Located just ten minutes from Exeter, Harefield Barn is a serene escape in the heart of the Devon countryside. Their carefully designed venue is not just about flexibility but also about providing a personal service that caters to your unique needs and desires.
Making the most of its elevated position, Harefield Barn is flooded with light from the huge expanse of windows, providing fabulous far-reaching views over Devon’s rolling hills. The terrace gives way to lawned areas, which are excellent for garden games and children’s play. It is flanked by a wildflower meadow and has access to hundreds of acres of farmland, including cornfields and cider orchards nearby, making it perfect for some special photos.
They have plenty of flexible spaces, enabling those creative souls amongst you to let their imaginations fly. With plenty of time to prepare, you can make your ideas come to life.
As a family business, they are committed to maintaining the personal nature of what they offer. To ensure each event receives the attention it deserves, they limit the number of weddings they host each year. This means you have the exclusive use of Harefield Barn for two full days, allowing you to relax and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. The team are always open to other options, as they strive to be flexible and inclusive and are ready to accommodate your unique needs.
If you’re planning a more DIY-style wedding, Harefield Barn can help to organise the essentials in terms of food and drink, leaving you to concentrate on those fabulous finishing touches!
Versatility is key, with their licence allowing for ceremonies anywhere on site from 2 to 200 (standing) guests. Five beautiful village churches are within three miles, so Harefield Barn is the perfect spot for a fabulous rustic reception.
With such stunning views, it comes as no surprise that many couples at Harefield Barn choose an al fresco ceremony. However, with a beautiful dedicated indoor room licensed for up to 100 guests, it doesn’t matter what the English weather throws at you-they have it covered.
The dramatic light and airy reception room has a fabulous high-beamed ceiling and views to die for. With a stunning glass gable wall and two sets of big bi-fold doors that frame those rolling Devon hills, it’s a beautiful space to relax and enjoy time with family and friends celebrating your special day.
For your wedding breakfast, a long top table for 8-10 and up to 120 more guests can be accommodated at round tables within the Main Hall. There’s also space to invite additional evening guests, up to a total of 200.
No accommodation is available on-site, but there are plenty of local places to stay. As Harefield Barn is just a 10-minute taxi ride from Exeter, the options are endless.
What they do have, however, is a stunning area in which to prepare. The Leveret Suite is bright, sunny, and comfortably furnished, making it the perfect place for the couple and their attendants to spend the morning of the wedding. With a relaxed ‘drawing room’ vibe, it also has all the mod-cons you need, including plenty of well-placed power points for your makeup artists and hair stylists and a fridge for your fizz and snacks, not forgetting the loo and shower.
Harefield Barn has a selection of preferred caterers. They want to ensure that you receive delicious food and impeccable service, so they ask that you choose from one of those. However, if you have a particular caterer you would like to use, they are happy to consider this in certain circumstances.
Harefield Barn tries hard to be as sustainable as possible. This includes replacing paper towels with solar-powered hand dryers and fabric hand towels, which are washed using local spring water and dried, again using solar power.
They encourage all the suppliers who offer their services to clients using the Barn to use locally sourced and sustainable options where possible.
Harefield Barn lies roughly halfway between Exeter and Crediton and is surrounded by several pretty villages-ideal if you would like a traditional Church wedding before your reception!
Many villages and local farms offer holiday lets and bed and breakfast accommodation for you and your guests, so if they don’t live locally, getting married at Harefield Barn provides the perfect opportunity for them to enjoy a break in the beautiful Devon countryside.
Harefield Barn’s beautiful location feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but it’s actually just a 10-minute taxi ride from Exeter St Davids train station. It’s approached through easy country lanes and has plenty of parking on site.
First of all we would like to start off by saying we had the most amazing Wedding Day, it was everything we’d dreamed and considering we did it all within 8 months! It was most certainly the best day of our lives so thank you very much for letting us have Harefield Barn for our special day. You were a wonderful help and always there via email or phone if ever we needed you.
So where do we start with the venue; it was the most amazing and beautiful venue with incredible views and we were so lucky with the weather for our special day – it was the cherry on top. The venue has everything you need, from a room for the Bride and Bridal party to get ready in, to the bar with a cosy log burner built in (perfect for those winter/colder months). It has an outdoor fire pit which was also lovely for the evening of our wedding and lots of our guests were very happy to have had this. Harefield has all of the amenities you could possibly need and is the perfect location for a barn wedding. It’s the perfect venue if you want a DIY wedding in a rustic, but modern place. Truly beautiful and we couldn’t have wished for any better – the views are to die for. The venue/surroundings had SOOO many compliments from all of our guests and everyone loved it just as much as we did!
Debbie also has a lot of decorations on offer to hire which is very useful if there’s anything you’ve forgotten. On every occasion we went to view the venue and on the weekend of our own wedding, it was always very clean and tidy and it has such a welcoming atmosphere.
