About
Setting

The Ferry House is surrounded by meadows, farmland, and gardens on the Isle of Sheppey, overlooking the Swale estuary. With wide views of water and sky, it feels private and remote, yet it’s only an hour from London. The views, particularly at sunset, offer a striking setting for a celebration.

Ceremony

There are several spaces available for your ceremony, each with its own feel and capacity:

  • Oak Gazebo: An open-air space with estuary views, seating up to 200 guests. Surrounded by the Rose Garden, it offers a peaceful backdrop for your vows.
  • Hop Barn: Seats up to 130 guests and features hop-hung beams and fairy lights. A simple Christmas tree is added during winter weddings. It suits couples after a rustic, indoor setting.
  • Spring Barn (from April 2026): A larger option for up to 200 guests, with high ceilings and large windows framing the views. Included for weddings of 130+ guests; optional for smaller celebrations.
  • St. Thomas the Apostle Church: A five-minute drive from the venue. The Ferry House can assist you in arranging a traditional church ceremony here.
Reception

You can hold drinks receptions on the terrace overlooking the estuary, which links to the Oak Gazebo, Hop Barn or Spring Barn. From April 2026, the Private Pub becomes another option, especially cosy in colder months with its open fires.

For the wedding breakfast:

  • Hop Barn: Seats up to 70. A more intimate option, with beams strung with hops and lights. French doors open to the terrace.
  • Event Suite: A neutral space for up to 180 guests. Features bi-fold doors and estuary views. From April 2026, this is replaced by:
  • Spring Barn: Takes up to 260 guests. A large oak-framed space with in-room bar and lounge seating. Large windows provide open views and daylight.

Evening receptions can take place in:

  • Hop Barn: For up to 100 guests.
  • Event Suite: For up to 250 guests.
  • Spring Barn (from April 2026): For up to 350 guests. Includes a dance floor, lounge seating, and access to a courtyard. You can add extras, such as fire pits or sparklers, on the terrace.
Accommodation

There’s accommodation for over 70 guests across the venue and nearby cottages.

  • At The Ferry House: Sleeps up to 22, with camp beds and cots available. Five rooms are located above the venue, most with views of the estuary or garden. Room 5 is a popular honeymoon suite with a spa bath.
  • The Coach House: Six individually decorated rooms, most with views of the Kitchen Garden. Room 6 includes a copper bath.
  • Mocketts Farm Cottages: Five minutes away, with space for 53 guests across five self-catering cottages. These are often booked as part of two-day weddings.
Food & Drink

Ingredients come from the Kitchen Garden, the family farm, and the local Harty estate. The in-house team, awarded 2AA Rosettes, focuses on fresh, seasonal produce.

  • Start your day with a brunch platter and a glass of fizz while getting ready.
  • Drinks receptions feature Kentish fizz, cocktails crafted with grain from the farm, and mocktails made with garden syrups.
  • Canapés often feature local beef and garden vegetables.
  • Main meals range from three-course menus to hog roasts. All packages include wine, with upgrades available.
  • Evening food options include grazing tables, bowls, or build-your-own dishes. A brownie cake with cheesecake frosting is available as a statement dessert.
  • A buffet breakfast can be arranged for staying guests the next day.
Sustainability

Sustainability is at the core of the venue’s approach, with homegrown and local ingredients featured in each menu.

  • The Kitchen Garden provides seasonal produce.
  • Beef and game come from the family farm and the nearby estate.
  • An on-site composter turns waste into soil for the gardens.
  • A solar panel field powers part of the venue, with plans for more.
Getting There

The Ferry House is roughly an hour from London by car via the A2 or A20. There is direct access from the M2 and M20, with on-site parking available.

By train, guests can travel to Sittingbourne, then take a 30-minute taxi or shuttle. Eurostar arrivals can transfer from Ashford International in about 45 minutes. London airports are all within a 90-minute drive by car.

