About

Setting

Huntsham Court is an exclusive-use Devon wedding venue near Exmoor and the Somerset border. Often described as a hidden gem, the venue bursts with period charm and relaxed grandeur.

Nestled in rolling countryside and set within five acres of wonderful Victorian gardens, the venue and its surroundings make for the perfect backdrop for those all-important photos. Guests can enjoy discovering the croquet lawn, hidden garden, tennis court, and plenty of relaxing spots to take in the scenery.

Ceremony

The venue has numerous spots for a ceremony both indoors and out, so there is always an option to suit everyone’s taste and style.

The Great Hall is the most popular indoor venue. It has plenty of space to comfortably seat 100 guests or 130 with a mix of seating and standing.

The grand fireplace makes an amazing backdrop for couples saying ‘I do’, especially when the mantle is decorated with a floral display.

The dark wood, glittering crystal chandelier, marble columns, and intricate parquet floor add to the grandeur of this ceremony room.

The most popular traditional outdoor ceremony space is The Dovecote. This Victorian-style structure with trailing Wisteria is picture-perfect. With its own ceremony seating already in place, it is an easy spot to style and set up. The venue’s backdrop adds to the wow factor.

Another popular outdoor space, but a little less traditional, is the Hidden Garden Tipi (in place from April to September). With its Boho vibe, nature-based style (filled with wildflowers), and neutral tones, it’s a beautiful location to bring all your family and guests together.

Reception

If you have tied the knot at one of the idyllic outdoor spots within the grounds, it feels natural to gravitate toward the top lawn and croquet lawn to enjoy canapes and drinks being passed around by your chosen caterers. This is particularly popular with weddings between April and September.

For a Winter wedding, or if the weather has alternative plans, the beautiful Great Hall is the perfect location to bring guests together without feeling cramped. There is plenty of room for mingling and group shots. Plus, you are welcome to spill over into the Bar Snug (particularly helpful if you plan to run a bar during this time) and into the Diamond room full of plump, inviting sofas for those who would like to sit back and take it all in.

Accommodation

The venue has 42 bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to 100 guests.

The bedrooms are individually designed and have all the grandeur of a historic house. You’ll find four poster beds, canopy beds, exposed beams, antique bathtubs, modern showers, chandeliers and plenty of colourful textiles throughout the rooms.

The vast majority of bedrooms are ensuite (some of the bathrooms are as enormous as the bedrooms!) With plenty of hot water, your guests can enjoy a soak or long shower before the big day.

Many of the bedrooms offer flexible sleeping arrangements with twin or double rooms, family suites, and easy-to-access ground-floor suites. Externally, the Garden Wing, Little Lodge, and Gate House Lodge offer further space, perfect for groups of family and friends.

Food & Drink

The venue doesn’t offer packages. Its guiding principle is ‘your stay, your way’. Encouraging guests to embrace their own style and personal tastes is at the heart of the venue, so you have full freedom to select the caterers to suit your event and budget.

For couples that want a guiding hand, the venue has a recommended suppliers list to help with inspiration.

As well as being package-free, they are corkage-free! The bar is hired empty, so you can bring as much or as little as you like with you.

Many couples relish this opportunity, working with local suppliers to source wines for the meal, beers, spirits, etc. Again, helpful solutions are on hand for couples that find this a little too daunting, including suppliers who will take care of the bar for you.

Sustainability

The venue tries to be responsible regarding sustainability, the environment, and the promotion of localism.

All the water comes from their private well, which pumps from the water table under the house. They then purify and filter it so every tap in the house pours top-quality mineral water with no chemical additions, whether for your bath or drinking water. In addition to great-quality water, it also cuts down on single-use plastic water bottles.

On a mission to cut down on plastic, single-use toiletries are no longer on offer, favouring refillable pumps for the bedrooms and bathrooms. As well as opting for refillable pumps, the product is also an eco brand.

Bees are in danger and in decline across the UK, so there are numerous hives in Huntsham tucked away so they don’t interfere with events. The bee colonies pollinate locally farmed crops and all their garden flowers, giving better cross-pollination and healthier, more beautiful gardens. They also make amazing honey!

With large fireplaces, the venue gets through a lot of logs in winter. The local Tree Office of Mid Devon council maintain the grounds, recycling felled trees by using them for garden features and logs and planting new specimen trees and hedges in the grounds that are both decorative and environmentally appropriate. So far, Huntsham Court has planted over 2000+ hedging shrubs to improve our gardens.

Getting There

Huntsham Court is easy to reach, just 15 minutes from Tiverton Parkway station (two hours to London) and 15 minutes away from Junction 27 of the M5. Local towns and cities include Tiverton, Taunton, and Exeter. The two nearest airports are Bristol and Newquay. Helicopters can also land on site (weather permitting), and there is a private airstrip three miles away where we can arrange landing and parking if needed.
