Kate & Tom’s Wedding at Old Palace Chester

Written by Caitlin Hoare
I’ve long admired and swooned over Old Palace Chester, so today, I’m overjoyed to share a full, real wedding from this magnificent venue.

Kate and Tom tied the knot with an uber-glamorous spring celebration back in April of this year. Their day featured the most beautiful peachy florals by Rock and Meadow, bridesmaids in elegant champagne, and a dress change for the gorgeous bride before hitting the dance floor. I LOVE that Kate cites her biggest highlight as getting ready with her best friends and daughter (oh, and marrying Tom, obvs)! Those precious quiet moments with your fave ones really are some of the most special.

Their chosen venue is a dream setting for a glam, fairy-tale wedding, so keep scrolling for all the inspo on how to design your own day at this exclusive, luxury wedding venue in the heart of historic Chester.

Notes from the Bride

Kate says…

It was the first venue we saw, and we immediately fell in love with it. We actually ended up cancelling all our other viewings because we knew we wanted Old Palace Chester. It’s grand but not too big, the decor is amazing, and the staff are *so* helpful. On the day, we had Georgie guiding us through everything. She was incredible! It’s literally like having another bridesmaid. She helped my bridesmaids with their dresses and me into mine with her little white gloves on so as not to mark the dress. They were the perfect combination of professional and friendly.

I tried on about 15 dresses, many of which weren’t the style I had initially pictured for myself. I always knew I wanted something simple with a slit, but I had no real vision of what it looked like. The dress I chose was the last one I tried on, and I knew it was the one because I didn’t want to take it off! The girls at Elizabeth Louise Bridal Boutique were amazing and let me try the dress on a few times to look at it with different accessories and my shoes. My veil was something I’d never seen before, and I fell in love with it immediately. It went well with my dress and completed the look.

I also had a dress change before the cake-cutting and first dance. I loved my big day dress but wanted something shorter, fun, and non-restrictive for the dance floor. My evening dress was from Oh Polly. I swapped out my veil for an oversized bow and changed my heels, too. I love the second dress idea; it’s definitely becoming more popular. You only get this day once, and I wanted to make the most of it.

I did most of the venue styling myself, including sourcing the candles for the tables. However, my gorgeous florist was the highlight for me. I wanted the flowers to be the main feature, and she didn’t disappoint. This was her biggest wedding to date! The theme was a soft palette, traditional but not dated, and classic. Everyone has said that tone commented on the florals. Rock and Meadow gave me everything I asked for and more. I showed her all my inspiration pictures, and she put them together—it was perfect!

Coco Lily Cakes provided our cake, which was simple but amazing. Everyone loved it! The catering was all from the Old Palace, and everyone commented how lovely the food was.

Finally, we can’t thank Chelsey Photography enough. We’re obsessed with our pictures, love her style, and how discreet she is. I didn’t want anything too formal, and she nailed it. She even took some fun film photos during my dress change.

Best part of the day

Getting ready with my best friends and little girl and dancing the night away… (And marrying Tom)!

From one couple to another…

It’s all worth it.