Whilst planning, the whole team were so friendly and professional and couldn’t do more to support our vision for our wedding. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and was always decorated perfectly to reflect the current seasons. Each planning meeting was well-thought-out and enabled us to think of things we may not have previously! I would recommend anyone to have their wedding or event at The Ferry House.

Our coordinator Sam was simply amazing. She was always on hand with any emails I had, she updated us when she needed to. She really listened to what we wanted and worked her socks off for us. Nothing was too much trouble for Sam, she genuinely wanted our day to be perfect. She set up for us, spoke to us during the evening just to make sure everything was okay. The ‘freebies’ the venue allow you to use are also a great touch! We could not say 1 negative thing!

We got married at the Ferry House last Saturday and had the most amazing, magical day, and that was all down to the incredible team at The Ferry House.
Sam & Chloe were our wedding coordinators on the day, and they were absolutely faultless. The day ran perfectly, and that was all down to them both.

The food was incredible, and every one of our guests commented on how amazing the food quality was. The rooms were super comfortable. The venue overall was just incredible, we would highly recommend anyone getting married to celebrate here.

We celebrated our wedding this weekend at The Ferry House and just had the most amazing day in the most spectacular surroundings. The Inn itself is beautiful, large enough to cope comfortably with our 130 guests. The gardens were gorgeous, and the view just beautiful. But that was just the start. From the moment we booked the Ferry House, we have had fantastic communication with the weddings team. They were quick to reply to every query I had, gave us advice from their experience and calmed me when the anxiety hit hard a few days before our Wedding! On the day itself I felt like absolute royalty, the getting ready room was beautiful, the brunch platters perfectly pitched for our party and every time I turned around with a query or holding something I didn’t know what to do with, Maxine, Chloe or one of their team was there to deal with it.

The food was absolutely delicious, and we had several compliments on the day from impressed guests. I was anxious about being in the limelight for the day, but I leaned into it (!) and honestly had the most amazing day, and that was largely down to the Ferry House, their incredible team, venue, professionalism and setting. Thank you so much for making our Wedding Day more than I ever expected.

From start to finish – with covid in between – The Ferry House have been amazing.
Venue and location stunned all our guests, food and drinks were the best at any event we’ve attended. Delicious plentiful and presentation superbly executed. Hotel and cottages can not be faulted. Our wedding planner Jess was flexible, approachable and professional. We felt we were special and important to them – not just another couple getting married. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The planning process and the technology works and prompt replies are so important. Totally stress-free and fun. If you want to wake up the day after your wedding wishing for “Groundhog Day” book it at this venue.

Our wedding here was superb. The staff, the venue, the setting, the views, the food, the drinks! Everything was perfect, and all of our guests were amazed at what a real gem this place is. Many of our guests have said they will return to sample a meal or overnight weekend break here. You won’t be disappointed if you choose this venue!

The FHI will make sure your ideas come to life just the way you imagined and will take care of everything for smooth running of the day. Everything was taken care of for us, it made planning and setting up the day easy. The service was amazing and all staff were attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much effort. The venue had everything we needed and looked beautiful, cosy and warm, perfect for a winter wedding.., and the smell of the fire!

Thomas & Hayley

My husband and I got married at The Ferry House in April and had the most incredible experience. From our first viewing in 2024, we were made to feel so special. Weddings are incredibly stressful, but the Ferry House team are so capable that they make the planning process feel easy.

We were able to stay the night before our wedding, and from the moment I arrived to check in to the room, I was warmly welcomed by name and had the full VIP treatment. The room itself (the Waterside suite) was stunning, and the bed was so comfortable.

On the day, everything went calmly and smoothly thanks to the efforts of all of The Ferry House team, but especially Maxine, Chloe, and Rebecca, who took such amazing care of us on the day and ensured everything was taken care of. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue is, the deliciousness of the food, and the attentiveness of the staff.

Our Ferry House wedding was absolutely magical, and I cannot recommend them enough to anyone considering staying, eating, or getting married here.

