What a perfect venue! Cheryl and David have done an absolutely amazing job renovating the estate into the amazing venue it is now. When we first viewed the venue in September 2020, it was a building site, with no floors and was basically a shell. It was a bit of a gamble, but it really paid off! The finish of the barn and all the accommodation is very high end. We loved the flexibility of the venue, with a number of options of how a wedding could be run from using the barn / hiring a marquee / using the boathouse and getting married outside. The grounds were a big selling point for us with Town Head having large grounds and even its own private beach overlooking Lake Windermere.
This allowed us to have a wedding morning swim in the lake with our guests and get married outside overlooking the shores of Lake Windermere. We also managed to have an activity day with our guests the day after the wedding, with yoga in the boathouse and watersports (we hired ourselves) on the lake.
It was brilliant to be able to have all our close family staying on site allowing us to spend more time with them before, during and after the wedding and an accessible room for my grandparents. Cheryl and her second in command Nessa could not have been more helpful before, on and after the big day! Thank you everyone at Town Head Estate for making our wedding day so special and memorable.
The Perfect Winter Wedding
Town Head Estate is a dream! The venue is gorgeous, and the quality of the barn and cottages is perfect – they are so well cared for.
The staff (I have to particularly call out Beth!) are lovely and welcoming as well as incredibly knowledgeable they went above and beyond helping us with recommendations on suppliers and making suggestions to help the day run smoothly
Married December 2024
WOW, there are no words! We booked the TH for our wedding whilst it was a building site, why you say? Because we had every faith in Cheryl’s vision of the final product! We 100% made the right decision! We had originally booked to have our ceremony in the boat house on lake Windermere but on the morning of the wedding it was raining and I mean RAINING! Cheryl asked me due to this and the walk down to the boathouse would we like our ceremony in the barn. We are truly thankful of this offer as it ended up being perfect! Even thinking about it now makes me emotional at how amazing it was. The stone walls of the building and adjoining to our reception area along with the gorgeous ambience of the lighting made it truly romantic! Even though the rain was non stop all day we feel it added to the vibe of our boho relaxed wedding and the photos are truly stunning.
Tanya was our planner for the day and nothing was too big nor small of an ask! She did a wonderful job running around making sure everything was just perfect! If we could marry here again we would in a heartbeat and I truly hope one day we can renew our wedding at this gorgeous estate! Before the wedding when locals asked where we were getting married they stated it as the ‘new and exclusive’ place to get married and they were so right! Also if we had known how gorgeous the bridal cottage would end up being we would of booked to stay here too as it’s stunning, the attention to detail has the true wow factor and the bridal suite for getting ready was divine! Thank you all at TH for giving us the intimate wedding we had dreamt of!
We truly couldn’t have chosen a better venue and Tanya is an absolute superstar. Experience – Our experience at town head was fantastic from start to finish, and the arrival of an unprecedented snowstorm made us truly appreciate how wonderful Tanya and the team are. Without them, much of our wedding would not have been possible. Just after our guests arrived, roads were shut, cars were abandoned, and people were stranded – including our registrar! But the town headed to the rescue and rescued her by tractor! If this wasn’t enough, they later ferried all our guests in a truck back to their homes and hotels as it was nearly impossible for them to get home. Without them, we would have had over 70 stranded guests sleeping in the wedding barn! What made their efforts more admirable was that the wedding party really had no clue how snowed in we really were as they calmly ensured all celebrations continued without a hitch! We don’t think we could ever thank them enough and will always thank them for going above and beyond to make our day so special. Tanya made us feel relaxed from the moment we arrived, and nothing was too much trouble. The venue – Absolutely stunning. Set on the edge of the lake with the entire estate to ourselves and our guests. Many location options for the ceremony/cocktail hour/ reception/ photos come rain or shine! We opted for the wedding barn as it was December, it was just perfect. The accommodation – The three cottages and bridal cottage (all beautiful) meant family and the bridal party could all stay on site the evening before and the night of the wedding. The hot tubs were the icing on the cake; I never felt more relaxed – perfect pre-wedding pamper. The bridal suite – Such a lovely large room adjoining the bridal cottage for the bridal (or groom’s) party to get ready! Dog-friendly – We couldn’t get married without our pooch Sulley, so this was a great option for including him in our day! Again thank you Tanya and the team, I couldn’t recommend them more.
Married April 2024
I can’t recommend Town Head enough for anyone looking for a beautiful place to get married! We had our wedding here in September 2021 and it was absolutely perfect. The barn, the grounds and the accommodation are all gorgeous and have been so well thought through. And the team at Town Head are incredible, nothing is too much to ask for and made our day run so smoothly. We loved having the place to ourselves Friday – Sunday, it really made it feel like a little wedding village and there’s so many options if you want to use the hot tubs, go for a boat trip or water sports to make your weekend a bit different! I wish we could get married every year just so we could come back for a weekend, we loved it that much! Cheryl and Team Town Head – thank you again, you’ve honestly created the most beautiful venue.
