The Vibe
Perched on the edge of Kelham Island’s historic waterway, The Chimney House is a South Yorkshire gem surrounded by kingfishers and bullrushes. With its 93ft chimney and original redbrick dating back to 1886, this iconic building exudes historic charm while embracing a modern and inspiring atmosphere. Kelham Island’s industrial heritage sets the scene, creating a picturesque backdrop for a celebration that seamlessly blends the past with the present.
Nestled in the hip neighbourhood of Kelham Island, The Chimney House is easily accessible by train, plane, and car. Just off the M1, it offers a welcome escape without delving into the city centre. A warm embrace awaits as guests step into this restored beauty—a place that feels like a friend’s home. The red brick, fireplaces, stone stairs, and abundant greenery create a cosy and inviting atmosphere, setting the stage for a unique and intimate celebration.
The Vibe
The Chimney House welcomes guests into a cosy atmosphere with fresh British blooms, candlesticks, and custom-made or antique furniture. Ceremonies unfold in The Meeting Room, where a resplendent altar adorned with seasonal blooms and candles sets a romantic stage for up to 50 guests. Following the ceremony, The Meeting Room transforms into an intimate space under original timber beams for a social, delicious, and abundant feast.
Known globally for its love of feasting, The Chimney House curates wedding feasts celebrating local, regional, and Yorkshire food. The reclaimed tables showcase fresh, seasonal dishes from the kitchens, each baked and prepared on the day. Foodies are treated to a holistic and sustainable dining experience, with menus like The Sharing Table, House Feast, and the sensational Laden Table capturing what’s great to eat.
The Chimney House wedding cakes are culinary wonders, matching the venue’s elegance with a Sheffield touch. Freshly made in-house, they are designed to be light and indulgently divine. Dressed with perfectly picked florals from house florists, these cakes embody a wild gypsy hedgerow feel, adding cascades of romance and wanderlust to the celebration. As a family-owned business, The Chimney House offers a bespoke journey filled with consultations and expert care, making every event uniquely special.
We recently hired The Chimney House for our Sheffield wedding reception. We wanted a more laid-back, less traditional reception without losing the sense of occasion for the day. The Chimney House was the perfect choice. In the build-up to the wedding day, the team assisted us with the organisation, itinerary and menu choices for the afternoon.
The staff looked after us brilliantly on the day, keeping drinks topped up and serving the food. This was served in a feasting style and lived up to the description! It was delicious, and many guests commented how much they enjoyed the food. A particular highlight was the slow-cooked beef rib. The dining room in The Chimney House looks great anyway, but the team dressed the venue with flowers and candles, which looked beautiful.
We are super grateful for you guys going the extra mile – dropping off the cakes and your colleague braving the rain to ensure Nanna got her taxi ok!
Thanks again for the most incredible day. The venue was perfect, and your support made it a breeze! Forever thanks.
We would like to say the biggest thank you ever to all involved in making our special day absolutely perfect. You took care of everything and left us with nothing to worry about. Every detail was perfect and as discussed.
The venue looked incredible, and the food was absolutely out of this world! Everyone said they had never eaten cabbage that was so amazing!
All the staff were attentive, friendly and professional.
The only negative is that it’s over; we want to do the whole day again!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We booked The Chimney House after viewing it with one of the team pretty much a year to the day before we got married. From the get-go, we knew the team and the characterful venue would be right for us and our wedding.
The team was with us every step of the way to plan our small, intimate wedding with 17 guests. We booked the venue for how it looked but also for the food. We knew other people who had been to weddings at The Chimney House, and all they could talk about was the amazing food.
During the planning phase, Emma, Lucy, the venue and the kitchen team were very understanding and accommodating of our food preferences (and intolerances in the wedding party). The communication and meetings before the wedding helped us visualise the day, which went off without a hitch.
The guests were greeted with welcome drinks (“Big Day” punch bowls and beers) on the wedding day. Then, we had a piper pipe us into the beautifully decorated venue. The piper was also kept a secret from the Bride’s parents, which the venue facilitated without giving anything away. The Chimney House had taken the decor we had bought and skillfully dressed it with their pre-existing decor and antiques.
