Caravan Made, your caterer, if you’re lucky enough to get married at This Must Be The Place. Silvia and the team will make you feel really special. They are accommodating and helpful and clearly love what they do – oh, and their food and drink are absolutely delicious, too!
We’re now personally campaigning to all of our loved ones to get married there so we can go back.
Thank you to Jo, Duncan, Indy and the wonderful network of suppliers involved.
Married August 2024
There are no words to describe how perfect our October wedding at TMBTP was!
We were in love with this venue from the moment we visited, and every moment after—from the planning to the day—made it a dream. Jo and Duncan have built such a special place (and, to top it all off, are the most wonderful, thoughtful people)! There are so many different spaces that each transition during the day, from ceremony to dinner to dancing, was a new “wow” moment for our guests, and we were able to really create a unique experience that felt like us. We were also quite a large wedding (175), which I was initially nervous about, but Jo and Duncan solved all my doubts immediately, and, in the end, there was plenty of room while still feeling like a warm, intimate space, which is really what I was looking for. We can’t say enough good things and will be reliving this day for a long time. Thank you so much, TMBTP!
Married October 2023
We had our wedding at This Must Be The Place last month, and it was amazing! When we saw the venue for the first time in person, we were blown away and knew this was the venue for us! Everything about it was exactly what we wanted and more. We met Jo while viewing the venue and she was amazing, she was so friendly and helpful, we felt in safe hands. We met Duncan when visiting for our technical visit and he was also incredible, so warm and lovely. The pair of them were so helpful and recommended some great vendors and accommodation for our guests.
Bringing guests abroad for your wedding you want it to be perfect as they have travelled all that way, and it really was. Everyone could see exactly why we chose to get married here and thought the venue was magical with the most gorgeous views. They felt like they were in a film. On the wedding day, we had Jo and Duncan on hand to help as well, which was so appreciated.
Their chosen caterer, Caravan Made, was exceptional, and so many guests told us how much they loved the food.
We would definitely recommend this venue, so much so that we are hoping one of our friends will get married here so we can go back as guests and enjoy it all again.
Thank you for everything!
Married September 2024
When my partner and I were looking for a wedding venue, we wanted a certain something we couldn’t quite put our finger on. As we trekked across Barcelona, hoping from venue to venue, we were buzzing at the thought of our big day. Just when we thought things couldn’t get any more exciting, we arrived at This Must Be The Place. Approach from a winding road off the beaten track, everything suddenly came into view and our jaws dropped.
The word wedding ‘venue’ simply doesn’t do it justice. The beautiful reclaimed barn with its timeless renovations provide a brilliant mix of old and new. Walking around the property we were taken aback by the incredible views, the attention to detail (beautiful mirror balls spotted in multiple locations) and the big spaces giving multiple options on layouts. We opted for an outside ceremony and dinner, moving inside the converted barn for dancing afterwards. It made for the perfect transition as the day progressed. Having family stay on site worked perfectly too. Each bedroom has kept its original features whilst bringing a premium look and feel.
Now this is all well and good, but there is one thing that truly made it so special… Jo and Duncan. They have poured their hearts and souls into making the property what it is today. Their passion, creativity and genuine love for our big day made all the difference. As a gay couple, we can sometimes be reserved in opening up, but Jo and Duncan made us completely at ease for the same-sex ceremony and even entertained our special guest (Drag Queen A’Whora!) whilst friends and family gathered for our big finale. We knew straight away that we had to get married here. We left our first viewing saying to ourselves, ‘this must be it, this must be the one… This Must Be The Place!’

We cannot thank you enough for making our day so perfect. You have been so accommodating from start to finish, you have offered advice when needed and nothing was too much trouble. You ensured are day ran so smoothly and you were so helpful with all the small details right up to the day before which helped put us at ease.
We both had a magical experience not just because This Must Be The Place is a stunning venue but also how lovely and personal you make it – great people who truly care about making your day so special.
We will remember this day forever. Thank you for giving us our fairytale wedding.
Married September 2023
We had our wedding at This Must be the Place this Saturday just gone and we honestly couldn’t have wished for anything more. The most incredible team – Jo, Duncan and of course Indy, the brilliant recommendations of “suppliers” who became friends, the most incredible views and they even arranged the weather. What wedding dreams are made of. We can’t thank you enough.. see you in a few years for an anniversary party!
Wow! Our wedding day was better than we could have imagined. This Must Be the Place truly is the most perfect venue. Hidden away down a winding, bumpy road, we were a bit unsure, until the road opened and we saw the venue – simply beautiful! Full of rustic charm with a touch of rock glam, it really stood out amongst everything else we’d seen, and we knew it truly was ‘the place’ for us.
