A ‘Home Tour’ of The Wood Norton

by Emma Hla
Images by Jade Osborne Photography.

Recently I got chatting with a Bride-to-be who had found and booked her wedding venue after spotting it on these very pages. When asked what it was that made her know that particular venue was the one, she said there was a warmth to the write-up and she trusted our opinion.

This feedback is really rather special to me and it’s so important that I’m able to talk to you about the venues we showcase with passion and first-hand experience. Whilst I’ve not quite managed to skip around our entire collection (we cover the tip of Scotland all the way to the shores of Thailand!) I have visited a fair few of our handpicked wedding venues.

The Wood Norton was one of my most recent discoveries and I was lucky enough to be their guest one blustery weekend in October. Today I’m going to tell you all about my stay and take you on a little tour thanks to the wonderful Jade Osborne Photography.

Notes from The Wood Norton

Coco:

The Wood Norton is located in the stunning Worcestershire countryside, a fairly straight-forward journey from our home by the sea in Brighton. This time we had planned to leave our little pup at home and indulge in a super romantic trip for two!

Now folks, I’m not gonna lie, before we even left our house romance was far from my mind! That week I’d managed to catch the cold of all colds! I’m always ill around this time of year and I was a little bit miffed the seasonal bug had decided to make it’s appearance the week I wanted to run off with my boy!

So bags packed (with various cold and flu remedies alongside my PJ’s!) we set off, albeit slightly miserable. The weather was empathising all the way. However, the remedy for a cold it turns out, is turning into the driveway of The Wood Norton.

My tummy instantly flipped as I caught sight of the grand county house and it’s stunning garden. I practically skipped out of the car leaving Mark to grab the bags and park the car. I was met with smiles and a very warm welcome by the reception team and we were immediately ushered to our suite.

Now I’ve stayed in some rather lovely places, but we were quite taken aback by the grandness of this particular room – imagine oak panelled walls, fleur-de-lys crests, luxurious swathes of fabric on every window, a bed that looked so soft I wanted to dive straight in and the most incredible sweeping views of the lawn. The room was comfortable and elegant, quite traditional but had everything you would need including a fabulous bathroom with roll top bath!

Shortly after arriving I fancied a tour of the whole property so I was guided around the house & grounds by their Deputy Manager. His enthusiasm and love for the house shone through and I was expertly transported into the history of The Wood Norton.

Weddings are a well-established tradition here, reaching back to 1907 when the mansion was used for a Royal wedding! In fact, old photographs of the wedding line the corridors adding a sense of grandeur. If I was to imagine marrying at this glamorous location, I’d want to secure exclusivity of the entire venue. With 50 bedrooms onsite and a capacity for up to 250 in their contemporary Orangery, you could create a luxe haven for you and your guests. I was totally choosing wedding décor in my head as I walked through the house.

After the tour, I couldn’t resist it any longer… I jumped into bed and had a little snooze. I was ill after all! Feeling refreshed, our evening consisted of cocktails, wine and exquisite food. It’s quite the ‘fine dining’ experience at The Wood Norton and their menus offer seasonal local produce presented in a truly creative manner. Sitting at the best table in the house we indulged on a 5-course menu including Pigeon, Scallops, Beef Fillet and a desert called Tastes of Chocolate that I could have happily eaten again, and again, and again.

Whilst I wouldn’t necessarily think of myself as a traditionalist, I did fall under the spell of this particular venue.

There are so many wonderful little spots including the rose garden, the little Mews cottages for your guests, the swing for two and of course the view from the Bridal Suite.

The Sunday morning I woke up super early so that I could catch the mist hanging in the valley, here I sat and watched the autumnal sun rise and a brilliant blue sky make an appearance, all of this whilst sipping on my coffee listening to my boy soundly snoozing in our big snuggly bed. It was utter bliss and folks, if you’ve taken a peek at The Wood Norton I urge you to visit for yourselves and start to paint your own day on this rather fabulous canvas.

Thank you so much to the team at The Wood Norton for being perfect hosts, we’ll certainly be back…

* The Wood Norton is part of the Coco Wedding Venues directory, however we handpick each venue to be showcased and we only feature venues we adore. Coco was not paid to write this feature, but I was gifted an overnight stay & dinner at The Wood Norton.

If you would like to find out a bit more about this Worcestershire wedding venue (the nitty gritty so to speak!) then take a look at their listing right here.

Alternatively you can contact the weddings team directly on 01386 765 611 or by emailing weddings@thewoodnorton.com.

Lots of love…
