Whilst not quite a weekday, we did choose to marry on another overlooked day – a Sunday. In all honesty, we did mull it over but it was the only summer date our venue had left. And we loved the venue.
The thoughts that whirled around in our heads went something like this: “Would our guests be OK if the following day was a dreaded Monday? Would those who needed to travel be happy to take the next day off work? Was it all in all a selfish and silly thing to do?”
Looking back… it made absolutely no difference whatsoever. Our Sunday wedding rocked.
So if you’re currently considering an alternative wedding date, especially a weekday wedding, then here’s the lovely Ruth from Huntsmill Farm with some more thoughts on the matter.
Congratulations, you’re engaged! Once you’ve calmed down, phoned all your family and friends and put the all-important ring photo on Instagram, you might start thinking about when you’re going to get married. Saturday is still by far the most popular day of the week to get married but weekday weddings are a trend that is growing worldwide.
Why are weekday weddings winning the popularity contest?
Firstly, and possibly most importantly, they are significantly cheaper. As a quick comparison exercise you can check out our prices to see what you could save by having a weekday wedding at Huntsmill Farm. This could help to keep some pennies in the bank for a rainy day or it could mean you can splash out on that special touch you’ve been stalking on Pinterest!
Venue availability is much more likely when choosing a weekday wedding, so if you really want a summer wedding and don’t fancy waiting an extra year then opt for a weekday and you’ll be saying ‘I do’ before you know it! Here at Huntsmill Farm you can get married on a Tuesday or a Thursday during the week. Check in with your desired venue to see how their weekday weddings work and which days they’re able to allocate to your celebration.
Another big bonus is that all your favourite wedding suppliers will have much more availability during the week compared to weekends which can book up a year ahead or more! This is the same for the registrars who will be much more likely to have the most coveted time slots available during the week.

Why have a Weekday Wedding?
Things to consider
Everything so far sounds like a no-brainer, right?! There are however a few things to consider.
Your guests might be a tad reluctant to book a day or two off work and if they’re teachers it might be nigh on impossible. Before you go ahead and book, have a handle on who you would be inviting and take into consideration those that might struggle with a weekday celebration. With enough notice people can make arrangements if they want to come, but be understanding if there’s a little hesitation from some of your guests. Lots of people work weekends too, so there will always have to be a little give and take.
Try to ‘sell’ some of the positives to your guests such as onsite accommodation! If you book your wedding at Huntsmill Farm you can entice people away from their desks by selling it as a mini-holiday. As well as the barn and grounds you get two nights accommodation included with your booking and as we’re nestled in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside it really does feel like you’ve left the real world behind. Your guests will have the best time celebrating your big day but will also reap the benefits of a lovely break away from the daily grind.
You could also opt for a slightly later ceremony so that anyone more local would only have to book a half day or come after work. Most friends worth their salt will make every effort to come to your special day so make sure you give everyone as much notice as you can so they can plan accordingly.
