Perched at the edge of Hurst Green in the Ribble Valley, the Shireburn Arms is a 17th-century inn with uninterrupted views stretching across open countryside to the River Ribble. The building’s honey-toned stone, historic architecture, and mature gardens create a timeless setting. From the garden terrace, guests can watch the light shift across the hills as the day unfolds.
Ceremonies take place in a characterful room within the original inn, where historic beams and rich textures reflect the building’s 350-year heritage. A private bar adds intimacy to the setting, while views across the surrounding greenery provide a natural backdrop throughout the day.
The same room transforms into a relaxed and sociable space for the wedding breakfast and evening celebration. Its cosy layout, private bar, and connection to the gardens create a natural flow between drinks, dinner and dancing. As night falls, the soft glow from inside spills out into the garden, inviting guests to linger and enjoy the view.
The inn has 21 individually styled bedrooms designed for comfort and ease. Thoughtful touches and countryside charm define each room, giving guests a warm and relaxing place to return to after the festivities. The larger suites offer extra space for getting ready or winding down with a nightcap.
The village of Hurst Green is steeped in history and surrounded by miles of footpaths, including the Tolkien Trail, which begins just steps from the front door. Wedding guests can spend a quiet morning wandering through the countryside or visiting nearby market towns like Clitheroe, known for its historic castle and independent shops.
Shireburn Arms sits in the centre of Hurst Green, with easy road access and plenty of on-site parking. Just 20 minutes from Clitheroe or an hour from Manchester, it’s a straightforward journey for guests arriving from near or far.
I loved the fact that almost all of our guests stayed over the night before the wedding so we were all able to have breakfast together. It was nice to go out on the morning of the wedding in such nice surroundings and have a leisurely dog walk before getting ready. I really liked that there is a bridal dressing room so I was able to have a few family members with me whilst I had my hair and makeup done. We wanted our dog, Teddy, to be a major part of our wedding as he is so special to us and he was actually the ring bearer.
The whole team at the Shireburn were amazing, they couldn’t have done anymore to make our day so perfect. Sarah was such a comfort to have around before the ceremony and the little things, like being told we could sneak into the wedding breakfast before everyone else to see the room and being given 10 minutes straight after the ceremony in our own room with a glass of fizz to have a moment to realise we’d just got married! We loved every minute of our day and wouldn’t have wanted to have it anywhere else.
Firstly, the staff were incredible. Everyone was so friendly and just couldn’t do enough for us, bending over backwards to help. Nico in particular was an absolute legend and we all loved him. There was a man with a big beard too who was also amazing! The room decor set up throughout the day was just perfect. It looked better than I could have ever dreamed of! The food was also brilliant and everyone said so.
The morning after, we came down ready to clear everything up only to find it had all been done and all we had to do was pack up the car. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Even hiccups like the music not starting and the power cutting out in our first dance are now some of my favourite memories because it was just so funny! And last but not least, Sarah, our wedding coordinator! Sarah made me feel so at ease with all the planning and made everything so smooth and enjoyable. Having Sarah right behind me before I walked down the aisle was everything I needed and I hope she knows how important a role she plays in a brides day. I can’t thank her enough.
Overall, everyone had the best day and so many people commented on what a perfect venue it was. And they were right! We made the best decision to get married at The Shireburn Arms.
Our wedding was just the most dreamy, calm and love-filled day and the staff all played such a huge part in making it feel that way. Their attentiveness and consideration were second to none and all family and guests noticed and commented. Megan, Sarah were absolute hero’s throughout our wedding journey. The venue and food were perfect for our intimate family wedding and as a result, two of our friends that attending decided that they also want to get married there! We can’t wait to go back for food and country walks to keep such wonderful memories alive.
