The scandi-esque vibe of this wedding venue is the perfect blank canvas for bright shades and what better combo than coral, peach and mint all brought together by a hint of gold.
Five ladies in the wedding industry met at Southend Barns to set up this amazing wedding photoshoot and they’re going to talk you through their style choices. They wanted to show off each space that makes up this fab venue – providing inspiration for venues, planners and brides as to what could be realised in this or any similar location. This styled shoot covers the a ceremony set-up, a dining area, a drinks table, a sweet table, a cake table, a wishing tree and various outside scenes around the venue!
There may also be a butterfly motif, just like our Modern Vintage style category!
So let’s kick off the week with this stunning rustic editorial, captured by Hana Venn Photography.
Hana Venn:
With the incredibly talented group of suppliers styling the shoot, I knew I was going to be blessed with lots of beautiful things to photograph. A lot of my brides tell me of how they are inspired by styled shoots, the way the photographs can show them what is achievable within their colour scheme and theme. My aim was to create photographs which inspired people and show what they can achieve for their own weddings, focusing on the smallest details to the bigger areas, really setting the scene!
Southend Barns was the perfect venue for the shoot, having photographed weddings there, I knew that I would be spoilt for choice with photo locations whatever the weather, and would be surrounded by beautiful rustic backdrops and countryside…
The ceremonies room with its white décor has high exposed beams and wooden benches for the seated guests. We added unassuming drapes and hanging ivy to provide a new dimension to the room whilst the bridal flowers stood out on the neutral background.
“In keeping with the chosen colour scheme of a mixed palette of coral, peach and mint green with a hint of gold we selected ‘Juliet’ & ‘Miss Piggy’ Roses, ‘Jana’ Spray Roses, green Lisianthus, peach Hypericum Berries, white Astilbe, cream Stocks, Eucalyptus Cinerea and variegated trailing Ivy. Whilst complementing the colour scheme and the rural but sophisticated setting of the venue, the chosen flowers also reflected current wedding trends in terms of both colour and varieties of flowers and style of arrangements…” {Bridal Flowers Direct – Sally}
In the Dining Room ribbons adorned the chairs with crystal glass floral centrepieces. Gold edged plates with gold cutlery complete with crystal glassware created a classic table style. Butterfly menu’s and name cards matched in colour the mini macaron favours with complimenting confetti strewn over the crisp white cloth.
Something for the evening possibly..? What about setting an area where your guests can pour their own drink from a decanter or a tapped drink dispenser. Or how about a dedicated dessert table…?
“I loved working with the coral, peach and mint colour theme for this shoot. Using the fresh white base colour as the backdrop worked perfectly. The colour theme suited the rustic barn backdrop and would look gorgeous for a spring or summer wedding. Coral and peach can be quite difficult to colour match as there are a variety of tones available. The products I created for the shoot worked as backdrops for the macarons and flowers. They worked to enhance the star pieces, setting the scene and tying the theme together. I aim to create pieces that are beautiful but are not the main attraction. They create focus on key areas but do not scream look at me…” {Creative Wedding Workshop – Eliza}
There are Macarons galore in this impressive tower and mini macarons and other yummy items create a gorgeous sweet table. Taking a piece of furniture, in this case Southend Barns sideboard, edible pieces combine to create a focal area at a wedding. Gold leafed marshmallows bring the ‘hint of gold’ element into the sweet table.
Continuing the sugary theme, a naked cake always looks amazing whether it’s tall or small. Here with the backdrops, barn setting, the addition of macarons, fruit and matching flowers it looks simply superb.
“Knowing the colour scheme allowed me to create many shades of macarons to produce what I believe is a striking macaron tower. On its own it is a lovely item, but when dressed with accompanying mini macarons, macaron pops, cupcakes and gold leafed marshmallows you can see how a dessert table can be created. Whilst the mini macarons in diminutive bell jars looked gorgeous as favours on the dining table. My overall plan when creating the simple naked cake decorated with macarons and fruit was for it to complement the macaron tower and show how it could provide another dessert option at a wedding…”

The Bride, Groom and Flower Girls were captured in the romantic courtyards and gardens of Southend Barns. The flower girls wore exclusive designed dresses that balanced perfectly with the Bride’s gown and grey suit of the Groom.
“This exclusive design is a simple yet sophisticated dress style in a satin with a little lace detail sash, that complemented the look of the day. I chose a very soft pink which worked so well with the beautiful coral and peach tones of the shoot. With matching dyed Rainbow Club shoes as the dresses to co-ordinate the look, combined with simple cardigans and hair accessories that just finished off the outfits…” {Eliza Mabel – Cheryl}