Honestly, you don’t need to spend a penny on decor here because their stuff is so beautiful, plus the flowers from Betty’s Flower Club tied everything together. After our ceremony, we went downstairs for more drinks (“French Kissing” punch bowls and beers) and photos whilst the venue reset the ceremony room into a feasting room.
The food was the absolute highlight for us, and our guests always bring it up when we speak to them (the top two dishes amongst our guests were the salmon and creme fraiche starter and the picanha steak main course). The grandparents on both the bride and groom’s side are quite fussy with food, which was a real worry for us, but they loved the food and the wine. The wedding cake (the petite) was also beautiful! Overall, the vibe was very relaxed.
After the wedding, the team at The Chimney House packed our decor, spare favours, and flowers up for us, and we could collect them the next day. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
We cannot recommend this venue enough.
We had always wanted a small ceremony, and The Chimney House was perfect. Since the beginning of our journey, the whole team has been incredible, offering us advice and support throughout. We had absolute confidence in the guys, and they did not disappoint on the day.
All of our guests have commented on what a beautiful, intimate ceremony and meal it was and we feel truly honoured to have been hosted by The Chimney House.
There is not a single thing that we would change about the day, which is surely the way it should be?!
We will forever remember our day and still do not have words to describe our thanks to The Chimney House.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising our wedding at The Chimney House and The Mowbray.
We both had the most perfect day. The venues looked amazing, and the staff were just brilliant. We were so lucky to have a summer’s day in October, and the weather was perfect so we could enjoy drinks in the sunshine outside The Chimney House and drinks on the roof terrace at The Mowbray. It couldn’t have been better, apart from maybe lasting a bit longer!
Carry on being fabulous and making people’s special days so… special!
We booked our wedding reception at the Chimney House about 18 months before the wedding. Right from the start, the team was extremely helpful, answering our constant questions and queries and doing their best to help the planning process run as smoothly as possible.
The reception at The Chimney House was the highlight of the day for both us, as well as our 50 guests. From arrival in a coach, the hospitality was second to none, and the venue was decorated beautifully. The catering and food were fantastic, and we were never left with an empty drink, thanks to the great service provided by the staff on the day.
Thank you to everyone helping make our special day as amazing as we had hoped and imagined.
We just want to say that it was an absolutely perfect day. Everything was spot on; we couldn’t have been happier with how things were.
The food was unreal; everyone commented on how good it was. Some say it is the best food they have ever had at a wedding. We certainly thought so. And all of the guys helping on the day were so helpful. Other than getting asked if we wanted a drink, I don’t think we got involved in anything.
The place looks beautiful and just as we hoped for.
The perfect day! The staff were very receptive to our plans and ambitions and helped us achieve our dream wedding. The Chimney House (ceremony) and The Mowbray (reception) were beautiful and intimate venues that perfectly complemented our small wedding party, making it a day we will never forget.
Not only was it a day that could never be topped, but it also ruined all other steaks for us, because oh my gosh, the steak and all our food was mind-blowing! Overall, the venue and its offerings made our wedding day perfect.
My husband and I couldn’t be more grateful to the staff at The Chimney House for creating a beautiful and memorable day for us.
The communication from start to finish was excellent, and the day ran smoothly and flawlessly; everything was taken care of for us, allowing us to relax and enjoy every moment.
The venue was dressed to perfection and is one of the most unique venues, which drew us to it in the first place. The food was the most incredible meal we’ve ever had, and the chefs were amazing at catering to everyone. Each of our guests commented on it being the best wedding meal they have ever experienced and can’t stop raving about it!
Everyone we have spoken to at The Chimney House along the journey has been warm and friendly, and that has been the most important and memorable part for us. Thank you to everyone involved; we couldn’t have done it without you!
As soon as we saw The Chimney House, we knew this was where we wanted our meal for our wedding day.
It is a fabulous location with a unique architectural feel. With only eight weeks’ notice, we worked with the team to pull everything together, from food choices to confetti throwing. The day was beautiful with blue skies, mouth-watering fabulous food and friendly, attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure the afternoon ran smoothly.