We didn’t want a traditional wedding day, and we were encouraged to put whatever personalised touches we wanted.
Jo and Duncan, the owners, are genuine people who clearly love what they do. Every part of our day was seamlessly put together. Apart from turning up, we didn’t need to do a thing! Jo and Duncan have an excellent contact list of suppliers, and we could not have faulted any of them! Caravan Made, their exclusive caterers, are truly something special – the food, drinks and materials were all high quality.
Thank you, Jo and Duncan, for enabling us to have a truly memorable day! It is something we are still reliving, and we would do it again in a heartbeat!
Married August 2023
This Must Be The Place is the wedding venue of dreams, and Duncan and Jo are hosts sent from heaven! The loveliest family who have put their heart and soul into creating a perfect venue. They were so incredibly helpful in the lead-up to the big day and on hand to help us with anything on the day itself. We’re so thankful, you made our day utter perfection. Thank you!
Married July 2023
Everything was just wow! The venue is truly beautiful, it’s been renovated perfectly but has kept its authentic feel while having a nice touch of modern. The views were mind-blowing, and we were lucky to have the most perfect sunset during our party. This will forever stay as one of our best memories.
But the best part must be the owners, Jo, Duncan, and their daughter, Indy. They were like wedding superheroes! Right from the get-go, they made us feel like family. The communication was on point, and they were always there to lend a hand or share their expert advice. They put us in contact with the best providers, we couldn’t have asked for better! When the big day arrived, Jo and Duncan were there to help! I really felt them going above and beyond with their support. They were working behind the scenes, making sure everything was flawless. Plus, they were like our personal cheerleaders, keeping us cool and calm throughout the whole thing.
The catering by Caravan Made (their exclusive provider) was out of this world! Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the food and drinks.
But what really touched our hearts was Jo’s open arms and support for our LGBT wedding. It meant the world to us that she embraced our love and made us feel special on our big day. Thanks for spreading the love and being an ally!
So, if you’re on the hunt for a place to say “I do”, this is definitely the place to be! We’re forever grateful to Jo, Duncan and Indy for giving us the wedding of our dreams.
Married June 2023
Just held our wedding at this incredible venue. It was completely perfect, and I couldn’t recommend it more. From start to finish, Jo and Duncan, who own the venue, couldn’t have been more helpful. They have poured so much love and attention into the venue with so many beautiful thoughtful personal touches everywhere you look. They were available from day 1 to answer every question we had, and they had a list of trusted suppliers which were in keeping with the style and quality of the venue. We actually booked the venue before visiting it and when we finally got to visit it we were even more blown away by the beauty of the place. The whole lead-up to the wedding was smooth and seamless, and Jo and Duncan went out of their way to help us think through every step of the day and even a plan B if the weather wasn’t good. Over the wedding weekend, Jo and Duncan made us feel so at home and feel so relaxed on the day, knowing everything was on hand. I’m really sad the weekend is over, it was for me the happiest day of my life, and so much of that was due to the experience Jo and Duncan and their suppliers created for us. Thank you again! I hope one day we can return for another party!
Married August 2023
This Must Be The Place has our hearts, forever.
We had the most gorgeous, intimate and truly one of a kind wedding day at TMBTP in September 2023. We booked in our date after a WhatsApp video call (that was all the convincing we needed!). Jo immediately made us feel cared for from the very first email and calls.
I cannot even put into words how beautiful every part of the venue is. TMBTP just has some kind of magic to it – it’s so breathtakingly beautiful and yet feels like home and like a bit of you. Each part of the venue, whether that be the barns, the outdoor spaces, the living areas, all have so much personality about them.
We decided to ditch the idea of a traditional UK wedding and opted for a smaller celebration at TMBTP – Jo and Duncan, from day one, made it clear this was our day to have however we wanted. We loved that we were able to hold a day here that felt truly like us, thinking through for ourselves how we wanted it to feel instead of being told what to do. I could not speak more highly of Jo and Duncan – so much more than just the owners of the venue, but an absolute support system in the build-up to the day and the days we spent in Moia. They were so kind to us and our families during our families during our stay, and their support meant we had such a seamless day.
We received so many compliments about our special day, particularly on the sensational food from caravan made, naturally how beautiful the venue is, and how relaxed everything felt. It was everything we had imagined, actually even better!
(also, a moment for the curvy table of dreams – an absolute showstopper under that gorgeous barn arch. I think about that table all the time!)
As cliche as it is, we had the best day of our lives here. The venue speaks for itself and you can’t help but fall in love with it, and Jo and Duncan were just the most fantastic people to share our day with.
Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous home with us. We will remain your biggest fans and hope to return one day for more fun.
Married September 2023
We recently had our wedding at This Must Be the Place and cannot recommend it enough as a venue. From our first call with Duncan, we instantly felt comfortable taking the risk and booking a venue we had never seen in person. Jo and Duncan provided tons of resources about the area and helped introduce us to our planner who was incredible (Merixel at The Gathering). When we did our on-site visit four months before the wedding, it confirmed our choice. The venue is absolutely stunning and so well set up for weddings of all different sizes (we were around 80). On the day of our wedding, there were thunderstorms all morning, and Jo and Duncan were in the mix, making sure that we still had the most amazing, perfect day.
The Caravan Made team is immensely talented and organized. We had multiple guests tell us how it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding and also how nice the staff was. We had one guest with severe allergies, and they made a point to introduce themselves to her and ensure that she had food all night that she was able to eat. This Must be the Place is truly magical, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Spanish experience in the Catalonian countryside.
Married October 2024
After spending a long time searching for wedding venues across Europe, we stumbled onto This Must Be the Place, and we knew instantly that we had found a gem. We’re so glad we found TMBTP, as we had the most amazing wedding here. Firstly, to Jo and Duncan, your support, guidance and genuine care you show for all of your guests and couples is simply phenomenal, and we knew right from the beginning we were in really safe hands. Planning an international wedding from the other side of the world is daunting, but you made the process seamless, stress-free and fun! We didn’t have an opportunity to actually see the venue until the day before our wedding, and it exceeded any expectations we could ever have imagined. The place is absolutely stunning and our guests consistently said throughout the day/night it was the most beautiful wedding venue they’d been to.
The food from Caravan Made was delicious. The recommended vendors were incredible and professional. We can’t speak highly enough of the crew of people that made the day possible.
We couldn’t be happier with our wedding day and want to extend our sincerest thanks to Jo and Duncan. We can’t wait to come back and visit one day soon. Lots of love!
Married October 2024
We booked This Must Be The Place to celebrate our wedding on 3rd June 2022, after finding the venue online and speaking with Jo and Duncan, the owners. We got along straight away and knew this was where we wanted to marry.
We originally planned for our wedding to be in 2021, however due to the pandemic we pushed back by a year to 2022. During this stressful time Jo and Duncan were brilliant, and were fully supportive of our change of plans no questions asked.
When we went to visit, Jo and Duncan were on hand to meet with us and our families, and allowed us to take as long as we needed to look around the venue.
Throughout they also helped us manage our suppliers, and information for our guests such as where to eat, stay and other things to do in the area which was really helpful.
Our day went better than we could ever have imagined, we are so glad we found the venue and went ahead despite us living in the UK!
Thank you for being so accommodating and for making our day so special. We hope to be able to visit again some day, as the house and the area are beautiful!
Married June 2022
Amazing venue. We had high expectations for our wedding day and they were exceeded in every way. The spectacular location is made even better by Duncan and Jo, who are extremely helpful and highly professional and worked seamlessly with all the other suppliers. We can’t speak highly enough of This Must Be The Place!
Married September 2023
I don’t think anything I could write would ever truly explain how magical This Must Be The Place is. Everything about the venue is beautiful and our wedding day was absolutely perfect. Even the rain half way through our ceremony didn’t spoil anything because plan B was just as lovely.
Jo and Duncan are both so lovely and helpful before and during the day. We couldn’t have done it without them. We didn’t have a wedding planner but they helped us so much that it was still stress free. They all just felt like part of the family on the day!
I wish we could do it all over again.
Married May 2024
Wow! We booked This Must Be the Place in December 2022 after a video chat with Jo and Duncan and knowing straight away that this was the venue for us – we didn’t even bother looking at any others afterwards! There was never a doubt in our minds that seeing it in person would live up to the photos and videos, and that was all confirmed in Feb 2024 on our technical visit when I cried before I even walked through those gorgeous gates!
We were so relaxed from the second we checked in the Friday before our wedding, and Jo, Duncan and the lovely Indy made us and our families feel so at home. None of us wanted to leave (including our niece, who asked if she could have her birthday party there next year).
Our entire day was perfect from start to finish, and we are so grateful to have found the most perfect venue. We’re already trying to convince every engaged couple we know to get married here just so we can come back as guests!
If you’re thinking about booking – just do it! You won’t regret it.
Married May 2024
Where to start? This place, the people, the view are just everything!
My Wife and I got married here last month and it was more than we ever imagined our day to be!
We came across This Must Be The Place when we decided to do a destination Wedding following our engagement in 2023. We had family and friends flying in from the USA and Australia and wanted somewhere that could bring us all together linking in with mountains and nature. It did all of that and more for us.
