Thornton Manor stands with quiet grandeur in the village of Thornton Hough, surrounded by the rolling fields and parkland of the Wirral Peninsula. This Grade II* listed Elizabethan-style house is the heart of a historic estate that feels deeply rooted in the English countryside yet remains within easy reach of nearby towns and cities. Its manicured gardens and timeless architecture lend a sense of occasion to every celebration.
Inside, the Manor blends period detail with thoughtful modern touches. Each room tells its own story, from carved oak panelling to sweeping staircases; over the years, the estate has hosted some of the region’s finest celebrations, continuing a long tradition of gatherings.
Thornton Manor offers a choice of ceremony spaces:
Indoors, The Library provides an intimate setting for up to 60 guests, while The Garden Room accommodates up to 180 guests and is filled with natural light and views of the grounds. For larger gatherings, The Music Room is a grand setting and seats up to 250.
Couples may also choose to exchange vows outdoors for up to 250 guests, surrounded by the estate’s gardens and lawns.
For receptions, Thornton Manor offers exceptional space and flow. Drinks may be served on the lawns or in The Great Hall or Garden Room, where guests can mingle before moving through to The Music Room for the wedding breakfast and evening celebration. This impressive room accommodates up to 250 guests and transitions effortlessly from dining to dancing.
Venue hire includes exclusive use of the Manor House and gardens from 1pm to 12am, with tables, Chiavari chairs, and elegant candelabra centrepieces provided. A sound system for background music and speeches is included, alongside other thoughtful details. Throughout the day, the dedicated wedding coordinator ensures everything runs seamlessly, so couples can simply enjoy the moment.
After the celebrations, newlyweds can retreat to the Bridal Mews – a private space set aside for the couple on their wedding night. 14 on-site cottages across the estate provide elegant accommodation for up to 80 guests, keeping friends and family close by and ensuring a relaxed atmosphere throughout the weekend.
The following morning, The Garden Room is available for a private breakfast with overnight guests, subject to availability. It’s a peaceful way to continue the celebrations and reflect on the day before.
Dining at Thornton Manor is a highlight. Couples can choose between two preferred partners – Moments in Thyme and The Olive Tree – both known for exceptional food and service. Whether an elegant multi-course meal or a more abundant banquet, menus are tailored to your preferences.
