Whether you’re just starting your wedding planning journey or revisiting your venue, open days are the ideal time to see your would-be wedding venue decked out in decor and filled with people. You might have seen plenty of photographs or looked through their Instagram accounts, but nothing compares to seeing the wedding venue of your dreams in person.
Visiting an open day is your perfect chance to get the look and feel of the venue and see if it’s the right fit for you. During the day you will have opportunities for asking questions, and meeting the wedding coordinators, and can expect to have an informal show-round of the venue, grounds and facilities.
To make sure you use your time at an open day to your advantage, Huntsmill Farm has written some of its top tips for preparing for an open day visit.
Remember to take information away with you
Open days can often feel a little overwhelming. You usually speak to several people on the day and are given so much information it can be hard to remember everything. During an open day pick up any brochures, welcome packs or leaflets from the venue and other suppliers whilst you are there, so then you can take them home to look over to help with your decision-making.
Prepare your questions before you visit
If you’ve got lots of questions about your wedding venue, or potential wedding venue, open days are the perfect place for them. Take time to come up with some questions before you visit, and then you can make sure you get all the answers you need, and that nothing is forgotten.
If you’re going back to visit your booked wedding venue, this would be a great chance to check sizes for any decorations you have planned or to confirm anything you need to with the wedding coordinators.
Book for a guided tour
Don’t miss your chance to go on a guided tour if it’s an option on an open day. It’s a great opportunity to be shown around the venue by a wedding coordinator, see everything the venue has to offer and ask lots of questions.
Talk to the recommended suppliers
During open days most venues will have some of their recommended suppliers there on the day. If you’re still in the early stages of booking, it’s a great chance to get to know your venue’s recommended suppliers and learn more about what they do – they might even give you some ideas you hadn’t thought of yet!
Get inspired!
Open days are the perfect time to see how a venue would be decorated and dressed for a wedding. It’s a great time to get some inspiration for your wedding day and see how different decorations would work in your venue.
Think about who you take with you
Visiting wedding venues is exciting, especially if you’re revisiting where you’ll be having your big day. It can be tempting to bring along all of your family to show off where you’ll be getting married, however doing so might give you a mix of different opinions. If you’re visiting a venue for the first time, it’s recommended that only you and your partner attend – that way you can get a feel for the venue yourselves. Once you’ve booked your wedding venue, and it comes to showing your loved ones around, it’s recommended a maximum of 4 guests per group – this will ensure you can make sure no one gets lost, and not overwhelmed with different ideas and opinions.
