For years, I’d heard people describe their wedding day as the best day of their lives, and truthfully, I’d always thought it must be an exaggeration until I got married at Thicket Priory in April 2023. It truly was the best weekend of our lives.

Anna and the team are incredible. A huge asset to the stunning venue. Nothing was too much to ask, and Anna put my mind at ease from the moment we met her to view Thicket Priory for the first time. We booked the wedding in a relatively short time frame (four months before the wedding), and Anna was unflappable!

As a wedding planner myself to say I’m particular is an understatement, but Thicket delivered in every area. With a number of catering options to choose from (which many venues don’t offer you), we felt like we had control over what to serve, how it would be served, and the price point we wanted to work to. The bedrooms are all unique and kept to an incredibly high standard. The bar is very reasonably priced (especially to say they have you as a captive audience, so could charge a fortune!), the grounds are second to none, and the number of options for where to get married is a luxury many places can’t offer, and the team are just the best(cannot stress this enough).

If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful to gather your loved ones under one roof for a couple of nights, stop looking and book Thicket Priory. You will not be disappointed!

We stayed for 2 nights as our friends were getting married . The whole experience was brilliant and this was due to the stunning location and building but more so the Team who worked at Thicket Priory as they were exceptional and so friendly.

Wedding Wizards – Our Venue

Thicket Priory is the wedding venue you never knew you were looking for all along. I think it took Michael and I maybe 20 seconds into our first visit before whispering to each other, “We’re getting married here“. Thicket Priory is the real deal, not only is it stunningly beautiful, you also immediately feel like you’re home. But it’s the people that make it truly magical.
Becca – I don’t even know what to say except for how did we get so lucky? I knew instantly that we were in the best hands during our first phone call. She didn’t bet an eye when I showed her my wedding bible!

She calmed me down when I got overwhelmed before the wedding, she was always available through phone, texts, and emails, no request was too big or too complicated (and that’s how we ended up with a skip to smash crockery on Friday evening). When it started pouring down five minutes before our ceremony, she stayed calm and got everything and everyone inside. Seeing her during the weekend always calmed my nerves and so many of our guests came up to me afterwards to say how amazingly smooth everything went, and that is thanks to Becca! Becca, you are incredible, and I will never be able to thank you enough!

Next to Becca, Lil and Becks never ceased to amaze me. Becks managed to sneak out the kids during the “boring“ bits of the wedding (which I didn’t even notice), but the kids absolutely loved it! Lil made sure every single step of my wedding bible was followed, and seeing her tear up during our ceremony just shows you how invested everyone is in making your day perfect.
They say there are fairies at Thicket Priory that work their magic and that only the kids can see them. But I met at least three fairies myself!

Book Thicket for your wedding!

We cannot – CANNOT – recommend Thicket Priory more highly for your wedding. From our initial viewing to the day and all the support afterwards – the Thicket team has been phenomenal. Anna, Becca and the entire team feel like family and, without a doubt, gave our day so much magic – words can’t explain how brilliant they’ve been. The venue itself is fabulous – it’s unique. It has so many little quirks: the little pantries, the haberdashery room, steamers for the wedding dress, handwritten room keys, personalised directions to find where you’re staying, and, of course, the hidden door!

We had total freedom to use the space and create the setting that we wanted. We had a typical Yorkshire summer weather (rain all weekend!), but the venue was such that we didn’t need to go outside and could move through the venue without any need to be outside. And the team! WOW. They are a knockout. They gave us ideas and suggestions without any pressure on how we should plan our day. They made the whole planning process fun and even better; once we arrived on Friday, we didn’t have to lift a finger and could fully relax into the wedding.

We can’t thank our Thicket family enough for making our wedding weekend so, so, so magical.

Absolutely amazing venue which is truly unique. The grounds are spectacular even on a rainy day and the priory itself manages to showcase it’s history together with modern touches all finished to the highest of standards. To have the potential of 35 bedrooms for guests in such a special venue is something which stands out from elsewhere. We were lucky enough to attend the venue and enjoy some amazing canapés (surf and turf canapés were out of this world good!) and a fabulous meal. If you are looking for a wedding venue it absolutely should be on the list, Anna and the staff were fabulous and I honestly can’t imagine anyone being anything other than amazed at the whole set up! Go for it!

Thicket Priory is the perfect country home setting to host overseas and English guests all under one roof for a weekend wedding. But what sets it apart is the level of service the amazing wedding team and staff provide from planning to wedding day.

Anna, Lil, Becca, and Maggie are an all-star wedding coordination team that was helpful, kind, and attentive to detail—all the qualities you need, especially when planning a wedding from the States. Anna and Lil were flexible in working with my husband and me via Zoom and around our schedules for the tasting and pre-wedding shoot when we had just a small window to travel. They also helped coordinate details for our blended wedding ceremony, which included aspects of a Vietnamese Tea Ceremony.

