In this behind-the-venue feature, we take a closer look at what makes Primrose Hill Farm tick: from the way the spaces flow and flex, to the people, principles and passion behind every celebration held here. A venue with a clear point of view, designed for couples who value beauty, warmth and a wedding day that feels effortless from start to finish. Over to the team…
Primrose Hill Farm comprises three striking barns, sensitively converted from their original agricultural use into a flowing, light-filled space for modern weddings. Throughout, we’ve focused on the details that genuinely make a difference for our couples and their guests, from the acoustics and lighting to how the day transitions between each part of the venue.
Licensed for civil ceremonies, the Ceremony Barn is a beautiful space filled with natural light and clean architectural lines. It works just as well dressed in abundant seasonal florals and draping as it does pared back with just our trees and lanterns lining the aisle. After the ceremony, the celebrations flow effortlessly between our connected barns: the Courtyard Barn for drinks and dancing, and the Dining Barn for long, leisurely feasts, celebratory toasts, and uninterrupted countryside views that transition with the season.
We love that every couple brings their own vision to Primrose Hill Farm, and our spaces welcome them all, from vibrant, colourful palettes to soft, romantic tones, from full-on summer festival vibes to pretty candlelit elegance. We’ve ensured that our barns are refined without being fussy, and modern without feeling stark. There’s no patterned wallpaper to contend with, no portraits you need to work around or inherited decor you have to make do with, just the right amount of stylish, pared-back design to let your own aesthetic shine. Ours is a blank canvas, but certainly not a plain one.
Although we’re surrounded by 120 acres of farmland here in the North Oxfordshire Cotswolds, we’re not a farm in the traditional sense – despite what our name might suggest. You won’t find heavy machinery working the land or the usual sounds and smells of commercial agriculture. Instead, there are wildflower meadows, trout pools, our small herd of Dexter cattle, an ancient orchard and plenty of wildlife.
This peaceful, natural setting provides a beautiful contrast to the venue’s clean lines and contemporary feel. Step inside, and you’ll find elegant, modern spaces that feel calm and considered yet are designed entirely for celebration. We’re not a rustic barn venue, nor a modern industrial building; we sit somewhere in between, offering an elevated, design-led backdrop that works perfectly for every season and style.
One of the things our couples mention often is how naturally everything flows, and that’s no accident. Behind every celebration at Primrose Hill Farm is an amazing team who know the venue inside out and take immense pride in ensuring things run smoothly, without ever feeling staged or rushed.
From your first enquiry, you’ll be looked after by our experienced planning team: Jo, Michelle, Jane, Donna and Liane; all known for their warmth, attention to detail, and true professionalism. We’re a family-led business, guided by our Creative Director, JJ, and supported by a brilliant wider crew who all care deeply about the guest experience and how a wedding day unfolds.
On the day itself, our couples have access to the Orchard Barn from 7:30am, a peaceful, private space for getting ready, complete with abundant natural light. While you get ready, we handle all logistics, keep everything on track, and step in wherever needed so that you can focus on the celebration, not the details of the schedule.
Weddings at Primrose Hill Farm are known for many things, but the food is almost always one of the biggest highlights. We’re proud to partner with The Kitchen at Primrose Hill Farm, our in-house catering team, who bring creativity and deliciousness to every service. Their style is generous and seasonal, with a focus on big flavours and beautifully presented dishes, ranging from feasting-style sharing boards and bowls to individually plated courses.
From chargrilled bavette steak and Mumbai-spiced chicken BBQ boards to individual handmade pies with all the trimmings, our menus feature standout classic dishes alongside a fusion of tastes and flavours from around the globe. Some couples stick to our curated menu; others opt for a completely bespoke approach. Either way, you can expect options for every palette and dietary requirement, alongside beautiful plating and a service that always brings the energy.
We don’t offer on-site accommodation; however, we see that as one of our strengths. It means your guests are free to stay however (and wherever) suits them and their budget best, whether that’s five minutes up the road or a little further afield for a full weekend away.
We find this way, there’s no added pressure to allocate rooms or book blocks, and no minimum of nights to manage – just the freedom to plan your celebration without the additional admin. We’re always very happy to recommend local stays, from boutique hotels and cosy pubs to charming countryside rentals; you really are spoilt for choice here in the Cotswolds.
Since 2013, alongside growing the events side of the business, we’ve also been restoring and caring for the land with a low-intervention, nature-first approach and a commitment to protecting the biodiversity of our little patch of Oxfordshire.
You’ll spot swallows and red kites overhead, hares and muntjac on a quiet morning, and meadow grasses swaying in the breeze. While it isn’t something we shout about often, this connection to the land is an integral part of who we are – and an even bigger part of where we’re heading. We believe it brings a certain calm and character to Primrose Hill Farm – a feeling that’s both grounding and joyful, and it’s something we’re exceptionally proud to share with every couple who celebrates here.
