A ‘Home Tour’ of The Old Stables at Bridwell

by Emma Hla
Images by Venetia Norrington.

Bridwell is a location of great beauty and prestige, with refreshing flexibility. This impressive house has been hidden from public gaze for 240 years but there’s an exciting new chapter in the life of the estate!

The much loved family home of Lord Ivar Mountbatten is available for exclusive use and private hire – it’s your very own Country House Estate. As well as the Georgian house, there’s also the very pretty Orangery, a 19th Century Chapel, gorgeous gardens and acres of parkland.

The newest addition is the brand new accommodation housed in The Old Stables and we’re lucky enough to be taking a little tour around these super stylish rooms. So if you’re looking for a wedding venue that has enough (beautiful) accommodation for you and your guests then look no further!

Here’s Vicky with a little more…

The Old Stables Bedrooms

Vicky:

Standing tall, beautifully framing the intimate courtyard of the main house, you will find the Old Stables – the latest phase of Bridwells venue facility developments completed in July 2016 – creating 10 new stylish and comfortable bedrooms as an addition, or alternative, to the House Bedrooms.

The historic leaded windows, guilded clock tower, striking archways, ornamental ironworks and original stable doors remain, preserving the charm, character and history that lay before, whilst gently extending the relaxed grandeur of the house.

Once inside, this smart new facility carries it’s own uniquely formed identity – with bold colours on the walls, carried through into the soft furnishings, teamed with eclectic artworks, modern glass doors, rain showers and walls clad in reclaimed timbers from Cornish barns. A heady but remarkably comfortable mix of the old and the new, all designed by Lord Ivar himself.

Garden and Park Suites

The Old Stables bedrooms are naturally divided in two by the fabric of the original building, with each collection of rooms named according to their position – The Park Suite and The Garden Suite. Like the house, the Old Stables elevated position ensures the rooms afford unspoiled and ever changing views of Bridwell’s delightful gardens and grounds season by season.

Each Suite has a collection of 4 brand new bedrooms and bathrooms, approached via an oak clad staircase, leading to a hallway with a homely dresser stocked with teas and coffee for guests.

Mineral water, fine linens, luxurious toiletries are provided throughout, mirroring the comforts of the main house.

Lots of love…
