Botanical Wedding Inspiration in Highcliffe Castle’s Wintergarden

Written by Emma Hla
When we shared this incredible space on our Instagram you folks loved it.

Nestled between the border of Dorset and Hampshire, Highcliffe Castle majestically looks overs the Isle of Wight from its cliff-top location. Known for its French masonry and gothic revival features, this Grade I listed Castle contains tales of royalty, ruin, and restoration. Highcliffe Castle now provides an idyllic location for you to create your own unique story, one that will be treasured for years to come.

We’re taking a closer look at the beautiful Wintergarden today with this botanical inspiration.

Notes from the Venue

The vision for the shoot was to create a fresh, leafy, botanical garden vibe. This was achieved by using amazing white-stemmed birch trees, some bay topiary and ferns and a stunning jasmine archway. The combination of sustainability and an aesthetically sympathetic setting has been achieved beautifully with this combination of trees and living plants, perfect for the eco-conscious couple.

The stripped back greenery compliments the light and airy Wintergarden making it the perfect solution for couples who want the feel of an outdoor ceremony but don’t fancy taking their chances with the British weather.

With the Wintergarden providing seating for up to 110 guests, Swingletree Events made perfect use of the large space and the gorgeous chiavari chairs with simple and elegant sashing and hurricane lantern styling. Arrangements of Hydrangeas, Ferns and Damson Dahlias with green apples continue the vision throughout the Wintergarden room.

We really wanted to create something truly magical – light, airy and ethereal but also delivering our vision that connected the venue to the gardens, bringing the outside in, by using real, native trees, arches and natural foraged greenery, fruit and florals! – Debbie, Whitestem

In keeping with the botanical inspiration for the day, the floral motif on this stunning Exclusively Yours Bridal Boutique dress beautifully compliments the green foliage and living plants that filled the Wintergarden. The natural free-flowing style the dress provides also made for the perfection continuation of the days theme both inside and outside of the Castle.

The photographers on this shoot were spoilt for choice. Not only with the beautifully dressed bride and Wintergarden, but also with the dramatic backdrop of Highcliffe Castle itself. With its medieval and renaissance carved stone, the Castle makes for some truly impactful after ceremony photo opportunities for you and your loved ones.

Overall, we really enjoyed this shoot and we always love to see how different the space can look once a couple has put their own personal stamp on it.
