About
Setting

The Buttery & Glasshouse sits in the Kent countryside, less than an hour from London yet reassuringly removed from the city’s pace. Available on an exclusive-use basis, it brings together the character of a restored 16th-century barn with the clean lines of a contemporary glass reception space, creating a setting where history and modern design complement one another.

At its heart is The Buttery, an oak-framed building that has stood for centuries, while the striking Glasshouse opens onto the terrace and gardens via expansive glazing that fills the space with daylight year-round. Award-winning in-house catering, thoughtful hospitality and on-site accommodation allow couples and their guests to settle in, celebrate without interruption and enjoy the occasion together. Whether planning a classic celebration, an intimate gathering or a twilight wedding, every element has been carefully considered so the day unfolds with ease from beginning to end.

Ceremony

The Buttery & Glasshouse is licensed for civil ceremonies in three distinct settings, allowing couples to choose the backdrop that best reflects their day’s style. Whether exchanging vows beneath centuries-old oak beams, on the terrace surrounded by gardens or beneath the Glasshouse’s domed roof, each ceremony space offers its own character while remaining closely connected to the rest of the celebration.

Most ceremonies take place in The Buttery, a beautifully restored oak-framed barn dating back to the 16th century. Originally used to store food, wine and ale for the neighbouring manor house, it now provides a warm, intimate setting where original timber beams, natural textures and soft daylight create a sense of history without feeling formal.

During the warmer months, The Terrace offers an outdoor ceremony space enclosed by ancient stone walls and open skies. For larger celebrations, or for couples drawn to a more contemporary aesthetic, The Glasshouse provides a light-filled alternative, where floor-to-ceiling glazing creates an ever-changing backdrop of gardens and sky.

Exclusive use allows the day to move naturally from ceremony to drinks, dining and dancing without changing venue, giving couples and guests time to relax and enjoy each stage of the celebration together.

Selected spring and summer dates are also available as part of the Twilight Collection. Unlike many evening wedding packages, these celebrations begin later in the day while still making the most of long afternoons, outdoor ceremonies, drinks on the terrace and golden-hour photography before the evening reception begins.

Reception

From the first drinks to the final dance, receptions flow naturally between The Buttery, The Terrace and The Glasshouse. Each space serves a different purpose, encouraging guests to move effortlessly through the celebration while maintaining a relaxed pace throughout the day.

The Terrace links the venue’s historic and contemporary buildings, providing a natural gathering place for drinks, canapés and photographs. As daylight fades, subtle lighting changes its character, inviting guests outdoors to enjoy warm spring and summer evenings between courses and dancing.

The Glasshouse forms the centrepiece of the reception. Created exclusively for weddings, its contemporary architecture sits comfortably alongside the surrounding historic buildings, offering a striking contrast that feels balanced rather than competing for attention. A retractable domed roof and south-facing floor-to-ceiling glazing flood the room with natural light, while the terrace beyond remains closely connected to the celebration inside.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere naturally shifts from the wedding breakfast to speeches, dancing, and late-night celebrations. The Glasshouse adapts with ease to both traditional all-day weddings and the venue’s Twilight Collection, providing an elegant setting that feels equally suited to relaxed gatherings and larger celebrations.

Throughout the day, the experienced in-house team quietly oversees every detail, while award-winning food and attentive service allow couples to spend their time with family and friends rather than managing the logistics.

Accommodation

A wedding at The Buttery & Glasshouse can extend well beyond the final dance. With nine individually designed en-suite bedrooms, a Honeymoon Suite and accommodation within the historic Bull Hotel, couples and guests can remain together, turning the celebration into a relaxed overnight stay rather than a single day’s event.

Instead of departing at the end of the evening, guests can stroll back to their rooms, enjoy a final drink together and meet again over breakfast the following morning. The result is an atmosphere that feels welcoming and unhurried, giving everyone more time to share the occasion.

Each bedroom reflects the character of the coaching inn, combining heritage-inspired interiors with modern comfort. Rich colours, patterned wallpapers and carefully chosen furnishings acknowledge the building’s history while providing a comfortable place to rest.

Many couples choose to arrive the day before the wedding, allowing time to settle in, spend time with family and friends, and prepare without feeling rushed. Separate spaces are available for both partners while getting ready, and the Signature Set-up Day offers an afternoon for decorating, welcoming suppliers and putting the finishing touches in place before the celebrations begin.

