Woodhill Park is a Grade II listed Georgian estate in the Shropshire countryside, where lawns give way to 156 acres of parkland. A restored glasshouse, woodland amphitheatre and walled gardens offer different perspectives on the grounds, from broad views across the estate to smaller spaces among the flowers.
In the walled gardens, Lord Harlech once planted a rose garden to welcome his friends, John F. Kennedy, Jacqueline, and Bobby Kennedy, to Woodhill Park. Although the original garden is long gone, new planting continues its story. Thousands of spring bulbs and more than 250 roses grow alongside peonies, dahlias, lavender and hydrangea hedges, with apple, pear, damson, plum, walnut and mulberry trees adding to the gardens.
The gardens and amphitheatre offer two distinct ceremony settings. In the woodland amphitheatre, sweeping views over the historic parkland give the gathering an open, generous backdrop.
For something more intimate, the Sundial Walk sits beneath Tai Haku Great White Cherry trees, between pale pink and white David Austin roses, nepeta, lavender and peonies.
These outdoor settings place the estate’s grounds at the centre of the occasion.
Rustic beams and chandeliers set the scene in the Jasmine Room, which accommodates up to 70 guests for a seated reception or 135 for a cocktail party. The adjoining courtyard provides additional outdoor seating, letting the celebration extend beyond the dining space.
For larger gatherings, a marquee can sit within the landscaped parkland or wildflower meadows. The estate can share details of trusted marquee suppliers, so you can choose a size and style that suits your plans.
From drinks in the courtyard to dinner beneath the beams, the spaces offer different ways to bring everyone together. The team can discuss evening arrangements, including dancing and live music.
A stay in Camellia Cottage is included for the night before and the night of the wedding. Newly renovated, the spacious one-bedroom cottage combines velvets and Bertioli fabrics with furniture from Neptune, Oka and Andrew Martin. A log fire, large shower and bath make it a comfortable place to spend the hours either side of the celebration.
Additional accommodation on the estate can be discussed with the team. Guests can also stay within approximately seven to 15 minutes of Woodhill Park, and the venue can supply a list.
Further cottage renovations form part of the estate’s ongoing plans in collaboration with Neptune by the Georgian House.
Woodhill Park offers a range of catering options, with The Great Catering Company available to provide sample menus and bespoke suggestions. Private dining can take place indoors or in the gardens, giving smaller meals before or after the wedding their own setting.
Alternatively, the estate can provide a list of trusted caterers, including Comyn Bruce, The Cheshire Dining Experience and Vanilla in Allseasons. A separate kitchen provides equipment for caterers, along with crockery, cutlery, and stemware.
Presenter Amelia Singer curated the wine list, referencing the Kennedy family’s favourite vintages and cocktails that reflect the estate’s historical connections. Menus and drinks can be discussed as part of the plans.
Restoration and planting are central to Woodhill Park’s approach to caring for the estate. The walled gardens have been restored, while orchards and wildflower meadows have been planted to support biodiversity across the grounds.
The estate prioritises organic practices and sympathetic land management, alongside reducing its environmental impact wherever possible. Its wider ethos also combines physical and mental wellbeing with community involvement, including charity events.
Paths through the woods support activities such as forest bathing and guided meditation. Together with the garden restoration and new planting, these form part of the estate’s continuing investment in the land and its use.
Woodhill Park sits around a 10-minute drive from Oswestry, surrounded by countryside walks and bridle paths. Guests extending their stay can explore Oswestry Hillfort or join the Offa’s Dyke Path, while Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall, and Powys Castle offer more options for a day out.
For time outdoors, Pistyll Rhaeadr and Lake Vyrnwy are both about 45 minutes away. Llanymynech Golf Club and Penycoed Horse Riding are closer, about 14 and 15 minutes away, respectively.
Shrewsbury is approximately 36 minutes from the estate. Groups can also arrange clay pigeon shooting at Woodhill, giving another reason to spend more time together before heading home.
Woodhill Park Estate is in the application process for licenses.
We are thrilled to be collaborating with Neptune by the Georgian House on the renovation of our six cottages. In the meantime, there are many accommodation options within 7-15 minutes, and we are happy to share our recommendations.
