The Setting
Trinity House is set in an excellent location on Tower Hill, overlooking the serene Trinity Square Gardens. The venue boasts splendid views of the Tower of London, especially when the trees are bare in winter. In the evenings, the Tower is beautifully lit up, adding to the dramatic scenery. The venue is easily accessible, with several nearby transport hubs, such as Tower Hill, Aldgate, Fenchurch, DLR rail stations, and the City of London Airport.
The Vibe
Upon entering Trinity House, guests are greeted by the grand Reception Hall, a space behind iron railings and cobblestone paths. A unique twin-curved staircase leads to the grand stairwell, showcasing an impressive trompe l’oeil dome ceiling. The first-floor ‘Quarterdeck’ corridor features marble columns and maritime artefacts, including the brass bell of the Royal Yacht Britannia.
The Library is the largest room, accommodating 130 seated or 180 standing guests. It boasts a Minstrels’ Gallery, historic stained-glass windows, a display of silver artefacts, and stunning crystal chandeliers. Two adjoining rooms, the Reading and Pepys Rooms, offer additional space, with the Pepys Room perfect for dancing.
The Court Room can accommodate 60 seated or 130 standing guests for a pre-ceremony reception or an intimate civil wedding. Distinguishing features of the room are the magnificent nautical trompe l’oeil high ceiling and large single-loom carpet featuring the traditional arms of The Corporation of Trinity House. Imposing paintings of royalty dot the walls, and a working fireplace adds a cosy ambience in winter months. The adjoining Luncheon Room has a capacity of 40 standing (20 seated), allowing additional flexibility.
Trinity House blends history and heritage with elegance and intimacy. As a Grade I-listed building, it feels like a grand private Georgian residence. The tall sash windows in the main rooms allow plenty of light during the day and offer dramatic views of the Tower of London in the evening.
The venue’s rich maritime history is proudly reflected in various items throughout, a testament to its role as the working home of the General Lighthouse Authority of England and Wales. Despite being reconstructed after damage during World War II, Trinity House maintains its historical charm, a living testament to the past.
Trinity House has been the trusted host of private events for three decades, making it a discerning choice for weddings and prestigious occasions. The venue’s experienced event management team offers meticulous oversight and support, including a Blue Badge historian for a building history tour.
