The Pilgrims Rest is an architectural gem but more than just a beautiful old building, this grand old lady has historic soul. She has hosted celebrations from medieval banquets to Georgian balls, Victorian luncheons to Edwardian tea dances. Over the centuries flagons of ale, goblets of wine and flutes of champagne have been consumed beneath her eaves to the sounds of merriment and laughter flooding through her walls.
The Pilgrims Rest is a stunning venue all year round. When the sun is shining your guests can relax in her pretty cottage and sunny walled gardens, and as the evenings draw in, stoke up the fires, light some candles, then watch as she sparkles into life.
All three reception rooms boast inglenook fireplaces. With endless historic features from ancient beams to linenfold doors, witch’s marks to ward off evil spirits and a secret tunnel hidden under the Great Hall fireplace that runs beneath the Abbey walls, The Pilgrims Rest is truly unique.
Nobody likes last minute panics on the morning of their wedding which is why they offer access to the building the afternoon before to set up. On the morning of your wedding, a member of their team will have both the Bryant and the Fitzherbert dressing rooms ready for you from 8.30 a.m.
The Great Hall seats up to 50 for your ceremony. With its huge inglenook fireplace, oak floors, vaulted ceiling and ancient pargetting walls, the Great Hall is a very special place to make your vows. Following your ceremony, you and your guests can enjoy your drinks reception in the pretty cottage and walled gardens. As the evenings draw in, you may prefer to congregate by the fire in the cosy Webster Bar.
The Dining Rooms complete with oak floors, beams and linenfold doors can seat up to 50 guests. While you are having your meal, their team will quietly set up The Great Hall ready for dancing. If you would like to invite more guests in the evening, they can accommodate up to 90 people in the building.
The Pilgrims Rest is essentially a dry hire venue but one with a difference. Rather than offering a blank space where everything needs to be hired in to make it beautiful, they have carefully designed and furnished the building to help keep your wedding costs down. Four times a year their styling team creates a new seasonal look for the building to help make your day as relaxed, and affordable, as possible.
The Pilgrims Rest is the perfect backdrop for your wedding day. They offer you the flexibility to choose your own caterers and suppliers, or even do the whole thing yourselves with the help of friends and family. Alternatively, you might prefer to use suppliers from their “Tried, tested and trusted” list. They simply provide a beautiful wedding venue and a little hand holding, with exclusive use, no corkage charges and lots of added extras.
The Pilgrims Rest… be a part of her history.
Got married at the Pilgrims Rest in August. We had the most perfect day imaginable and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing and wonderful Amy and Amy! From the minute we set eyes on the venue, we fell in love. Amy was the most helpful person we could have wished for throughout the entire year leading up to the wedding, nothing was ever too much and she was always on hand to answer questions or give us advice. Our day went perfectly and all our guests were blown away with the magical Pilgrims Rest. I’d go back a year and do it all again if I could. Eternally grateful to you.
We had our wedding here on the 23rd November and we could not of wished for a more beautiful venue. It was stunning. Amy lou, Amy & Becca were absolutely amazing and nothing was too much trouble, such lovely ladies. Our wedding was magical and just perfect. We highly recommend The Pilgrims Rest. Thank you ladies for making our wedding amazing.
Thanks so much to The Pilgrims Rest for hosting our wedding day in Oct 2019. From the moment we walked in the door on our first visit in Jan 2018, we knew it was the venue for us. It was the perfect size for the intimate wedding that we had planned and was so inviting with all the wooden beams, beautiful decor and lovely fireplaces. We didn’t want to book any old venue, we wanted somewhere that had a story to tell and somewhere that would be the perfect background for a cosy autumnal wedding. The Pilgrims Rest was just that. All of our guests kept complimenting our choice of venue and loved the fact that we had chosen something a little bit different that had so much character. The Abbey next door also provides another fantastic backdrop for photographs. The venue can be dressed up as much as you like. They provide just the right amount of decorations so that you really don’t need to buy anything if you don’t want to which is a massive plus for keeping costs down. We brought decorations but tried to stick to pieces that really added to the feel of the venue so lots of candles and pumpkins worked a treat! Last but by certainly no means least, Amy & Amy Lou were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. They were so supportive during the planning process and were always on hand to answer any questions we had. Amy helped with decorating the venue the day before (thank you!) and Amy, Amy Lou & Anita really looked after everyone on the day to ensure it all ran so smoothly. We will be eternally grateful for everything that you have done for us and are so glad that we chose The Pilgrims Rest as our venue.
I had my wedding here yesterday, I fell in love with the venue as soon as I walked in many months ago. I cannot praise Amy and Amy-lou enough they are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble, they recommend only the best caterers, entertainment etc. and are so happy to help when you ‘do-it-yourself’. Our day was absolutely amazing and all the guests were full of compliments on the venue and the whole day. 10 out of 10 couldn’t wish for better.
