Setting
There is an undeniable magic in the history and atmosphere of Pauntley Court. Birthplace of Dick Whittington (1352) and once described by Poet Laureate John Masefield as “…a place of great beauty and strangeness,” it offers a unique blend of charm and romanticism.
This family home, painted in a striking pinkish-terracotta hue, evokes memories of Italian or French landscapes and provides an intimate yet grand location for a wedding weekend. Privacy, seclusion, and exclusivity are key features of this Gloucestershire gem, where the countryside surrounds guests in tranquil beauty.
Ceremony
Pauntley Court provides a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to suit all wedding styles and sizes. The Norman church next door offers a beautiful setting for a traditional service, with the sound of church bells adding to the occasion.
For civil ceremonies, the main house offers two intimate licensed spaces:
Outdoor options include six garden settings, each with a distinctive charm:
Reception
From drinks and canapés in the formal garden rooms to dancing in the Ballroom, Pauntley Court caters to every part of your wedding day. Begin with cocktails in the Sunken Gardens, where parasols and croquet add a playful touch, accompanied by a string quartet or jazz duo.
For dining, the hornbeam arches create a romantic setting with views of the Cornmill and lake. Should the weather change, the large stretch tent offers a sheltered alternative. As the evening progresses, guests can move indoors to the Panelled Room bar and the Ballroom, which provides a cosy space for music and dancing.
Accommodation
Up to 24 guests can stay on-site, with ten beautifully designed bedrooms and nine modern bathrooms available. The couple enjoys an additional night in the private Elinor Fettiplace wing, beginning their experience on Thursday evening. Family and friends join from Friday midday for a relaxing weekend, staying until Sunday at 4pm.
Every bedroom is thoughtfully styled with luxurious linens, soft towels, and fresh flowers from the garden. The Shepherd’s Hut, The Blissful Bower, is an ideal space for treatments or massages during the stay.
Rachel, the housekeeper, welcomes guests and ensures everyone feels at home. Amenities include a tennis court, pétanque court, and scenic walking paths.
