An Alfresco Garden Brunch at Swanton Morley House & Gardens

Written by Emma Hla
With abundant lush green spaces, Swanton Morley House & Gardens beckoned with its natural allure, promising many choices to set and style this dreamy tablescape.

Penny at Synched Events envisioned a backdrop that exuded organic splendour, and Katy at Bracken & Twine artfully integrated seasonal flowers and foliage from the venue grounds, adorning vessels and bud bottles, crafting the perfect tableau for an alfresco post-wedding brunch.

Notes from the Stylist

Penny says…

We chose Swanton Morley Gardens for the many luscious green spaces the venue boasts; we knew we’d be spoiled for choice for where to set and style our tablescape in the grounds. We wanted a very green and organic backdrop to set up in. Katy at Bracken & Twine also worked with seasonal flowers and foliage from the venue grounds to fill some of the vessels and bud bottles, making it the perfect choice.

The theme was to create a relaxed alfresco tablescape with a slight Tuscan nod with large filled Mediterranean ceramic pots, olive and mustard colour touches, slabs of stone and marble candle holders, and wood and stone mixed vessels in abundance, creating lots of interest through the table centre. Sustainability is crucial with locally sourced florals and foliage, which are seasonal.

We went for a very soft base of different fabrics on the table and layered with stone pots in biscuit, whites and then the touches of olive and mustard through the candles and napkin with touches of dirty pink on the stationery.

I loved the chance to be creative and work with mixing lots of textures and throwing out the rule book to style the table – adding height off-centre on the table with a larger arrangement and grouping candles in clusters, and then using lots of little bottles and making so many little pockets of interest for guests to find while dining. Creating interest in front of and behind the table with large pots set the scene for the table and made it much more inviting. Each place setting was layered, too, with embroidered napkins, beautiful luxurious printed stationery, and velvet tag names on an agate slice.

Katy at Bracken & Twine used Spring seasonal flowers and foliage, some cut from just around the table, working with a mix of blossom, tulips, and narcissi with a few primulas and white bluebells dotted.

This would be wonderful for a wedding setting, focusing on seasonal foliage and flowers locally sourced around your venue. A neutral and organic feel to styling the tables, each table a little different from the one before. The large pots would lend well to create a stunning ceremony focus before the meal.
