Kiran & Aidan’s Fusion Sami Tipi Wedding

by Caitlin Hoare
Images by Darren Cresswell Photography.
Sami Tipi’s versatile giant hat structures serve as the perfect blank canvas for a whole host of events. But this summer it was Kiran and Aidan’s turn, for their incredible Scottish Asian fusion wedding.

The beautiful blend of the K&A’s heritages is inspired – from the Bhangra drummers and traditional Indian dress, to the bagpipes and kilts. It’s a joyful summer celebration and I couldn’t love it more.

Notes from Sami Tipi

Abi says…

The wedding was originally booked back in March 2020 by Aidan as a surprise for Kiran, with Aidan’s Dad Stan doing a lot of the planning in order to keep it a secret, including Stan organising everything through the dreaded COVID-19 postponements!

They chose Walton on the Wold’s Cricket Club as their venue and our three giant hat tipis to celebrate in. As a lot of their family live in the Leicestershire area, it was a convenient spot for everyone, as well as being stunning.

With Aidan’s Scottish heritage, he and the groomsmen wore traditional Scottish kilts and tartan. They all looked incredible, especially considering they were wearing all those layers in the extreme heat wave!

Kiran wore a stunning long sleeve sequin dress for the ceremony and reception which she then changed into a more flowy number to be a bit more relaxed for the evening party. All of the bride’s family wore traditional Indian dress. They all differed slightly, but colour matched perfectly to the same stunning shade of green, matching the colour theme and styling throughout the day.

Kiran and Aidan hired Tara of Tara Knott Styled Events to create their styling vision. They had a dark shade of green and white as their main colour combinations, keeping all the styling very traditional and simplistic. Finished off with classic white stationery, signage and table numbers.

They created their outdoor ceremony area opposite the tipis, with a triangular ceremony arch to mirror the tipis. Decorated with gorgeous flowers that was then used as a perfect photo backdrop. The flowers were by Emily Wisher. She followed the colour brief perfectly, with lots of green foliage and white florals, with a few traditional Scottish thistles thrown in too. She also created two hanging floral hoops that were positioned above the guests tables in the tipis, making the perfect statement pieces.

The cake was done by The Sweet Stuff, and was a classic three tier white cake with colourful sweet treats including green macarons, cake pops and brownies to go alongside. For the wedding breakfast delicious curries were served with various sides by Roti & Co. Followed later by the evening food which was fish and chips and wood-fired pizza so there really was something for everyone.

The photographer was the brilliant Darren Cresswell Photography. He has captured lots of weddings in our tipis so knows all the tricks to get the lighting just right and is super talented at getting those show-stopping photos. In fact, his evening photos of the fireworks are just spectacular.

With this wedding being a Scottish Asian fusion, there were lots of individual nods to the heritages of both sides of the family. Especially with their musical entertainment. They had a Scottish bagpipe performer playing as everyone entered the tipis for the reception and wedding breakfast. Then for the evening party they hired Punjabi DJs Infiniti Roadshow and Bhangra drummers The Percussionists to get everyone up on the dance floor. It was so entertaining, so classy, and so much fun! Everyone was up on the dance floor having an amazing time. To end the evening they had an incredible firework display, which was truly spectacular.
