Notes from The Wood Norton

Tip # 1

Think theme and style

Choosing food to match the theme and style of your wedding will really wow your guests and show that you have thought of each and every detail. For example, if you’re going for vintage a classy high tea may work better than a traditional sit down, and conversely if you’re planning on a more elegant theme then fine dining options would complement perfectly.

Tip # 2

Go seasonal

A warming soup for starter in summer, and strawberries and Pimms during winter just doesn’t work, and wouldn’t be what guests are expecting. Think seasonal when it comes to creating your menu, making sure you take the time to ask your Chef or Caterer for different dish ideas using seasonal ingredients.

Tip # 3

Cater for children

If you have a number of children attending your big day it is always wise to ask parents in advance what their child would prefer – a smaller portion of the adult meal or a different menu altogether. In most, the parents appreciate your concern, and feel better knowing their child will be happy to sit and eat for the duration.

Tip # 4

Think about the schedule

Here at The Wood Norton we always advise our couples to ensure guests do not go more than three hours without any form of food – particularly if you’re saying ‘I do’ around lunch time when the majority wouldn’t have eaten since breakfast. If you do want your wedding breakfast to start a little later, think about serving Canapés and finger food for guests to enjoy with their post-ceremony drinks.

Tip # 5

Tasting sessions

Make sure you arrange a tasting session at least three months before the big day so you have plenty of time to confirm the right dish, and make any changes to the menu if required.
