Set within the Dalmeny Estate near South Queensferry, The Walled Garden, with its high stone walls, was originally built in the 19th century. Inside, spaliered fruit trees line the walls, seasonal planting brings colour and texture, and open lawns offer room to gather.
A restored teak glasshouse sits at the heart of the garden, adding structure to the softer planting. Paths move easily between spaces, with views that stretch out towards the Firth of Forth in the distance. The result is a setting that feels private whilst open to the skies, with a natural flow that supports both quiet moments and joyful celebration.
The glasshouse offers a light-filled indoor setting, where its tall panes and simple structure create a calm, considered backdrop for year-round vows. It works equally well for smaller gatherings or as a contingency when the weather turns.
Outdoors, the garden opens up a range of options. Lawns can be arranged in a more traditional layout, or seating can be placed among the borders for a less formal look. The surrounding walls provide privacy throughout, keeping the ceremony focused and uninterrupted.
Each space can be arranged to suit the flow of the day, with layouts adjusted to match guest numbers and the overall feel you want to create.
After the ceremony, the garden lends itself to a relaxed, open drinks reception, where guests can mingle and enjoy the surroundings. The glasshouse becomes a central point as the day progresses, offering shelter if needed and a space for dining or speeches. For larger celebrations, marquees can be introduced without disrupting the garden’s overall character.
The garden can be fully styled with seasonal floral arrangements, lighting, and décor, while garden furniture such as tables, chairs, and lounges can be hired to complement your chosen theme. Whether you prefer a casual, mingling-style reception with high tables and drinks stations or a more structured seated gathering, every detail can be tailored to your style.
While The Walled Garden itself does not offer on-site accommodation, The Water Tower, which recently opened within the estate, provides a private and well-finished space for two guests. The perfect option for couples on the night of the wedding.
Catering at The Walled Garden is led by the Rosebery Estates culinary team, known across Scotland for their work at private events. Their approach is tailored rather than fixed, with menus created in collaboration with each couple.
Seasonality guides the offering, with ingredients sourced locally where possible. This allows menus to reflect both the time of year and the setting, whether that leans towards lighter, outdoor dining or something more structured within the glasshouse.
The Walled Garden is committed to sustainability and environmentally conscious practices, ensuring weddings are both beautiful and responsible. The estate prioritises locally sourced ingredients for catering, supports Scottish farmers, and reduces food miles. Seasonal planting and careful garden management promote biodiversity, attracting pollinators and creating a thriving natural ecosystem within the walled garden. Where possible, eco-friendly décor, reusable or compostable materials, and minimal-waste practices are encouraged for events.
