About
Setting

Middle Temple offers a secluded setting in the heart of London’s legal district-calm and characterful, with a quiet beauty that contrasts with its busy surroundings. Whether marking the day with quiet intimacy or grand festivity, the venue presents a rare combination of historic charm and adaptable space.

Its centrepiece is the Elizabethan Hall, one of the finest of its kind in the country, offering a dramatic setting for larger celebrations. Elsewhere, the Bench Apartments-comprising the Parliament Chamber, Queen’s Room, and Prince’s Room-offer a series of richly atmospheric spaces, each defined by its own character and charm.

The Middle Temple Gardens add another dimension. Bordered by the Thames, this lush green expanse offers a natural setting for outdoor ceremonies or intimate receptions on the lawn. Few venues in central London offer a setting that feels this private, yet so connected.

Ceremony

There are several licensed spaces at Middle Temple, both indoors and outdoors, accommodating ceremonies of all scales and styles.

  • Elizabethan Hall: up to 300 guests (this space must be reset for dinner following the ceremony)
  • Gardens: up to 300 guests (outdoor furniture must be hired in)
  • Parliament Chamber: up to 70 guests
  • Queen’s Room: up to 50 guests
  • Prince’s Room: up to 60 guests

The gardens offer a particularly rare option: a licensed outdoor ceremony space in the heart of London.

Reception

Each room at Middle Temple can accommodate a reception, offering flexible layouts to suit various dining preferences.

  • Elizabethan Hall: 260 guests (long tables) or 180 guests (round tables-hire required)
  • Parliament Chamber: 60 guests (long tables) or 40 guests (4 round tables)
  • Queen’s Room: 22 guests
  • Prince’s Room: 30 guests (3 round tables)

Whether celebrating with a few close friends or a full guest list, the venue adapts to the scale of the occasion.

Accommodation

While the Middle Temple does not offer on-site accommodation, preferential rates are available with several nearby hotels.

Food & Drink

Graysons, the in-house caterer at Middle Temple, focuses on fresh, seasonal food that feels just right for the occasion. Whether you’re after a formal sit-down meal or something more easy-going, their team will work with you to shape a menu that fits naturally into the day.

Local Area

Positioned within London’s historic legal district, Middle Temple is surrounded by centuries-old buildings, narrow passageways, and quiet courtyards, offering a world away from the pace of the nearby city streets.

Getting There

Middle Temple is well-located for public transport. The nearest stations are:

  • Temple
  • Blackfriars
  • Chancery Lane

Each is a short walk away.

By car, the entrance is via Tudor Street, open daily from 06:00 until midnight. On-site parking is very limited (three spaces only).

There is no coach access to Middle Temple itself. Guests arriving by coach should be dropped off at Temple Place.

At weekends, the only pedestrian access is also via Tudor Street Gate.