We both had the most perfect, magical day we could ever have dreamt of. The Ferry House Inn will now be an extremely special place to both of us as we have so many memories here that we will cherish forever. All week we have just been smiling from ear to ear and occasionally laughing about something or other that happened on our wedding day. This was in no small part down to yourself and your team and we are both so, so grateful. Everything ran so smoothly and allowed us to completely relax on the day and really enjoy ourselves.

Julie & Lewis

I literally have nothing to fault about FHI or Mocketts – the venue and the staff are simply fabulous. We were lucky enough to get married here in May this year and everything was perfect! The staff are always so friendly and helpful, I’m pretty sure I drove Emily and Victoria mad with all my emails but they were always so lovely with their responses to me. We live in Essex and travelled down once a month to the venue, even if it was just for some lunch or a drink and we were always welcomed by name. They really do give the personal touch! We stayed at Mocketts the night before the wedding and I got ready there in the morning with the tractor taking me to the venue, what an experience to remember! We got married in their beautiful barn and had our wedding breakfast in the marquee and had the resident DJ for the evening. Guy was our toast master and he was fantastic at keeping the whole day run smoothly. I could talk for hours about how perfect my wedding was. If you get married here I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!

Katie & Dave

The venue looked perfect on our wedding day. The staff arranged everything exactly how we wanted it to be, it couldn’t have looked better even if we had decorated it ourselves! Every aspect of the day went flawlessly, staff were always available to help us and we felt really relaxed because everyone made us feel so at ease (in the lead up to the wedding day as well as on the day itself).

The venue is absolutely stunning, and the staff couldn’t be more helpful! The food is amazing, the accommodation is really lovely, and everything is so well thought out.

If you like an organised event, then the Ferry House is for you. Everything had been thought of, from the decor drop being arranged a week before the wedding to the powder room to get ready in and making sure we had our wedding coordinator’s phone number on the day. The whole day ran smoothly and all the staff were attentive whilst giving us and all our guests privacy.

The staff were more than happy to set up and pack away our decor. The venue even had some free decor you could use on the day, something that is so rare in the wedding industry! Everything extra normally comes with a price tag.

We had a small, intimate wedding, and it was the ideal venue for it. Most of our guests stayed over and we all had breakfast the next morning together, which was a lovely way to end the wedding.

I am so impressed with the whole set-up for weddings at the venue and was surprised it fit well within our budget.

We are both still buzzing from the wedding, and a large part of that is down to the Ferry House team. We were so well looked after, including my 9-month-old nephew, and we will definitely be back for our anniversaries!

Every single guest felt that they were well looked after. They felt welcome from the moment they arrived.

The pamper room is an absolute charm to get ready in.

We had an intimate wedding, we didn’t want evening food or a big dance party after. They worked with us to make it as special as it was. I was called a relaxed bride. That was only possible because I knew the staff had everything in hand.

Would definitely recommend the venue.

We had a wonderful day, thank you! Thank you so much for your fantastic support on the day, and throughout the whole planning process. Both me and Ian, and all our guests, had a fantastic time and many people have said it was the best wedding they have been to. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Married January 2023

The venue was a stunning setting for our wedding, and the staff decorated both the barn and event suite perfectly. We really liked having the use of these two separate spaces as well as the outdoor area, to allow for photos with different backdrops, and bring variety to the day for guests. The staff and suppliers on the day were brilliant, and ensured everything ran smoothly. The food was exceptional – all of our guests commented on what a wonderful wedding breakfast it was, and we love that it is locally and organically sourced! Thank you. We were also really keen to have a venue where guests could stay on site or close-by, to allow us to make a weekend of the event. Mocketts Farm and the new coach house was perfect for this.

Caitlin & David

We had our wedding at The Ferry House on 10 May and couldn’t have asked or wished for a better experience.

From the moment we booked (less than 6 months before the wedding), it was clear that they are extremely experienced and efficient at what they do, and I was kept updated at all times. Nothing was left to chance.