Rather than simply providing somewhere to stay, the accommodation allows the wedding to unfold over two days, creating the feeling of having a country house exclusively for family and friends, where every moment can be enjoyed at a gentler pace.

Food & Drink

Food plays a central role in every wedding at The Buttery & Glasshouse. Prepared by the venue’s award-winning in-house kitchen, every menu is created by the team who know the venue best, giving couples confidence that the food and service are carefully coordinated throughout the day.

Using British produce and seasonal ingredients wherever possible, the chefs create menus that balance refined presentation with generous hospitality. Couples can choose from classic three-course dining, contemporary buffets or sharing-style celebrations, with every dish prepared fresh and served by the experienced front-of-house team.

One of the venue’s signature experiences is the Smokehouse Feast. Prepared in an authentic Ole Hickory Pits smoker imported from Texas, meats are slowly cooked over wood smoke to develop rich flavour before being served with generous sharing dishes. It offers a relaxed alternative to a traditional wedding breakfast and has become a favourite choice for couples looking to create a memorable dining experience.

As the evening continues, freshly made artisan pizzas are hand-stretched and baked to order, giving guests another opportunity to gather before returning to the dance floor.

Wines, handcrafted cocktails, local ales and premium drinks complete the celebration, all served by the in-house team from the first post-ceremony toast to the final glass of the evening.

Local Area

Although less than an hour from London, The Buttery & Glasshouse feels comfortably removed from city life. Hidden behind the historic Bull Hotel in the village of Wrotham, it sits at the foot of the North Downs within Kent’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by rolling countryside, ancient woodland and quiet village lanes.

The Bull Hotel has welcomed travellers for more than 600 years and was once licensed by Henry VIII. Today, its long history sits comfortably alongside the contemporary architecture of the Glasshouse, creating a venue where heritage and modern design coexist.

Guests staying overnight can make the most of the surrounding area before or after the wedding. The historic Pilgrims’ Way passes nearby, while National Trust houses and gardens offer opportunities to explore this corner of Kent at a slower pace.

Its location gives couples the feeling of a destination wedding without asking family and friends to travel far, combining a peaceful rural setting with straightforward access from London and the South East.

Getting There

The Buttery & Glasshouse is in the historic village of Wrotham, with straightforward access from both the M20 and M25. London Victoria is around 40 minutes away by train, making the venue convenient for guests travelling from the capital while offering a setting that feels far removed from everyday life.

Sevenoaks and Maidstone are both a short drive away, and the village remains an accessible base for guests staying overnight. The combination of road, rail and on-site accommodation allows everyone to arrive with ease and enjoy the celebration without the need to travel home at the end of the evening.

We got married here on the 5th October and it was an absolute dream. As soon as we saw the venue last year, we knew it was where we wanted to have our wedding- but the team honestly exceeded all expectations. Emma and co worked tirelessly to ensure we had the wedding we wanted and nearly every guest commented to us on how much they loved the venue.

Being able to stay the night before definitely helped my stress levels- and it was incredible to see the whole team working flawlessly to pull together the wedding we had envisioned. A lot of suppliers we used, we found through the venue open day and the organisation between the venue and each one was astonishing.

We went for the Smokehouse feast (pulled pork and beef rib) and it. Was. Epic. We had a lot of compliments on the food from our guests, which (beyond choosing the meats) we definitely can’t take the credit for- so thank you to the chef!

I couldn’t recommend the venue highly enough- they gave us such an incredible day, filled with amazing moments amongst our nearest and dearest.

We got married here just a few days ago, on Sat 8th June 2024. We fell in love with the venue when we visited on their summer open day last year and knew we had to book our wedding here. We loved the relaxed rustic vibe. We are so glad we did! The venue is so versatile, offering various spaces and packages.

We were able to make the space our own with just the right input from Emma, our brilliant wedding co-ordinator. Emma was great, through all the planning and preparation, and on the day itself from start to finish. We felt in very safe hands and the day ran like clockwork due to the brilliant staff.

The food was also amazing, and something which made our day extra special was being able to include our Labrador, as the venue is dog friendly! Many of our guests are still commenting on how much they loved the venue, food and staff. You won’t regret booking your wedding here.

Thank you so much.

We can honestly say we are so grateful for all of your help on our special day, you made us feel so calm and at ease throughout the whole day. And even with the downpour of rain the day felt incredible. We have had so many people comment to us on how lovely The Bull, The Buttery and The Glass House are, they truly are little hidden gems.

