Hamswell House is set within 50 acres of gorgeous grounds, gardens, and private land, offering breathtaking country views. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Cotswolds, the venue provides a beautiful rural setting with spectacular scenery. These stunning surroundings create the perfect backdrop for wedding photography, making Hamswell House an ideal location for your dream wedding day.
Ceremonies at Hamswell House can be held in front of the romantic 18th-century orangery, under the boughs of the magnificent 400-year-old lime tree in front of the house, or down by the 18th-century water garden, which provides unique and beautiful settings for exchanging vows. In the event of bad weather, ceremonies can also be held under the marquee’s awning.
Following the ceremony, guests can enjoy a relaxed drinks reception on the terrace, which offers spectacular views over the Hamswell Valley with the Westbury white horse visible in the distance. Guests are also invited to explore the delightful walled gardens, the 18th-century water garden featuring a Neptune fountain and water lilies, the lover’s knot garden, and the pergola before heading to the marquee for the wedding breakfast.
A venue with a beautiful garden means you need fewer cut flowers. The West Country has first-class local ingredients, which means fewer food miles.
Hamswell House is conveniently located near Bath and Bristol in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It is easily accessible from the M4, Bristol, and Heathrow airports, making it an ideal choice for guests travelling from different locations. London less than 2 hours.
We had our wedding at Hamswell House this summer and the day could not have been more perfect. The venue is stunning and felt truly special. I loved it and knew it was right for us the moment we viewed it! There are plenty of lovely areas for photographs and for guests to explore. We had our ceremony in the Orangery and it felt so intimate and personal. It’s a really gorgeous building and we had guests watching from the lawn outside. Rupert was so attentive and friendly every time we came to visit and always on hand if we needed anything. Absolutely loved the dogs too! All in all I couldn’t recommend Hamswell House more for an elegant, classic, country wedding.
We had our wedding at Hamswell House in August. We had guests come from 7 different countries and all commented on how stunning the grounds, house and views were.
Rupert was exceptionally helpful, giving us suggestions and tips as well as connections to local suppliers. Would definitely recommend it as a wedding venue!
Married August 2022
The absolute best day of our lives, in the most perfectly beautiful setting. We couldn’t have imagined getting married anywhere more picturesque! Thank you to Rupert for making everything run so smoothly.
Hamswell House was an absolutely perfect venue for us to get married, and I couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone considering it! We knew as soon as we drove down the drive that it was special, but then we completely fell in love with it when Rupert pointed out the beautiful 400-year-old lime tree (under which we ended up having the ceremony), the gardens that host the oldest wisteria in England (!) and we saw the unreal views over the countryside. The house itself is also absolutely stunning, creating a beautiful backdrop for the day.
As it is a home and not solely a wedding venue, there are a limited number of weddings hosted there a year which makes it feel all the more special, and means you have the days before to set up and you aren’t rushed out of there afterwards. We even had the option to host a lunch there the day after the wedding to debrief with our guests and extend the celebrations, which was such a highlight.
Rupert was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process, answering all of our questions and sharing his experience to help us with logistics, it made the whole process of planning the wedding so much smoother, particularly as we were doing so from abroad!
We couldn’t have hoped for a happier day and we are so thankful we trusted our instincts and booked this amazing venue. If you are thinking about it definitely do it you won’t regret it!

Toby and I got married at Hamswell House on 3rd August this year. It was honestly the most perfect venue, and we couldn’t have wished for a better day. All of our guests were blown away, and it was so special. Rupert was so easy to deal with, answered any questions that we had and was always around should we need him. I loved that not many people knew the venue (it isn’t like the other commercial venues you find) and that is why we loved it. We had so much flexibility. Everything from the recommended caterers to the marquee company was fantastic. I want to do it all over again!

A simply stunning venue for the best day of our lives. We would wholeheartedly recommend it!
The Hamswell team made us very welcome from start to finish and offered us lots of help and guidance in the build-up to the day.
I must also mention the gardeners at Hamswell who have produced something very special which elevates this to a truly magical venue – our guests were totally blown away by the surrounding beauty.
Thank you so much Hamswell – a day we’ll never forget.

