The Setting
Steeped in history, Dick Whittington (1352) was born there, Pauntley Court has a unique charm and romanticism, all wrapped up in the unmistakable ease and friendly atmosphere of the most welcoming of family homes that can be exclusively yours for a whole weekend.
Never a truer word was spoken when John Masefield (Poet Laureate) described Pauntley Court: “…it lies in a place of great beauty and strangeness…”
The gardens are so captivatingly magical that you might imagine bumping into Alice and the White Rabbit as you stroll between the yew hedging and arched horn beams. Seclusion, privacy and exclusivity exude from every corner of this unique gem, nestling quietly in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside. If you daydream around there, you might be forgiven for thinking you have re-awoken in Italy or France.
This enchanting rural estate is within striking distance of the Cotswolds with easy, quick access from the M50, 2.5 hours from London, half an hour from Cheltenham and an hour from Birmingham and Bristol.
The Vibe
Grand in nature but with an intimate and distinctly friendly atmosphere, this family-owned house is colourful, warm, romantic and wonderfully quirky. Pauntley Court nestles in its own little fold of Gloucestershire countryside on the edge of The Cotswolds, with only the 16th-century Dovecote and the Norman church as its neighbours. Once there, they want you to completely relax and make this private and tranquil place your very own home for the weekend. There are 20 acres of grounds to enjoy with a croquet lawn, pétanque court, tennis court, a lake and woodland – it makes a perfect private retreat for your 3-day wedding.
When you arrive on the Friday from midday, their wonderful housekeeper will greet you, show you and your guests, and tell you everything you may wish to know about the house and gardens ready for your stay. Start to prepare for a beautiful pre-wedding day gathering either in the walled garden on the terrace or in the Flower Room. Have a private chef cook and use the Large Egg Oven and Kadai fire pit to create a Friday night feast, or the pizza man and his horse box, who will arrive and make fresh pizzas for everyone.
On your wedding day, your wedding coordinator will be there throughout to look after you. Choose from one of the six magical garden spaces for an outdoor ceremony or have a cosy indoor ceremony in The Ballroom or The Panelled room. If you would like a church ceremony, the beautiful Norman church is just next door, a short stroll away.
Afterwards, have your drinks and canapés in the gardens and enjoy photographs amongst the yew hedges and clipped box hedges before dining under the hornbeams or the stretch tent or, when the weather is inclement, in the elegant ballroom.
Dance the night away in The Ballroom, enjoy cocktails from the bespoke bar in The Panelled room and wander through the festoon-lit garden rooms before retiring to your luxurious and comfortable couple’s private wing of the main house.
Wake up on Sunday, looking out at far-reaching countryside views, before joining your close family and friends for a brunch or celebratory gathering. Chat and laugh about the wedding day before heading off in the late afternoon.
The Pauntley Team aims to make everything about your weekend very special and personal. With only a limited number of weddings each year, they shake off the feel of the ‘wedding factory’ – this is a ‘one of a kind’ venue for you to create an extraordinary and bespoke wedding weekend with your family and friends.