When we visited in April 2024, we were struggling with what felt like everything wedding-related, but as soon as we met Jo and Duncan, it all began to slip into place following their advice and who they recommended. We instantly clicked with them and trusted them implicitly.
When we checked in the night before, the rooms were gorgeous, and the local hamper we requested through them was delicious, and it just got better from there! On our day, they were a constant source of calm and always a smile for reassurance if we needed it. Duncan even lent my Dad his Panama hat, so he was shaded as he walked me down the aisle.
Our family and friends raved about the venue and the different areas it offered and that we chose to use. Some said it was the best wedding they had ever been to!
Five stars aren’t enough for this awesome venue and family. Eliza and I will be forever grateful!
Thank you, Jo, Duncan and Indy!
Married October 2024
This absolutely is the place for you!
When we came across TMBTP we knew instantly that this was where we were going to get married. Not only is the venue, location and views completely out of this world, but Jo, Duncan and Indy are just incredible people! Planning a wedding abroad would have been a very different experience without them! They are easy going, very professional, kind, supportive and have a wealth of experience. They couldn’t have helped us enough, which made the planning experience far less stressful than we had anticipated! Jo and Duncan supported us with recommendations and with the organisation of our vendors, and were super helpful with the abundance of questions we fired their way! They encouraged us to use the spaces within the venue in whatever way we wished, and helped us to create the vision for our wedding day that we had imagined! We had the most amazing feedback from our guests, with some wanting to plan their own weddings at TMBTP in the future! We honestly cannot recommend them enough!!
Thank you Jo, Duncan and Indy for welcoming us into your home, and helping us to create the most incredible memories that we will cherish forever x
Married September 2022
Where do we start? After visiting what feels like every venue in Barcelona we nearly gave up until somebody recommended TMBTP. We flew back over to visit Jo and Duncan and we were reduced to tears – it is the perfect venue!
We wanted something rustic with lots of character and it is just that. The venue is still modern inside and doesn’t feel dark and stuffy, there’s so many cool features around the venue it’s so unique. You can really make the venue your own but at the same time it’s so beautiful you really can just let the views and the venue speak for itself.
The views are absolutely breathtaking and the perfect backdrop for a ceremony, compete uninterrupted vistas over the Catalan countryside surrounded by wild flowers and the sunset are unforgettable.
Jo and Duncan and Indy also made the day absolutely seamless for us, they are so hands on and are happy to make recommendations and provide you with their honest opinions which we really needed as I can be very indecisive at times! They make the venue and we really felt like we had our friends there on the day and they couldn’t have been any better.
The different areas of the hotel are perfect so you can move around during the day for a change of scene and atmosphere.
I work in luxury travel and I have stayed at some of the best hotels in Europe but I would choose a week here over anywhere! I only wish we could do it all again.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, we had the most perfect wedding day.
We have multiple event spaces at This Must Be The Place and you are free to individually tailor their use for each element of your day. Generally, your wedding day can be broken down into four elements - ceremony, aperitif, dinner and dancing - and you can decide what you want to do where.
- Els Graners - our barns are suitable for dining and dancing (and the ceremony and aperitif on wet days).
- El Barri-our central courtyard is a large outdoor terrace next to our barns. It is suitable for welcome drinks, aperitifs, ceremonies, and as a spillout area from activities in the barns (like late-night dancing).
- L'Era - our large garden yard is good for everything - particularly ceremonies, aperitifs and dining.
- La Caseta-our 'little house'-is right next to L'Era and is suitable as a bar and shady chill-out area during the aperitif, a children's creche, or even a dancing area (for smaller weddings).
- La Feixa - our lawned garden is suitable for welcome drinks, ceremonies, aperitifs and stunning views.
- El Mirador-Our rustic grassy area is perfect for stunning views, welcome drinks, ceremonies, and a large flat space for a big marquee or some giant tipis.
- El Paddock-This large elevated area offers the ultimate 360° views and is suitable for ceremonies and photo calls.
But please feel free to be creative and use these areas in new ways!
We work exclusively with one caterer-Caravan Made. We decided to do this for many positive reasons-not only did more than half of our couples naturally choose Caravan Made anyway, but we share similar values and ethics and work very well together. We also wanted to expand and improve on what we could offer to our couples while doing so more sustainably. Most importantly, their food is delicious, and their service is exceptional! All other suppliers are optional.
Yes - there are lots of great options. Please ask us for our Local Accommodation document.
Yes definitely. We only hold one wedding/event at a time. We, the owners, live on the first and second floors of the main house - so we will be here too, helping out wherever we can.