We had our lovely wedding here in June 2018 and what an absolutely stunning and beautiful venue. The Pilgrims Rest is a beautifully unique venue and the DIY aspect really enables you to tailor your day to how you want. Amy was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. She took onboard our ideas with such enthusiasm and helped us to plan our special day. The venue we fell in love with instantly. It’s beautiful old character and history really makes for a great backdrop to your photos and the fact you can get ready upstairs in the venue is perfect. I have lots of love for this venue!! Surrounded by the stunning Battle Abbey it really makes for a romantic, historic and beautiful day. Amy was fantastic throughout our day ensuring everything was done to how we wanted and even entertaining the children whilst waiting for the evening entertainment to start! It’s stunning gardens as well make for lovely social areas in the summer months and picture opportunities! I would 100% recommend this venue. It’s cute, cosy, beautiful in all seasons and just an absolute treasure of a building and we were very lucky and privileged to of found it.
We got married at The Pilgrims Rest in June 2018. From our first meeting Amy (and her sidekick ‘little Amy’) were absolutely brilliant. We wanted a DIY low-key, relaxed day in a beautiful venue and we got everything we could have hoped for and more. They both helped us with so many parts, from helping us find a bartender and staff who helped serve the food (Tres and Pauline they went above and beyond to keep our guests happy), to keeping calm and unravelling a huge knot of fairy lights the day before when we had ran out of energy. I would recommend them without a doubt, and all of our guests had a brilliant day. We chose The Pilgrims Rest for its beautiful old building and ambience, but the two Amy’s with their unwavering hard work which is carried out with smiles and pure enthusiasm to make others happy, made it a day we will remember forever.
We celebrated our wedding at The Pilgrim’s Rest in November this year. Not only is the venue wonderful and one of a kind (all of our guests commented on how beautiful and unique the space was) but the staff at the Pilgrim’s Rest help make your day brilliant. Amy, Amy Lou and Anita were really helpful, have loads of experience and had solutions for every situation. The philosophy of the venue is wonderful as well – you can tailor the event to you as much as you’d like, with your choice of caterers, celebrants, decorations, bands etc. No obligation to choose from a list of vendors, but Amy and Amy Lou will provide you with recommendations of vendors to make life easier if you’d like. We had a wonderfully memorable day, thank you!
We held our wedding at The Pilgrims Rest on 23rd December. We were looking for a smaller, intimate venue for our wedding and this was the first place we looked at and instantly fell in love with it! It’s just perfect! Beautifully decorated throughout – other than us adding additional flowers to the dining table – it was ready to go, including fur throws, candles, seasonal flowers and decorations… it was everything we wanted and more! The two dressing rooms are beautifully decorated and were ideal for us both getting ready together – yet separately – at either end of the building – ideal for photos too! The two Amy’s went out of their way to make us feel relaxed and couldn’t do more for us on the day. Being able to stock our own bar and get our own caterer meant we were able to keep the costs down and have our day exactly as we wanted. An ideal venue for photo opportunities as it’s packed full of character and adjacent to Battle Abbey. We couldn’t recommend it more!
We held our wedding at the Pilgrims Rest on 23rd November and it was a truly magical day. The venue is stunning and was absolutely perfect for our intimate day with family and our closest friends, all of whom commented on how beautiful and perfect the surroundings were. Originally, before we even knew about the Pilgrims, we were due to get married at a different venue but the property was sold to new owners and they cancelled our wedding with just 3 months to go. We were completely lost as to what to do next but then stumbled upon The Pilgrims and completely fell in love with it – we were so lucky it was available on our date too! In hindsight, this was by far the more superior setting for our special day so we’re now actually grateful that the last venue cancelled on us! One of the best things about the Pilgrims are Amy and Amy Lou, for sure. From the moment we got in touch (in a panic!!), they made us feel calm, really looked after and that genuinely nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel so special and supported which, considering the amount of weddings they must help to organise, made it all the more impressive to us. They both went out of their way to make whatever we wanted to happen on our special day possible and for that we will be forever grateful.
Thank you so so much for making our wedding day so amazing and special. It was absolutely perfect, you and your whole team worked so hard all day/evening. We are sad it’s all over!
No you are welcome to use your own suppliers, however we do have a little black book of fantastic tried and tested local suppliers we can introduce you to.
Yes we do!
Yes, we have two beautiful changing rooms where you can get ready separately, meaning one photographer can capture the whole day.
Yes, there are lots of hotels and B&Bs within walking distance.
The Pilgrims Rest is 600 years old, with lots of beautiful backdrops both inside and in the gardens. We are also very lucky to be right next to Battle Abbey where, for a small fee, you can have private photographs taken in the grounds. There are also plenty of lovely backdrops and fields close by.
