We are delighted to be able to show couples around Walthamstow Wetlands in person again. If you’d like to arrange a site visit, please do let us know and we can check our diary for you. If you would feel more comfortable chatting over a video call, this is of course not a problem at all. Although masks are no longer essential indoors, we ask if couples could let us know prior to their wedding day if they would prefer staff to wear masks when inside the building.
Built in 1894, the Engine House at Walthamstow Wetlands is a unique heritage destination which has been recently redeveloped to combine its original architectural features with modern amenities. Situated on Europe’s largest urban wetlands reserve, the Engine House can host spectacular weddings with stunning views across the reservoirs of Walthamstow Wetlands and the London skyline itself.
Managed by the London Wildlife Trust, all profits raised from the private hire of their venues is reinvested into preserving London’s urban wildlife, in order to ensure London is a city where everyone can experience and enjoy wildlife.
Couples can enjoy the breath of fresh air in nature whilst being only 15 minutes from central London with a number of transport links on the doorstep. Guests are welcome to arrive via car with onsite parking available, or alternatively, Tottenham Hale Overground and Tube Station is a short 10 minute walk away.
Start your wedding day in the light and airy Turbine Room where your ceremony will take place, this blank canvas space has many original features of The Engine House.
Following on from the ceremony, guests can head up to the Mezzanine where they can enjoy unobstructed views of the stunning reservoirs with a glass of bubbly on the balcony. Why not take this time to explore the wetlands and capture your picture perfect moments!
The Triple Engine Room will be magnificently transformed into your dinner space where you can indulge in food and drink from The Larder. Guests can then move on to the Boiler Room to dance the night away.
Combining the industrial feel of The Engine House steeped in history, with the reservoirs surrounded by wildlife, Walthamstow Wetlands is the perfect place to say ‘I do’.
We encourage all guests to go out and enjoy a walk on the beautiful nature reserve. We recommend making time for this in the wedding schedule either before the ceremony or straight after. This allows time for you to take pictures too! However once your drinks reception commences or the reserve closes to the public (whichever is first) for security reasons there will be no further access to the reserve for any guests.
Guests may use dried flower petals only but we request this is only thrown outside the building.
You can decorate the interior areas with flowers, candles (in holders), fairy lights, bunting and free standing props. For environmental reasons we do not allow balloons, fireworks or glitter.
There are no speakers or music systems built in to any of the rooms. You may provide your own but please check on your show round the nearest available plug sockets.
We do allow bands and DJs; they would need to provide all their own equipment, lighting and sound systems. We recommend they come to the venue for a pre-visit to make sure the set up and electrical sockets are adequate. They must also take all kit away with them on the night of the event as there is no storage space within the venue. Please note the sound limit is 90 decibels.