Overall, this was the wedding of our dreams in the most perfect venue. The reviews don’t exaggerate the experience; we’re happy to add to the high praise.

Thicket Priory is truly one of the most breathtaking venues, not only in Yorkshire, but within the UK. I have visited Thicket Priory as a supplier on several occasions, Anna and the team are warm, welcoming and so attentive – making sure you feel right at home in this stunning building. The attention to detail in the furnishings and styling is incredible. It is the perfect place to host any private getaway, wedding or celebration!

Thicket Priory – where’s that? Those were the words spoken to our son when we were on holiday last year and he announced that not only had she said “yes” but also that the date and venue for the big day were fixed. Sitting thousands of miles away, little could we imagine the treat that was  laying in store for us. Looking at the photographs on the website whetted our appetite but it was impossible to visualise the real thing so on our return to the UK we contacted Anna and arranged to meet her one cold September afternoon. She became the face of Thicket Priory for us. Her bright and bubbly personality with a casual, relaxed attitude but an underlying exacting eye for detail is exceptional. Having shown us the general layout, we were encouraged to wander around on our own, look into every room, and simply get lost for a couple of hours. That was when the magic set in. Each room is unique with simple but beautiful harmonious decor and furnishings. There are also little anecdotes or a synopsis of their history over the centuries. We knew that our son’s wedding was going to be a very special weekend. That weekend has just passed. Thicket Priory become “home” to our two families and their guests. From the informal meal in the Old Kitchen on Friday lunchtime through to breakfast on Sunday morning, nothing was too much trouble for Anna and her Team. We were able to chill outside in the sun on Friday afternoon, wander round the grounds and lake, and simply absorb the wonderful ambience of this lovely old building. Saturday morning was equally relaxed despite the comings and goings of hairdressers, florists, caterers, photographers and registrars alongside more guests. Even with so much activity, there remained an air of tranquility befitting our special occasion. The wedding itself was delightful. Little touches such as Anna letting our Grandson strike the gong to commence proceedings made it extra special. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire time that we spent in this stunning and lovingly restored old house. It’s a shame it all went so quickly.

From the moment we stepped foot in Thicket Priory, we knew it was our venue, and the process from that point on with you both has just been amazing. We couldn’t have asked for anything better, and all of our guests have been non-stop raving about how special and gorgeous it is (but we already knew that, didn’t we, because we were so in love with it!) It really is a very, very special place!

Becca, a special thanks for all of your help on the weekend of the wedding. From helping us get set up on Friday to keeping me calm on Saturday and being there to make sure every last detail was as it needed to be. I couldn’t have done it without you.

The wider Thicket Priory staff were also brilliant; everyone was so friendly, and it really did feel like we were at home!

Finally, thank you for our gorgeous wedding gift. I had tears in my eyes when we opened it, and it’s going up pride of place in the house this weekend over the stairs, so every day we walk down, we are reminded of the best weekend of our lives at our very special place.

From the moment we walked in, we knew this would be where we get married. The venue is absolutely beautiful, the gardens, the chapel and being able to have our family and friends stay for a weekend made it that bit more special.

We could not have dreamed of a better venue than Thicket Priory. As soon as we took the tour, we struggled to imagine getting married anywhere else. The building and the grounds are so stunning – they strike the perfect balance between grandiose beauty and home comforts. However, we have to say that it was all the little magical details that really made it for us. We were already thinking about theming the wedding around the fantasy books that we both love, but seeing what Thicket had to offer really solidified this idea. We drove home from that viewing, buzzing with excitement.

The weekend itself went totally smoothly. We picked several vendors from the friends of Thicket list and they all did a great job. A lot of guests commented on the venue staff in particular and how it really did feel like fairies were magically sorting everything around us without ever being seen. Everyone felt relaxed and well-cared for. Many people told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to and that they wanted to steal the venue for themselves!

The Perfect Wedding! What an unforgettable weekend! From the moment we entered Thicket Priory on our visit and were greeted by the wonderful Anna, we truly saw the beauty within Thicket, not just its aesthetics. Anna brought our wedding to life the moment we walked through those doors two years ago. Throughout the whole process, Anna and the team were so supportive, and we cannot thank them enough for everything they did – supporting us and other couples through what could have been a disastrous moment! Wedding planning can be extremely stressful. However, having the support of Anna and the team throughout the whole process really took those stresses away—everything was taken in their stride (and made me feel very organised!).

The weekend itself—just WOW. As soon as we walked through those doors on Friday, we knew instantly that we could enjoy the weekend without having any worries or stresses on the day—absolutely everything was taken care of (even my wedding dress blunder!). From start to finish, we enjoyed every second knowing we were in the capable hands of Anna, Lily and Becky – what a fabulous trio you are! Thicket Priory is the most beautiful venue we have ever seen. However, it is the wonderful staff who create the magic and bring everything to life, making our dream wedding come true.

