Deonne & Chris: Luxe Yet Laid-back Shoreditch Wedding at Kachette

by Caitlin Hoare
Images by Charlotte Rebecca Photography.
It was a luxe yet laid-back East London wedding for Deonne & Chris.

Urban, industrial, and quintessentially East London, Kachette—tucked away in the former ticket hall of Shoreditch Railway Station—was their venue of choice. Formed from Victorian railway arches, this stylish warehouse venue is perfect for couples seeking a contemporary alternative to the traditional wedding setting—exactly what Deonne and Chris envisioned! With exposed brick walls, original features, and a spiral staircase, Kachette is the epitome of cool in one of London’s most diverse boroughs.

Married by a friend and surrounded by simple yet striking baby’s breath arrangements, this pair’s black-tie wedding looked stunning against Kachette’s laid-back industrial vibe. Add in newlywed photos around Shoreditch, an atmospheric dining experience, and a packed dance floor, and it’s safe to say this was one of the biggest and best parties of their lives.

London couples, this one’s for you…

The Venue

We didn’t feel a traditional wedding venue really suited us. We wanted something that felt very London and laidback, and when we first visited Kachette, we knew it was the one right away. It was also just around the corner from where we started our relationship ten years ago!

We fell in love with the exposed brickwork and original tube station tiles. The old station clock is also very cool; several of our guests commented on it on the day.

The Fashion

I wanted a timeless, simple dress, so I chose one by Trish Peng from Halo & Wren. I wore it with Monsoon shoes; they were so comfortable that I managed to keep them on until I went to bed!

I didn’t want the bridesmaids to match, so they all chose their own dresses from various high-street stores. The brief was just that they had to be black. We told our guests that it was an optional black tie. We liked the idea of having a formal dress against the laid-back, cool venue.

Dream Day Artistry, a London-based MUA, did the hair and makeup for the bride and bridesmaids. She was fab, and my makeup lasted all day!

The groom wore a black tux, a velvet jacket from Moss Bros., and shoes from Marks & Spencer. The groomsmen were just given the brief of a black tux!

The Décor & Flowers

We didn’t do much on the decor front because we didn’t feel the venue needed it. The exposed brick and old tiles gave us everything we needed, so we just wanted to keep it simple.

We had the amazing Halcyon Halcyon do our flowers. We chose them only a couple of months before the wedding. They were so accommodating with our request and so lovely to work with. We just wanted simple baby’s breath for all bouquets, a feature for the ceremony, and table flowers. They all looked so stunning.

The Food & Drink

Luckily, the groom’s mum is a fantastic baker, so she made our two-tier wedding cake! It was so big that we managed to take some on our mini-moon to France, too, which was handy for the journey.

Our caterers were Cater London. They provided an amazing family-sharing-style feast, which was a real hit. We particularly loved the canapés they circulated during the post-ceremony drinks reception.

The Photographer

Our photographer was the lovely Charlotte Rebecca Photography. Charlotte was so warm and lovely. We really don’t enjoy having our photos taken, but she immediately put us at ease. We had a free engagement shoot as part of our package, which was a great experience. It was also nice that on the big day, we had already met Charlotte in person, so it almost felt like a friend turning up!

From One Couple to Another

We both loved the ceremony. We had our friend marry us, which was so special. He did a great job; we loved every second of it, even when he told some slightly embarrassing stories!

Our words of wisdom for planning a wedding would be not to try to please everyone; it just isn’t going to happen. People always want to give their opinion even when you haven’t asked, but you need to focus on what is important to you as a couple. Also, don’t panic about things not going right. It will still be the most perfect day, and honestly, you won’t even notice!