We had the most magical wedding day at Hamswell House! It is such a stunning venue in the most superb setting, with gorgeous views over the rolling hills of Bath. Working with Rupert throughout was great; he was very helpful and responsive, and it was great to see him over our wedding weekend, too. Rupert’s recommended suppliers were fab and super reliable, and we were happy to be able to recommend a couple more from our wedding to his list. We had the most happy, fun-filled, wonderful day, and we highly recommend it as a wedding venue.
Married July 2024
Hamswell House made all our wedding dreams (and more!) come true. We got married in July 2023 at Hamswell House. I am from Hawai’i, and my husband is from Chepstow, so it was important to us to have a venue near his hometown. We also had guests travelling from Hawai’i and Australia, and we were keen to give them a feel for the beautiful English countryside while also staying in the vicinity of a city where our guests could overnight. Hamswell House is perfectly located, roughly 15 minutes from the centre of Bath, with taxis serving the venue.
We both knew from the moment we drove down the beautiful lane into the driveway of Hamswell House that we had to have this venue, and it was easily one of the best decisions we have ever made! Rupert limits the number of weddings at the venue, so couples are given a lot of flexibility to plan their wedding and make it unique to them. It really felt like we had a blank canvas to begin with, and we appreciated this so much, having visited numerous other venues (both in Hawai’i and in the UK) that felt more like wedding factories with no space for couples to personalize. The limited number of events also allows the lawns and gardens to really flourish, which completely enhances their charm and character.
We had our ceremony in front of the historic and gorgeous lime tree with the stunning house as the backdrop when Kiran and I pulled up in our car. Our guests enjoyed strolling around the grounds, checking out the herb gardens, walking along the fountain, and posing for photos under the breathtaking wisteria pergola walkways. We really wanted to give our guests a variety of settings to enjoy. Of course, Kiran and I (and our photographer) loved all the different and stunning backgrounds for our photos as well. We had roughly 110 guests, and we received endless compliments from them throughout the evening on the venue!
Lastly, and most importantly, Rupert was an absolute dream to work with. He was quick to respond to inquiries, and his hospitality and kindness were truly out of this world. Rupert came to the rescue of one of our elderly guests even though he had no obligation to, and he treated them with so much respect and compassion. He also put us in touch with our fantastic wedding planner, Olivia Riddiford.
We are so grateful that we were able to book Hamswell House – If you are looking to get married in South West England, please trust us when we say you do not need to look any further than this perfect venue.

Mat and I had our Summer wedding at Hamswell House, and it was the best decision we made.
From the very first time we saw Hamswell House, we were blown away by how beautiful the house and grounds were and the incredible views of the countryside. It was the perfect place for us to have an outdoor summer wedding where we could get married, surrounded by nature with our nearest and dearest!
On our wedding day, Hamswell House looked pristine. In the evening, the lanterns looked stunning, and the little touches they did didn’t go unnoticed. From the get-go, we had guests complimenting the venue and the different areas we could explore as the wedding day went on- from the entrance walk to the beautiful house, to the ceremony under the lime tree, to the orangery confetti shot, the reception drinks with breathtaking views and the beautiful marquee setup, there was a lot of variety, and this kept our guests guessing! We even had a very special golden hour photo shoot in the field above the house.
Rupert, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, always answering emails efficiently and providing recommendations. It was great to have such accommodating hosts as our allies for our big day. From the beginning, you were so welcoming.
We were made to feel very welcome on the Sunday, when we all returned for a relaxed Sunday buffet, which turned into fun games on the lawn afterwards.
We cannot recommend Hamswell House highly enough for a wedding! It was the best weekend of our lives and a lot of our guests said it was the best wedding they have been to as well.
Married July 2024
We got married at Hamswell House during the early May bank holiday, and it was such a special day. We had guests travel from Australia and South Africa, so we were keen to give them the quintessential English countryside wedding they deserved. The setting certainly did not disappoint, and we have had so many compliments on how beautiful the wedding was – from the marquee setup to the flowers to the delicious food served by Epic Caterers. The gardens are kept in an immaculate condition, and I can imagine they look pristine all year round.
We would recommend Hamswell House as a wedding venue to anyone in a heartbeat, and we will always look back on our wedding day with very fond memories. Thank you so much to Rupert and all the Hamswell suppliers.