Thicket priory made our dream wedding come true! The absolute perfect venue.

From the moment of our first visit we knew it was the wedding venue for us. It has so much space for your closest family and friends to stay which was so important to us. The gardens are so beautiful, and there are so many little touches that make the venue so perfect.

The staff were just incredible and looked after us every step of the way. Every visit felt like visiting friends- chatting with a cup of tea! They answered all our silly questions and helped plan every detail. They were very organised and were in constant communication with us leading up to the wedding.

A special mention to Becks, who was the most incredible coordinator. From the moment we arrived, she made us feel like VIPs. Thicket priory is the best wedding venue, and we honestly couldn’t recommend it enough!

Where do you start when you have a venue that not only ticked every box but smashed every box out of the park? And it wasn’t just the big things they got right. It was all the little things as well, things that you never realised you needed from your venue.

This is a venue that has thought of literally everything. We were complimenting them, our guests were complimenting them and even our suppliers were complimenting the amazing hospitality that they had received, way beyond what they were used to.

When we first looked around Thicket, we were told to imagine that we were inviting guests into our own home and they were here to help, and it really did feel like that. We knew straight away that Thicket was going to be perfect and never once questioned our decision throughout the whole process. From start to finish, introductions, planning, the weekend, and even afterwards, we could not recommend Thicket and the team enough.

Perfection!

Where do we start to describe this perfect wedding venue for our only daughter’s wedding? With a huge thank you! Especially to Becca and of course Anna and Jess who were with us throughout from the initial enquiry to the arrival of the guests right up to the time we left on Sunday after breakfast. A special mention has to go to Becca who was by our side whatever was required whether it was a safety pin for holding up a gent’s trousers or a hug for an emotional brides mum and of course making sure the whole event ran like clockwork. The private chapel was romantic and intimate, and we loved the truly personal ceremony and of course the beautiful stained glass window backdrop.

As hoteliers and restaurant owners ourselves for many years we were probably more anxious about making sure everything was done to the highest standard… I can tell you it was! All the staff were so professional, the service was slick but personal and the food was the best anyone has ever tasted at any other wedding. Thank you to all the chefs involved. It was all truly excellent, and we cannot praise the catering staff enough. The ballroom looked magnificent, and we loved the surprise element with the ‘no peeking’ sign- genius!

Arranging the Teepee as an extra addition on the lawn outside was another feature we loved as it served as a lounge and the firepit made the perfect setting for groups to congregate. It also made a fabulous first night quiz event venue, where the guests mingled and met family and friends, they hadn’t seen for years due to the recent pandemic.

The bedrooms are so gorgeous especially the Bridal Suite and the little pantries are a delight. The guests loved exploring the quirky corridors and secret passageways and the whole atmosphere of staying in a priory was such a wonderful experience.

Thicket Priory was ours exclusively for the weekend, which is exactly what we wanted, the location spectacular and already our guests are forwarding pictures and sending us their amazing comments about the weekend. You made us feel like royalty. Thicket is a truly special venue, but the staff made it perfect.

From our very first meeting to our last, we were made to feel so at home, and they did everything to make it perfect for us. Felt like home!

I could write a whole essay about how wonderful Thicket Priory is, but in simple terms, we don’t think we could have ever found a better wedding venue.

Since the start of our planning with Thicket in June 2022 – two years before THE day – we have been met with warmth, care, love, understanding, flexibility, kindness, and so much more. Not only does Thicket Priory feel like home the second you step into its magnificent yet cosy interior, but the communication with staff at each planning stage feels like getting help from a favourite family member. We have had the pleasure to work with Jess initially and later with Anna – both of these women are magnificent and incredible, and I’m sure they yield some sort of magic that makes them superhuman.

The incredible staff and the owner, Bruce, make Thicket that extra bit special compared to other venues. Instead of hooking us in and allowing us to simply deal with all the wedding planning, Thicket was there to point us in the right direction or catch us at any moment. They are more than a venue – they are a community their couples can lean on. A community of Yorkshire wedding industry experts who know their wedding venue inside out and can anticipate your every question. And when things get too overwhelming? Well – they are there to help you relax, hug you, tell you it will all be fine, and help you find a solution – whether that is reaching out to their contacts, helping out with catering problems, or giving you a bit more time on those final payment deadlines. They are there to rejoice in your wedding day with you, and you can really feel that from the moment you book your initial visit to the checkout on Sunday.

Our wedding was beautiful, and we owe a lot of that to Anna and her fairies. Throughout the weekend, she was there at every step – helping with set up, instructing vendors, gathering family members, putting on boutonnieres, keeping the schedule going, and so much more. We had 150 guests, and she deserves all the praise for ensuring everyone was in the correct place and time! Anna is a wonder and, for us, the heart of Thicket Priory.

To sum it up, Thicket Priory was one of our best wedding decisions. We can’t recommend it enough!
