Homme House: A Sustainable Wedding Venue in the Heart of Herefordshire

Homme House: A Sustainable Wedding Venue in the Heart of Herefordshire

Sustainability is a big, important, sometimes overwhelming topic—one that touches every part of modern life, and yes, folks, that absolutely includes weddings.

While no one is asking you to forgo your dream day in the name of eco-perfection, it’s genuinely inspiring to see so many wedding venues and suppliers embracing thoughtful, meaningful change, especially when it’s done in a way that enhances the celebration rather than taking away from it.

your kind of venues

At Coco Wedding Venues, we’ve been watching this gentle but powerful shift ripple through the wedding industry for some time now—and we’re 100% here for it. Couples are asking different questions, prioritising values as much as visuals, and increasingly looking for ways to celebrate with a lighter footprint. And where better to begin than with your venue?

Our Venue Finder tool is a great place to begin—just tick the ‘Eco’ filter under Venue Type and see what comes up. You might be surprised by what’s out there! Just remember that sustainability isn’t always about stripping back your day—it’s also about enriching it with meaning and intention, which brings me to a real gem…

Today, we’re spotlighting one of our favourite sustainable venues: Homme House, a family-owned country house in the heart of Herefordshire. Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, but it’s also making waves with its thoughtful approach to sustainable weddings—underpinned by an ethos of regeneration, restoration, and real purpose.

Homme House is an exclusive-use Georgian country house (with 16th-century origins) set within 200 acres of Herefordshire’s most idyllic landscape. Think sweeping views towards the Malvern Hills, 110 acres of wild parkland, and 80 acres of magical woodland.

But there’s much more going on here than picture-perfect scenery. At its core, Homme is a family home with a proud commitment to sustainability, community, and custodianship. Weddings here actively contribute to the restoration of this historic estate and its surrounding habitats. The team at Homme refers to their approach as a “regenerative” one—where weddings don’t just aim to minimise harm but leave a positive and lasting impact.

We strongly believe that a sustainable wedding needn’t mean compromise. Quite the opposite. Thoughtful, mindful choices—celebrating the natural, the seasonal and the local—can enhance the magic of a wedding day and the good it can do in the world.

From low-energy lighting and eco toiletries to food waste composting and refillable glass bottles in every room, sustainability is woven into the fabric of this home. Proceeds from weddings directly support conservation projects across the estate, including the restoration of listed heritage buildings, biodiversity-focused woodland management, and native grassland stewardship in partnership with local organisations like Herefordshire Meadows.

And that’s not all. Homme’s midweek weddings take their mission even further…

Midweek Style

For couples leaning into the slow-living ethos, Homme’s carefully curated midweek wedding offer is beautiful and brilliantly planet-friendly.

Highlights include:

  • A guest list of up to 60 (or fewer, if you’re thinking elopement or micro wedding)
  • Accommodation for up to 34 guests on-site, keeping travel to a minimum
  • Seasonal, locally sourced menus from a selection of eco-minded caterers
  • 100% British-grown, foam-free florals by The Ledbury Flower Farmer
  • A drinks list brimming with tipples from the local area—sparkling wine, cider, gin and more (all corkage-free)
  • A percentage of venue revenue is donated to community projects in the village of Much Marcle

Eco-Friendly Wedding Ideas

If you’re dreaming of a greener wedding, Homme House is full of inspiration. From the practical to the poetic, here are a few ways to tread a little lighter on your big day.

  • Smaller guest numbers naturally lead to a lower impact and allow you to focus on your loved ones. An intimate wedding doesn’t have to mean pared-back or less special, though. It often feels much more meaningful.
  • Choosing local suppliers is a game-changer when it comes to reducing travel emissions. It also means you’re supporting businesses in the venue’s immediate area.
  • When it comes to food, think seasonal and locally sourced. A beautifully curated menu can feel indulgent while being kinder to the planet. Vegetarian and vegan options are increasingly popular—and very delicious. Drinks are another place to get creative. Look to your local area for sparkling wines, ciders, ales and spirits that add a sense of place to your celebration.
  • Floral styling can be stunning and sustainable. Many florists now prioritise British-grown blooms and foam-free arrangements, and if you opt for dried or potted plants, they can always be gifted or reused after the wedding day.
  • Travel is often one of the biggest contributors to your wedding footprint, so encouraging guests to car share or offering group transport from the nearest train station can make a real difference. (In Homme’s case, Ledbury is the perfect transport hub).
  • Wedding attire is another area to explore. Pre-loved pieces, conscious brands, or outfits you’ll actually wear again all help reduce impact—and can be a great excuse to get creative.
  • When it comes to décor, less is often more. Focus on the meaningful details. Borrowed, hired, or secondhand pieces can be every bit as stylish and much more sustainable.
  • Homemade, charitable, or nature-inspired gifts as favours often carry more emotional value—and create less waste.
  • And, of course, avoid single-use plastics wherever you can! If you’re using compostable items, double-check that they’ll break down in the facilities available locally—not all compostables are created equal.

A Vision for the Future

Planning a sustainable wedding doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly—it means doing what you can with what you have and choosing people and places who care as much as you do.

Homme House is one of those places. With a big heart, a rich heritage, and a clear-eyed vision for the future, it’s an extraordinary venue doing extraordinary things—and we’re super proud to have them as part of our venue collection.