Maxine was our wedding coordinator on the day, along with her assistant, Chloe, and again, they kept us calm and stress-free. My husband’s shoe broke, and there was obviously panic from him (I wasn’t made aware of it), but his shoe was taken off to their workshop and came back within minutes, fully wearable!

Maxine came up to get me when it was ‘time’ and kept me calm, although to be honest, it is such a lovely, relaxed place to be, it was quite hard to feel anything but excited about the day ahead.

The food, as we already knew, was amazing, and everything went like absolute clockwork. All of our family had such an incredible day, and it’s a day we will talk about for years. It was just perfect.

I cannot fault the venue, which is beautiful, but also the staff who really do go above and beyond and are exceptional in their organisation and efficiency. Every single member of staff we spoke to was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. They genuinely have got it absolutely nailed down, and there is no room for error.

It honestly is the most perfect place for a wedding, and it’s also really lovely to know that we can go back for our anniversary every year to have dinner and relive the memories.

Absolutely five stars for all of it, but especially every single member of staff who really are just incredible.

Where do we even begin to express our heartfelt gratitude? From the very moment James and I set foot in The Ferry House, we were met with warm smiles and a sense of belonging that instantly captured our hearts. It was clear to us that this was the venue where our dreams would come to life.

Throughout the entire planning process, your team made everything seamless. At every step of the journey, we had someone by our side to help, guide, and support us. Your kindness, care, and exceptional dedication were evident in every interaction we had. You all went above and beyond, ensuring that we felt supported and at ease on our big day.

Words cannot adequately convey the depth of our gratitude for providing us with the most incredible wedding day. Our expectations were not only met but exceeded in every possible way. The flawless execution, the breathtaking grounds, and the exceptional food left us in awe.

More than just a venue, The Ferry House became a warm and welcoming home for our families and friends. Your staff’s outstanding hospitality and the homely atmosphere captured the hearts of everyone present.

The beauty of the grounds was matched only by the incredible dedication of your staff. Each and every one of them is outstanding, going above and beyond to ensure that every detail was perfect. We truly couldn’t have asked for more.

Choosing The Ferry House as our wedding venue was one of the best decisions we made. From day one, you made us feel special, and that feeling continued every minute of our wedding day. We are simply blown away by everything you did for us, and our hearts are filled with love and appreciation.

You made us the happiest couple in the world, and our wedding day was beyond special and unforgettable. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for hosting the wedding of the year and for creating memories that will last a lifetime.

We had the most amazing wedding day, and this is all down to everyone at The Ferry House for making it such an incredible experience. From the moment we booked our special day to the last meeting we had with Sam was so seamless and perfect, and she made us both feel so relaxed and at ease. On the day of our wedding, Sam took care of everything, and we didn’t have to worry about a thing! We would highly recommend The Ferry House as it is the perfect venue!

Married May 2025

If you drive up to the Ferry House Inn whilst on a search for a wedding venue and your first thought is “this is perfect” then hold onto that thought and don’t bother looking at any other venues because it is perfect. We had the most beautiful wedding day here. All the staff are amazing and nothing seems to phase them – “We have 4 dogs and would like them to be part of the ceremony” no problem. “I want to wear 3 different dresses at different stages of the wedding” no problem. “We have guests with various dietary requirements” no problem. “Members of our wedding party have special needs” no problem. “We want a double decker bus” no problem. “We want to pick our own flowers” no problem. They care so much about your day and do everything in their power to make it happen for you. Special thanks go to Phil, the brilliant Toastmaster and Emily, our wonderful Wedding Planner. It was the best day of my life and I will never forget it.

Vanessa & Rob

Firstly, our wedding coordinator, “Sam”. She was amazing from start to then our special day. It was lovely meeting Sam in person for all our meetings, and also getting back to us so quickly with any queries we had. The Ferry House team as a whole were all so lovely, such a lovely team and nothing was ever too much trouble. It was the little gestures that went a long way for us. Our wedding day went perfect and everything I could imagine, and that was a massive thanks to the ferry house team.