I would recommend this venue to anyone, it is truly beautiful, with great owners and magnificent place to get married!
Thank you so much for letting us have our wedding at Harefield Barn. The building, location and views were all amazing and the perfect setting for the day. Thank you also for all your help in the run up to the day and on the day itself – you were so flexible and efficient in helping everything run to plan.
We can’t ever thank you enough for helping our wedding go ahead and for being so wonderful. We had the mot incredible day and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. It was pure magic.
We were in a total bubble all day, our guests were so complimentary and, for a day, we almost forgot about the ‘C’ word! We wish you both the best for the future and can’t wait to return one day.
It goes without saying how hugely appreciative we are for everything you’ve done to make our wedding happen. The start of our married lives together and the start of weddings again at Harefield Barn… at last!
Thank you again for your support, understanding and for providing the most beautiful venue!
Married Summer 2020
We had a brilliant day. Thank you for both being so accommodating throughout. We couldn’t have had a more perfect place to get married.
Married October 2020
We got married here in July 2019 and it was amazing!! Such a gorgeous place, the building is perfectly fit for purpose (big space, plenty of different rooms, bar, caterers kitchen and lovely outdoor terrace). Deborah went above and beyond to answer our questions, provide what we needed and was around to offer help during set up and on the day itself, even helping set down – we were so impressed with how helpfully involved she was! On top of all of this, the venue has stunning views in all directions!
We had the most perfect day for our wedding at Harefield Barn. Deborah and Robert were so helpful right from the moment we booked the barn, answering any queries and helping us with all our decisions to help bring the whole day together. They were also on hand to help things run smoothly on the big day.
Harefield is the perfect wedding venue offering complete flexibility and a beautiful backdrop, it really was the best day of our lives.
Had our wedding on Saturday and it was perfect! Harefield is such a beautiful place and everyone said how wonderful the views were and how it was the most relaxed wedding they’d ever been too! Deborah and Robert were wonderful all day, so calm and made our day run perfectly!
They couldn’t have done enough for us – we both highly recommend Harefield for your wedding!
I think after a week back to normality with work and school runs we have finally floated back down to earth from our wonderful wedding. From the set up on the Friday to landing back from our honeymoon, we never stopped smiling.
So many people who came to our day expressed how much fun they had and what a fab venue Harefield is; the word is being spread far and wide! We never doubted your vision and reaped all the rewards of the finished product. I took a moment to just pause and take in the sight of our friends and family with smiley faces, happily tucking in to food, drink in hand and flowing in out and around the barn just as we wanted.
You and Robert both worked so hard across the whole weekend to keep things running smoothly and we are so grateful as our memories of our day is just one of pure happiness, love and joy.
Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you for helping to make our day so special. I have often heard people say that their wedding day was the best day of their lives and never previously paid any attention. How right they are! Our day was so unbelievably special and you helped us achieve our dream.
Yes, you can! We are huge fans of a fireworks display and have the perfect location. The field next to the Barn falls gently away, so you can stand on the terrace and watch everything in style. It's even possible to make it a complete surprise, as the set-up can happen discreetly, without your guests knowing a thing! We have had some simply stunning displays with and without music. We ask that they be finished by 11pm and only carried out by a professional firework company.
Of course, you can! Some of the most amazing unposed photos are taken while happy couples are bombarded with confetti, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Our only stipulation is that the confetti should consist of real petals only, either fresh or dried.
We don't have any accommodation on-site, but please look at the beautiful local places to stay listed on our website. These include cottages, B&Bs, lovely country pubs, and many more. Being just a 10-minute taxi ride from Exeter or Crediton means it's easy to access all the hotels and other accommodations there, too. Or, if you prefer, you can opt to camp on-site, either with your own kit or by hiring luxury bell tents for your guests to use.
We provide round tables and chairs for your event, with some trestles for top or side tables. However, you are more than welcome to hire any different furniture to create a different vibe for your day, and we can help you with the best local companies to use for this.
150 acres - or about ten fields of it! In practice, of course, your guests will not go far, but immediately around the Barn, we have large lawned areas and meadows with paths, so there is plenty of space for outdoor games and children to run. We also have stunning views and orchards to enjoy on the farm, and we are happy for you and your photographer to use them for an engagement shoot or during the wedding day.
You certainly can! As licensed premises, you can hold your ceremony anywhere within the Barn or on our grounds.
You can indeed. We ask that they be collected before lunchtime the day after your event.
Definitely not! Once you have made your grand exit at the end of the evening, we will clear down all your belongings and pack them for you or your helpers to collect the next morning.
No. We arrange all the furniture set-up and removal according to your requirements, which we will discuss at your final planning meeting.
We provide a fire pit with logs and light and manage it for you during the evening as appropriate, so make sure you have marshmallows to hand for those late-night toastings!