Kayleigh and Bradley

Amazing wedding venue and planning. Emma and the team made our dream day go seamlessly and we thoroughly enjoyed every second. The food, the space, the customer service and the thoughtfulness / attention to detail in the lead up and on the day. We loved the fact we could stay the night before with our close friends and family to set up and it made the morning after really relaxing. We even took our young daughter to the park round the corner after breakfast before the morning preparations began! We had plenty of time the morning after the wedding to enjoy breakfast, check out and clear up the rest of our things. We were not rushed and so many guests commented how relaxed the day was.

We would like to say a massive thank you for everything that you did for us on our wedding day, it was amazing thanks to you guys. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue is and just how good the food was. We also wanted to thank you so much for doing all you could to accommodate our special guest and you holding things for as long as you could to allow her time to get ready means the world to us, it made our day truly special. Another big thank for the lovely gift left in our room, a truly beautiful gesture. Thank you for making it the special day we had hoped for from the very start when we booked to the end when were checking out.

Nicola & Joseph

I’d like to say a big thanks to Team Bull. You were all amazing and made our wedding extra special. The food and service were brilliant. The coordinators eased any pressure we had before hand and the whole day went as smooth as we imagined. Good luck with all the up-and-coming weddings. Hope the brides and grooms are as happy as we are.

Donna & Craig

On the day of the wedding itself, they treated not only us but all of our guests like royalty and made every one of them feel relaxed and special. The extra special attention they paid to some of the older generation with mobility issues was extremely heartwarming, nothing and I mean nothing was too much trouble. I am a bit of a control freak and work controlling Process and Procedures so have very exacting standards but had absolutely no problem letting the team handle everything and for this we were rewarded with a day that went like clockwork and a day that was enjoyed by everyone. Although I am writing this it comes from not only me and my husband but from the guests that we had at the wedding, as we have received so many fabulous comments since the wedding, not only on how much our guests enjoyed the day but also on The Bull Hotel and their staff (all of them). As you can imagine from this review, we would not have any hesitation in recommending The Bull to anyone, they make a special day ‘Fantastic’ and memorable for the right reasons.

Married July 2024

Anthony & Steven

The Buttery and Glasshouse is stunning, and I honestly can’t imagine us having got married anywhere else now! We didn’t see another venue that was anything like as special as this – the spaces, surroundings, and design are all gorgeous and provide a really flexible setting for whatever kind of wedding you’re envisaging. You can style it in so many ways, but it’s also really beautiful even without tons of added decoration.

The food was out of this world – multiple guests have said it was one of the best meals of their life! We really wanted excellent food without having the wedding anywhere really formal or exclusive, and it honestly couldn’t have been better than it was. We also had a delicious evening buffet and next morning breakfast which was all amazing too.

We were just blown away by how wonderful our wedding day was, and so much of that was down to the incredible team at The Buttery and Glasshouse. We worked with Leigh Anne when we first booked our wedding there at the start of this year, and subsequently with Catherine as our wedding coordinator. A month after the big day, we’re missing being in touch with them, as they’d become like friends to us. They couldn’t have done more – they are warm and personable, communicative, and super organised. We had total confidence in their ability to deliver everything we discussed, and also loved that they were so receptive to ideas rather than sticking to a package of limited options. Our day felt so personal and full of joy, largely thanks to the talented people we worked with who made it possible for us to bring our vision to life.

Beyond the coordinators, we found all the staff, we interacted with totally competent and so lovely – and it all added to the ease and atmosphere of a beautiful day. We will be grateful to the whole team at The Bull always for the most perfect day that we can’t stop talking about!

Thank you so much for putting together our dream wedding. We are completely blown away by everything the staff did to make it so special for us. The food was incredible, and everyone said they thought the venue was just beautiful. We loved every second of the day and I would definitely do it all over again.

Megan & Sam

I’ve been trying to find the right words to express how grateful we, and all of our family and friends are to you and all of the staff at The Bull.

From the moment we met you, and saw the venue we just knew this is where we were meant to get married. You were nothing short of amazing, you put my mind at ease, and handled everything with professionalism and you really cared about giving us the perfect day. The venue is stunning, guests who are getting married this year wish they’d found you before making their booking elsewhere, everyone absolutely loved the day.

You, Dijon and Stacey felt like part of the family and we appreciated everything you did for us. It was the day I’d always dreamed of. Honestly Leigh Anne, we can’t thank you enough.
