Bury Manor Barn stands as one of Sussex’s most distinguished wedding venues, situated at the end of a tranquil village lane by the River Arun, surrounded by panoramic views of the valley. This magnificent Tudor barn is located in the rural village of Bury, near Pulborough, at the heart of the South Downs National Park. The historic grounds of Dorset House School-one of the country’s oldest preparatory schools-are home to this unforgettable setting, steeped in rich history, with records tracing back to the Domesday Book. Once a monastic structure, it evolved into a traditional manor and later became an Edwardian retreat for London’s elite. This venue’s uniqueness, history, and character make it truly special.
Bury Manor Barn offers an unforgettable atmosphere for Church, Civil, or Humanist ceremonies, allowing couples to choose a setting that best reflects their personal vision. In warmer months, outdoor ceremonies can be held in the beautiful amphitheatre, surrounded by views of the river, Amberley Castle, and the South Downs.
The venue features various thoughtfully designed spaces to host memorable celebrations. An inviting Walled Garden, with shaded spots ideal for mingling and group photos, provides a relaxed atmosphere. The Champagne reception area, with elevated views of Amberley Castle and the South Downs, is a striking spot for toasts. Photography opportunities abound, from the enchanting pond and jetty under the weeping willow to the atmospheric Woodland area lined with beech trees. Inside, original wooden beams and a state-of-the-art LED lighting system offer endless possibilities for decorating to each couple’s theme, from rustic to vibrant.
Bury Manor Barn transforms with each season, providing its own special appeal for weddings year-round. In spring, two magnificent magnolia trees frame the barn’s entrance, with the grounds in full bloom. For chillier days, the inner barn’s log fire adds warmth. Summer guests may enjoy the amphitheatre under open skies, with expansive views of the South Downs and Amberley Castle, while autumn brings breathtaking colours that complement the barn’s natural decor. In winter, Bury Manor Barn offers a cosy atmosphere with fairy lights and a crackling log fire, creating an inviting setting for an intimate celebration.
We had the most incredible day, it was completely epic from start to finish! So many of our guests have said it’s the best wedding they’ve been to, so thank you so much for your part in that. Everyone was complimenting the beautiful venue, the stunning views (despite all the rain!) and how seamless the whole day was. You’ve been so helpful throughout the whole process, we’re so appreciative.

The barn and grounds are beautiful and the views stunning. We had a wonderful wedding day, and really appreciated that we could DIY as much as we wanted, as we could access the venue the evening before and morning after. The team are really helpful, having someone from Bury on site all day is really nice, and we appreciated how they coordinated the timings for suppliers to ensure the set-up and day went smoothly.

Could not recommend this venue more. From the outset Julie was so helpful and on the actual day itself Sarah and Lucy went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, so we didn’t really have to think about anything! The space is absolutely stunning with beautiful views over the South Downs, the two barns are ideal for the wedding breakfast and party afterwards – seamlessly moving across from one to the other. Everyone was so complementary about how well-organised the day was, and that was definitely down to the BMB team’s expertise and their brilliant recommended suppliers. Couldn’t have asked for more!

We wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for all of the help, patience and kindness shown to us during the preparation and the day of the wedding. It truly could not have gone so smoothly without you all. The day was truly perfect and we will be forever grateful.
Married April 2023
Not only is Bury Manor Barn an absolutely stunning venue but Julie, Gemma and team running weddings are the most likeable, reasonable and professional individuals! Our wedding here in April 2023 was absolutely perfect, we knew after visiting many venues that this was absolutely the one for us, the combination of spectacular views, beautiful grounds and a large spacious barn divided into 2 met all of our requirements for the day. Unlike many other venues we had the flexibility to come in the day before for set-up which was lovely for us as we wanted a very hands-on wedding as well as come back at a leisurely pace the next day for picking up items.
The team here are just outstanding, Julie’s responsiveness and her succinct communication style is commendable, even replying to me on Easter Monday to a few quick questions. Gemma was absolutely perfect on the day (well worth paying the extra for a venue coordinator!), she had an eye over everything to make sure it went smoothly and even in the morning acted as a go-between between myself and my partner to share little snippets of how the other one was doing which was a really sweet touch. For anyone looking for a beautiful venue with a team that’s accommodating, flexible and genuinely dedicated to giving you the most perfect day, look no further.

The prettiest wedding venue in Sussex.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful wedding location in the south of England – especially on a warm and sunny August day. The Bury Manor Barn team were exceptionally accommodating and attentive from the moment we made contact – even answering our texts and emails at 10pm on a Saturday night.
The photos of the venue speak for themselves: this is an idyllic, picturesque location with lots of space that’s far away from busier rural areas, so it not only feels safe and secluded, but you feel like you have access to the entire venue. It was also very good and safe for young kids and dogs.
We got married in the adjacent church, and there’s a walkway round the back which allows direct access for guests, which was very helpful for older guests who couldn’t walk far. We also made use of the pub in Bury for those final celebratory drinks before getting hitched.
The two large rooms at Bury Manor Barn allow for space for meals and partying, without having to put tables and chairs away throughout the day. There are also many photos opportunities across the grounds, almost all of which was open on the day, and we also made use of the bank next to the river, for the couple shots.
We’d thoroughly recommend Bury Manor Barn to anyone looking to create a personalised, special, and unforgettable day. The service was impeccable and the Bury Manor Barn team were always welcoming and in constant communicable contact, which made those final few days leading up to the wedding that much easier.
Thank you for the memories.

We do have a preferred suppliers list which can be viewed on our website. This includes people who are known to us personally and many are familiar with the venue. We hope this list will be helpful as you plan your day, but you can choose other suppliers (apart from caterers) should you wish.
We do not have an in-house caterer, but you do need to choose one of our 7 preferred caterers. They are all happy to work with you to perfect your menu and vary from traditional to street food. Please note that this is a nut and sesame free site.
You are free to use your own style when decorating the barn, but it is a Grade II* listed building and so you cannot hammer nails into walls or beams and all decoration must be temporary. There are some pre-existing fixings which you are free to use. Please run your ideas past us before going ahead. Any beam or ceiling work must be completed by a Venue Dresser that holds liability insurance.