Such a beautiful venue with amazing accommodation. The best I’ve seen in the area by far! Memories are made here.
When we looked at Town Head Estate last year as a possible wedding venue, it was still very much a building site. But we instantly fell in love with the location and the ability for guests to sleep there, having access to lake Windermere for a swim, gorgeous land which can be used in so many different ways and a really romantic greenhouse. Cheryl showed us around and explained all of her ideas for the place – from the bridal suite to the hot tubs and a jetty by the lake. She had it completely figured out. In the end it was clear for us that Town Head was it!
We were lucky enough to get a weekend booking and our wedding took place in September ’21 with the venue exactly how it had been described to us. The beautiful ceremony barn, the on-site accommodation, the boathouse, the bar and everything else was perfect.
Throughout the planning process, Cheryl has been extremely patient, friendly and helpful, making sure we felt comfortable with everything she did. I think we may have won the prize for asking the most questions in the lead up – but to every question, Cheryl had an answer or a solution (i.e. plans for rain, sign for ceremony music to start, where to best serve cocktails, the list goes on). She also put us in touch with other suppliers and was genuinely a great sound board for the plans we had in mind. This really put us at ease and we felt relaxed and excited when the weekend finally came.
The day ran smoothly with the help of Cheryl and the team who were there to make sure everything was going well, which was hugely appreciated.
All in all, we 100% recommend this venue which, due to the lovely owners, amazing location and perfectly renovated barns/accommodation – the ideal place to get married!
I got married here and it was beyond perfect. The venue, setting, staff and even value for money were all 11/10 and I couldn’t recommend them enough.
The best day of our lives!
We cannot thank Beth and the rest of the team at Town Head enough for making our day so perfect. From the moment we first saw the venue and booked our wedding day, they have been there to make sure everything would be exactly what we wanted and more. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, even in the pouring rain in December! We are so lucky to have been able to get married there and just wish we could relive the day over and over again. Once again, thank you for everything!
Married December 2024
My son and daughter-in-law recently held their wedding here, it was such a stunning venue with the hosts doing everything they could to see that it all went smoothly, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation is so well equipped and beautifully decorated it was a delight to stay there. I highly recommend this venue and I’m sure that whatever occasion you are there for, you will not be disappointed. Thank you again.
We held our wedding here only a week ago. It was unbelievable! The grounds are beyond beautiful. The cottages are a home away from home. The lake is literally on the door step and we made the most of it. The dining room / barn is so beautiful it doesn’t really need decorating. The staff are incredibly friendly special mentions to Val & Callum. Huge thank you to all involved.
No need to hire furniture. Round tables, rustic trestles, oak cross-backed chairs, and other pieces like a cable drum for cakes and a restored sewing table for registrars are included. The lounge, bar, and terrace areas are fully furnished, with all furniture included in the venue hire. If you have a specific style in mind, you can hire your own. On-site accommodation includes fully equipped kitchens. For your wedding in the Barn, glassware, wine coolers, and water jugs are provided. Contact Karen Rhodes Catering for additional items like crockery, linen, and a cake knife.
Yes, we do, and yes, it can. The bar is fully licensed, opening at a time to suit you on your wedding day (no earlier than 11am) and closing at midnight. We are also happy to open the bar the night before the wedding for you and your guests by prior arrangement. We would just ask that you give us at least two weeks' notice so that we can arrange appropriate staffing.
We offer a fully stocked bar and an excellent wine list at competitive prices. Custom drinks packages are available, and we're happy to source specific requests. You're welcome to bring your own wine and fizz for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast, subject to corkage fees: £10 per wine bottle, £15 per prosecco, and £25 per champagne. Limits are two glasses of fizz per person for the reception, one glass for the toast, and half a bottle of wine per person for the breakfast. Our bar will be open throughout the day.
We've taken advice to ensure the Barn is perfectly set up for your style. Instead of covering it in fairy lights, we've opted for a subtle touch, lighting the walls and beams, leaving the creative decor to you. The ceiling features RGB lights that can be set to any colour, including a scrolling party effect. Hidden power points and a wire for decorations are available, but the rest is up to you. The Barn is stunning as is, but you have the freedom to make it your own.
Yes. Outdoor ceremonies are currently permitted under UK law (although these rules may be amended) providing the venue is licensed and has nominated specific areas that fall within that license. The outdoor areas currently under our wedding license are The Terrace outside the Barn, the Orchard and the Band Stand, the Kitchen Gardens, the Croquet Lawn, the lake shore and the marquee pitch.
