Nature’s Colour Palette at The Hall Barns

Written by Caitlin Hoare
With a brief of ‘earthy, natural and muted’ and a team of industry talent behind it you just know it’s going to be a good ‘un!

Today’s editorial was designed, planned and captured by Safrina Smith Photography who took direct inspiration from the venue, The Hall Barns, and its glorious surroundings on the Prestwold Estate in Leicestershire. The colour palette was formed using tones and shades exclusively found in nature, the florals were organic, wild and abundant but the overall vibe is modern, relaxed and ultra chic.

Get ready to pin with abandon… this one is right up my strasse, and I reckon it will be yours too!

Notes from the Photographer

Safrina says…

The Hall Barns is a lovingly renovated 19th-century barn nestled in a secluded spot of the Prestwold Estate. The old stables at The Hall Barns created a beautifully intimate backdrop for the shoot. The original features massively influenced the styling and we pulled our inspiration from the textures and materials in the space.

At the heart of this editorial was the desire to take natural and earthy styling and elevate it…to create an elegant and luxury theme that is in tune with the surroundings of the venue, pulling directly from nature’s colour palette.

When choosing a couple to model for this shoot, it was important to us that whoever we chose, they would be madly in love. Gracey and Annie embodied our theme perfectly – their love tangible and the way they interact with each other reflecting the intimate feel of the styling and venue.

Integral to the shoot, our dress boutique, Wedding Belles Bridal, provided dresses that not only complimented each other but embodied the theme with lace detailing and textures that mirrored other aspects of the styling. But it wasn’t just the dresses that reflected the theme – from the handmade, sustainably produced minimalist jewellery by Muted Luxe to the natural, wavy hairstyles and soft glam makeup, every element of the shoot was integral to the finished look.

The styling by The Two Hummingbirds was kept somewhat monochromatic, pulling only from the colours found in nature. From the neutral and muted elements within the fabrics to the crockery, they all merged perfectly to form the finished look. Artful placement and a focus on composition was carried across from the table design to the cake by TSP Cake (which was a moment in itself!) When combining these details with the meadow-like grasses that formed the aisle leading to the table, The Hall Barns felt like an extension of its surroundings.

Our florist, Dittany Entwined, combined grasses, reeds and palms to create arrangements that could have been growing straight through the floor. This organic approach to the arrangements was a key element of the shoot.

If this shoot inspires you to do anything, let it be to pull inspiration from your venue – what are its characteristics? What colours are dominant in the space? What is the vibe/atmosphere like when you walk in? This organic and intimate inspiration could be used in a huge variety of venues. A minimal colour palette doesn’t have to look dull, when done in harmony with your venue it can truly elevate your styling.
