I love the rich, moody tones in this winter wedding inspiration and Hillersdon House in Devon provides the perfect backdrop. If you’re a bride or groom-to-be currently in search for a Manor House for your celebration then this one might just tick all the boxes. Hillersdon is set in beautiful, secluded grounds perfect for a private and intimate wedding.

Emma says…
The location for our shoot was Hillersdon House as the vibe of this Devonshire venue fitted perfectly to our concept. Providing beautifully paintings for backdrops, multiple rooms and locations to photograph in with details of Georgian décor – divine.
The overall theme was a dark, elegant and intimate winter wedding. The concept was put forward and the stylists main inspiration had been to take the winter style and décor of the house and translate that into a ‘Dutch Old Masters Painting’ feel. Burgundy, navy and metallics made up the gorgeous wintry palette.
The dress worn by model Rebecca was Ovidia by Pronovias provided by The Wedding Company in Plympton. Her hair was styled beautifully in an elegant up-do by Brigitte Fisher and the makeup by Emma Roberts had subtle winter tones.
We didn’t want to distract too much from the house, it’s always best for brides to work with the venue rather than against it. Hillersdon House provides beautiful rooms for dinner, drinks and a ceremony and we simply enhanced its beauty with touches of gold amongst our Burgundy and navy colour scheme.

Amanda Randell’s choice of flowers was influenced by the rich palette, with deep reds across the hue spectrum being predominant with accents of cool blue. Dutch still life paintings portray flowers from different seasons filled with tactile textures, so the flowers were chosen with care and included: Roses, Tuberoses, Tulips, Banksia, Astilbe, Euphorbia and Hydrangea to name a few. The containers continued the look taken from the Baroque design era (c1600 – c1700 AD) which were heavy urns in stone and metals, with the flowers taking on a simple asymmetric form loosely based on the English painter William Hogarth’s love of the S shape. The effect was rich and promising with a more current natural garden styling giving a more informal quality within the sumptuous setting.
Edible Essence created a stunning cake display with a 3-tiered main cake and displays of smaller cakes in a dark inky blue with burgundy and ivory flowers.