To picture our wedding day without Hamswell House is to not picture it at all. Hamswell was the first and last venue we viewed. It is large, versatile, and picture-perfect. Rupert is a helpful, honest, and very knowledgeable ally as you plan and hurtle towards your wedding day. We hope many more will have the pleasure of holding their wedding at Hamswell.

We fell in love with Hamswell the moment we saw it and knew it would be perfect for our wedding and it certainly delivered. All of our guests were commenting on the spectacular view. It truly was the most amazing day; it definitely wouldn’t have been the same without such a fantastic venue.
Hamswell House is an incredible wedding venue that you won’t regret choosing! The location in the Somerset countryside is breathtakingly beautiful and provided a stunning backdrop for our special day. From the very start, communication with Rupert was seamless and easy. He was relaxed and accommodating, allowing us to personalise our wedding exactly as we envisioned. Our guests were thoroughly impressed and couldn’t stop raving about the gorgeous grounds and scenery. We would wholeheartedly recommend Hamswell to anyone looking to make their wedding day truly memorable.
Married June 2024
We were married at Hamswell in early June and we couldn’t have asked for a more enchanting and magical setting for our day.
We had the official ceremony under the lime tree which worked really well – many cited this as their favourite part of the day, as it felt unique and non-traditional. The gardens and views are absolutely beautiful and the perfect backdrop to every photo. The whole venue has an excellent flow to keep guests moving to different areas, finishing in the marquee. We would also highly recommend Epic Caterers.
Rupert could not have been more helpful and responsive throughout – it is well worth leaning on his expertise during planning as he knows what works. We would highly recommend Hamswell House for what one of our guests called “a destination wedding in England”.

Really had such a truly magical experience in your lovely garden and would like to say a big thank you again! Our guests thought it was the most beautiful venue they had ever seen.
The wedding venue of dreams! I organised a wedding for a gorgeous couple at Hamswell House earlier this month, the weather was perfect and we were able to make use of the incredible grounds. The house provides the most glorious backdrop for a quintessentially English country wedding. The host – Rupert, is a marvellous chap and very helpful, though you are free to organise the wedding that you/your client wants. I cannot recommend this stunning venue more highly. I am looking forward to organising many more at Hamswell House in the future.
We had THE best day ever! Couldn’t have hoped for a more stunning, perfect venue. All of our guests fell in love with it too.
Hamswell House provided us with a fantastic setting on our wedding day this September: the far-reaching views of peaceful countryside, romantically lit orangery and gardens together with the beautiful house itself all gave the most wonderful back-drop to our special day. We and our guests also had complete privacy to really enjoy the occasion. In addition Rupert and Victoria were experienced and helpful throughout the process, which made the planning stages all the more enjoyable.

We had our wedding at Hamswell House on 6th May 2018 and I honestly can’t imagine a more heavenly place for it. The house, gardens, rolling hills and woods filled with wild garlic are spectacular and our hosts, Rupert and Victoria, were so kind and supportive, it was like organising it with friends. From our first visit to the day, 14 months later, they were incredible. If you’re considering Hamswell, you absolutely should go for it – I can’t imagine a more incredible setting or happier place for the best day of your and your family’s lives.
For many, a marquee in the garden of a beautiful country house is the first choice for a romantic wedding reception. At Hamswell House, you have the fabulous walled gardens, the backdrop of a historic manor house, breathtaking views, and a convenient location near Bath and Bristol.
Yes. Hamswell House is a private estate. Unlike other venues, you will not share your special day with other brides, hotel guests or golfers. You will also have the day before to set up.
Yes. You can bring your own wine and champagne if you wish. We do not charge corkage throughout the entire event. This contrasts with many hotels and commercial venues, where the markup on the wines and champagnes can be eye-watering.
The bespoke marquee can be personalised to suit your requirements, from 40 to 200.
We have a shortlist of four excellent caterers. You can choose whichever one you like. If none meet your requirements, you can use a caterer not on the list for an additional charge.
We do not, as fabulous accommodation in all price ranges is only fifteen minutes away in the historic city of Bath. There are also excellent country hotels nearby, so your guests can make a weekend of it if they choose. We can give you some suggestions.
