The famous, storied and beautiful Hawarden Estate sits on a few thousand acres in North East Wales, just 15 minutes from Chester and within easy reach of Liverpool and Manchester. Home to two castles of national importance, a Victorian walled garden, conservatory, greenhouse, orchards, parkland, private lake and a thriving independent pub and farm shop, Hawarden Estate is a self-contained oasis which hosts just a handful of bespoke weddings each year.
On your wedding day, you’ll wake to spectacular views from the window of The West End in Hawarden Castle, as your guests enjoy breakfast in Gardener’s House and Beekeeper’s Hut. Your wedding feast, overseen by the award-winning chef team, will take place within the walled garden grounds. And the party that follows will be one to remember.
The Walled Garden is home to four incredibly unique ceremony spaces: The Orchards, The Greenhouse, The Terrace & The Conservatory.
The Greenhouse is the original Victorian Greenhouse, where generations of gardeners have tended. They have since restored it to its natural beauty: brilliant white framing, full glass panels and a warm, intimate feel. This seats up to 38 for a fantastically intimate ceremony.
The Orchards sit in the centre of the gardens, with the aisle lined with 200-year-old apple trees and overlooking not one, but two castles. It creates a natural, organic feel to your day.
The Terrace is tucked away from the elements, yet sits in the heart of the gardens. Dramatic views out to the New Castle and Orchard frame your view as you say your vows. You’ll experience the very best of the great outdoors here, whilst being sheltered in complete comfort (and the sunsets here are truly one of a kind).
The Conservatory is fully indoors and fully heated. With bright pink walls, oil paintings and gold mirrors, it really does set the opulent scene of the day.
The fruit trees in the Orchard have stood there for generations, and now act as a perfect backdrop for your outdoor ceremonies and vibrant cocktail receptions. Sunshine, woodsmoke and dappled shadows await all those who choose to host their main event here, with a number of superb contingencies available should the heavens open.
The Terrace is tucked away from the elements, yet sits in the heart of the gardens. You’ll experience the very best of the great outdoors here, whilst being sheltered in complete comfort.
The castle, cabin and cottage all sit within a stone’s throw of The Walled Garden, offering an immediate, luxurious sanctuary for you and your guests.
The West End
The West End sits within Hawarden Castle itself. The fabled, giant West Room is where you’ll spend most of your time: eating, reading, listening to records. There’s a wonderful kitchen, five large bedrooms, wide corridors, an elegant staircase, four superb bathrooms and a private indoor sauna. No detail has been overlooked in order to earn this a place amongst the best holiday accommodation in Britain.
Gardener’s House
This elegant Georgian home, with its simple but refined garden, has been home to generations of head gardeners and, indeed, artists. In response to these previous residents, the house has been filled with great art, superb modern and vintage furniture, and at every turn, from the lamps to the kitchen knives, only the best has been chosen. This is simple, super comfortable luxury at its very best.
Beekeeper’s Hut
This custom-built hut is perched at the highest point in The Walled Garden, with idyllic views across the working garden and the 18th Century Hawarden Castle beyond. You’ll encounter the morning chorus, and, perhaps, catch a glimpse of the resident owls. This will be the most comfortable glamping experience of your life.
The Estate’s award-winning chefs are true experts in cooking over fire, adding theatre, joy and plenty of sweet woodsmoke to your wedding feast. Using the finest ingredients sourced from the estate and top suppliers across Wales and the North West, they place particular emphasis on local, seasonal food. Hawarden Estate chefs are renowned for their expertise in live-fire cooking. The team will work with you to create a spectacular feast from the flames, much of it cooked and finished live over Estate-grown wood, right in front of your guests.
As custodians of a former Welsh Pub of the Year, they know their wines and will happily take the lead, making gentle pairing suggestions or simply helping you source the best stuff from their cellars.
Hawarden Estate is located in North East Wales, only a short 15-minute drive from Chester, a 45-minute drive from Liverpool and Manchester or just a 2-hour journey from London.

Yes, we are dog-friendly for the ceremony and cocktail reception. We would highly recommend that your four-legged friend be off-site from the wedding breakfast onwards. We can recommend some amazing wedding-specific dog minders and boarding. All of our accommodation is dog-friendly, although we ask that you keep your four-legged friends off beds and furniture and that they not be left unattended in any of our properties.
We have a private car park that holds up to 50 cars. It is fully lit at night and is a very short walk away from the Walled Garden. Guests are welcome to leave their cars here overnight and collect them in the morning. Our gates are strictly locked at 11.30pm and open the following morning.
We only host a handful of weddings per year, not because we can't host more, but because we want our couples to feel they have had the best experience with us. They have placed their trust in us to host their special day, and that really means something to us. We will never host a wedding directly before yours or directly after yours. If you choose the exclusive hire, we mean exclusive hire. There will be no other on-site accommodation for guests, and only you and your party will have access to the grounds.
No. We love working with all wedding businesses, both new and familiar. We will need PLI & PAT (if plugging in), and recommend a site visit before your Big Day if they are new to us.
