Located close to the Suffolk / Essex border, the Barns are part of an ancient settlement at the end of a mile-long no through road and yet are easily accessible from the popular villages and market towns of Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds & Long Melford.
Together with the Church of St Peter & St Paul, Alpheton (and Alpheton Hall), they sit on approximately—25 acres of woodland and meadows surrounded by organic farmland, often with sheep grazing nearby.
Hold your ceremony in their beamed West Barn with a vintage tin roof and stone floor or the new Woodland Ceremony Glade before walking through to the Confetti Garden (Arboretum) with heart-shaped mown grass centre and tree trunk love seat all surrounded by wildflowers.
Enjoy your drinks reception in the Stackyard Wedding Garden with a brick terrace, marble-topped tables and oak pergola before making your way into the impressive beamed South Barn (10th-century origins), which offers all the space you need for your wedding breakfast, bar, band, DJ or other entertainment. Kitchens (for caterers and bar), smart WCs and a dedicated children’s room are all included.
Evening food can be enjoyed in the Barn courtyard, which has fairy-light-lit covered cart lodge seating and an outdoor kitchen with a woodfired pizza oven—the perfect place to cool off and unwind with friends and family.
Family run, flexible and friendly with an emphasis on personal rather than package, the team at Alpheton Hall Barns love nothing more than helping you create an amazing, beautiful and fun wedding, which is all about celebrating the two of you.
We are licensed for 250 guests, but we suggest discussing your overall plans (for example, your entertainment plans) before confirming numbers. The layout of the Barns (twin aisles and bays) provides great flexibility so that we are equally suitable for smaller weddings, typically from 50.
Yes, you are welcome to provide your drink and arrange for your caterer to serve it. Alternatively, we can recommend local Bar services, or you can choose your own provider. Our only requirement is to charge no more than local pub prices.
We do not have onsite accommodation, although camping is an option in the warmer months. The nearby picturesque towns and villages of Sudbury, Lavenham, Long Melford, and Bury St Edmunds offer a wide range of accommodations to suit all pockets, so why not encourage your family and guests to enjoy a few days exploring the area? Several options are listed on our website.
We provide all tables (choice of rectangular or round), Chiavari chairs (limewash) and children's high chairs. In the wedding garden, you will also use garden seating and marble-topped garden tables.
We have our own PA and sound system and full colour-changing LED lighting. We recommend that any band or DJ bring their own systems, but you can put your playlist through ours. The roof space in the South Barn is strung with thousands of fairy lights, and there are more outside along the front of the Barn and in the Pizza Courtyard so that nighttime is magical!
We love a winter wedding (particularly New Year's Eve). The Barns are double-skinned with a layer of cosy sheep's wool insulation and a very efficient heating system. One of the main heating pipes runs through the pizza courtyard seating, so you can sit outside and eat pizza even on a chilly evening (add cushions and throws for extra cosiness). Should it snow, we have a tractor and can pull you back to the village if required!
