Evoking Ophelia and Lady of the Lake with a modern storytelling twist, it draws on the Pre-Raphaelite tradition – ethereal figures, fluid fabrics, and lush, naturalistic details – all brought to life through beautiful lighting and layered textures. The venue’s historic spaces provide the perfect canvas for a contemporary reinterpretation, and we think you’ll love the rich autumnal tones and unexpected sculptural details.

We created this editorial at the beautiful Birdsall House, a venue that perfectly blends history and charm. Our goal was to show how a space with so much heritage can be reimagined with a modern touch, balancing timeless elegance and contemporary style. Inspired by the textures and stories within the house, we used deep greens and browns to bring a rich, modern vibrancy to its classic character.

The overall theme of the editorial was a contemporary interpretation of timeless elegance, blending modern design with the rich heritage of Birdsall. We wanted to show how a historic venue can be styled with a fresh, fashion-forward edge while maintaining its classic charm. A palette of deep brown and olive green set the tone, evoking an earthy yet luxurious feel, while layers of texture played a key role.

The tablescape combined satin fabrics with natural, sculptural elements, such as asparagus and cauliflower, adding an unexpected organic touch that tied beautifully into the early autumn season. The result was a look that felt refined, creative, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
The colour palette was a rich blend of deep brown and olive green, accented with soft neutrals and touches of ivory. These tones were chosen to echo the warmth and texture of early autumn, creating a look that feels both grounded and luxurious. The palette perfectly suited the September season.

The fashion was all about modern sophistication with a nod to classic bridal elegance. The bride’s sleek, structured gown featured clean lines and luxurious fabric, perfectly complementing the grand yet contemporary setting. The minimalist silhouette allowed the details like statement accessories and soft, natural hair and makeup to take centre stage.
The groom’s look was timeless yet modern, pairing a sharp black tuxedo with a relaxed, confident style that perfectly matched the editorial’s refined mood. Together, their looks created a balance of tradition and trend, effortlessly blending into the elegant, fashion-forward aesthetic of the day.

The decor and styling were designed to highlight the grandeur and heritage of the house while introducing a fresh, contemporary edge. We drew inspiration from the venue’s rich textures and history, layering deep brown and forest green fabrics across the tables to create a sense of movement and luxury. Candlelight added warmth and intimacy, contrasting beautifully with the bold, sculptural tablescape. Natural elements, like asparagus, cauliflower, and hydrangea, were incorporated to bring texture and an organic, seasonal feel.

Our florist, Sophie, brought our vision to life with designs that celebrated texture, form, and creativity. Instead of traditional bouquets, we used floral clutches — modern, wearable arrangements that felt more like statement accessories than traditional flowers. The designs combined hydrangeas, figs, grapes, asparagus, and cauliflower, creating sculptural compositions that blurred the line between fashion and nature. The result was a look that felt elegant and artistic.

Couples can draw inspiration from this editorial by embracing the idea of blending old-world charm with modern style. It shows how a historic or traditional venue can feel completely refreshed through thoughtful styling choices like rich, seasonal tones, layered textures, and a mix of natural and sculptural details.
Instead of following trends, focus on creating a look that feels personal and timeless. Play with unexpected materials such as fruits, vegetables, or unique florals to add depth and individuality, and consider reimagining classic elements like carrying a floral clutch instead of a bouquet for a creative twist. Above all, it’s about curating a day that feels authentic, stylish, and true to your story while honouring the character of your venue.
