Stockton House, a historic Georgian property built in 1702, offers an intimate and luxurious escape to the Shropshire countryside. Surrounded by 8,500 acres of the Apley Estate, the house is a testament to over 300 years of heritage. The estate encompasses sweeping fields, serene woodlands, and the gentle flow of the River Severn. Every room in Stockton House has been meticulously crafted to showcase the area’s stunning natural beauty, providing a backdrop of peace and timeless elegance for any celebration. Nearby, the historic towns of Ironbridge and Bridgnorth add to the charm of the setting.
For your ceremony, Stockton House offers two distinct options. Outdoors, vows can be exchanged beneath the sheltering tree canopy, with guests seated on the lawn and a custom aisle created for your entrance.
With its civil ceremony licence, the intimate Victorian turning house at the bottom of the garden adds a truly unique touch-after signing the register, the house rotates 360 degrees before you step out, newly married, to greet your guests.
Alternatively, St Chad’s Church, just a short stroll down the lane, provides a beautiful setting for either a ceremony or blessing, rich with historic architecture and centuries of tradition.
The reception is hosted in a purpose-built, 100-seater dining room, cleverly disguised as a secret walled garden-a charming design inspired by 18th-century aesthetics. This enchanting space serves as a setting for civil ceremonies and a venue for the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. Once inside, guests are greeted with a large, open space featuring a double-curved ceiling, opulent chandeliers, and expansive windows that open to reveal the beauty of the surrounding gardens.
Stockton House provides seven individually designed en-suite bedrooms, each offering a unique blend of Georgian elegance and modern luxury. With features such as roll-top baths overlooking the gardens and private dressing rooms, every guest can enjoy a truly special experience. The stylish interiors create a serene and comfortable retreat, ensuring that guests feel pampered throughout their stay.
At Stockton House, the foodie experience is as bespoke as the venue itself. Exclusive menu tastings, designed to feel like an intimate dinner party, allow you to indulge in the flavours of your wedding day in advance. The venue’s chefs work closely with you to create a personalised menu while your hosts guide you through each course, helping you plan the perfect dining experience to complement your special day.
In line with a commitment to sustainability, Stockton House uses eco-friendly systems wherever possible. The heating and water supply are powered by a wood chip boiler fuelled by locally sourced wood from the surrounding Apley Estate. Even the luxurious carpets are made from recycled plastics, ensuring that comfort and sustainability go hand in hand throughout the venue.
Stockton House is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area. The picturesque riverside town of Bridgnorth is only 10 minutes away, while Telford, known for its great shopping, is just a 15-minute drive. These nearby locations offer additional options for entertainment and last-minute preparations, making Stockton House a perfect weekend destination.
Stockton House is conveniently located 5 miles from Telford train station, which provides direct links to Birmingham. It is also just 5 miles from the M54 motorway, making it easily accessible for guests arriving by car or train.
It’s been a week since our wedding at Stockton House, and it’s still difficult to put into words how truly incredible this venue and its team really are.
We visited nearly 20 venues across the Midlands before making our choice, and the Stockton House team were by far the most welcoming, caring and professional group of people we encountered. Amy, Ellie, Tom, M&S, and the rest of the team were fantastic in the run-up to our wedding and went above and beyond to ensure our day ran as smoothly as possible. They remembered so many tiny personal details that made us feel so special on the day—we don’t believe any other venue would ever take this much care in getting to know their couples.
From the incredible food to the beautiful decor and wonderful team, if our day is anything to go by, you will not be disappointed when choosing Stockton House for your wedding venue!
Married June 2024
We find ourselves at a loss for adequate enough adjectives to describe just how extraordinary this wedding venue is. Nothing about it is average, and unless you’ve had the privilege of getting married there, it would be hard to fully appreciate the magic that Stockton House holds.
Our journey with Stockton House began in 2021 when the building was undergoing renovation. Despite the hard hats and high-visibility jackets, we were captivated. It possessed a unique personal feeling we hadn’t encountered in the 12+ venues we had visited. As the months passed, the building’s transformation unfolded, surpassing our wildest dreams.
Early on, Amy and Ellie became integral to our wedding experience. They provided unwavering support through texts, emails, and valuable ideas, even influencing our choice of napkins and tablecloths, all whilst giving us constant words of encouragement.
Stockton House understands that a wedding revolves around your loved ones. They encourage you to involve them in the planning process. Our menu tasting wasn’t just for us, but four additional guests, too. It quickly became evident that no detail was too small for the Stockton team, who were dedicated to perfection. Head chef Tom joined us between courses to discuss dishes and ingredient sourcing. The exceptional options made our choices challenging, but Stockton was accommodating when we requested changes, such as a crouton changing to a sourdough crisp or the malbec swapping to a specific Primitivo.
When the big weekend arrived, Amy and Ellie were there to guide us through the setup and ensure everything ran smoothly. Tom outdid himself with every single food element. From a Thai extravaganza on Friday to venison perfection for 80 guests and the world’s best dessert, Stockton House set a new standard for wedding cuisine. Their take on KFC for evening food and a remarkable 80-person BBQ to continue celebrations the following day earned high praise. Our foodie hearts swelled with pride as guests and suppliers alike declared it the best wedding food they’d ever tasted.
The housekeepers, Mandy and Sue, maintained impeccable cleanliness and hospitality, even repurposing some of our décor for a delightful breakfast surprise the following day. We also later found out that Amy briefed the team about us as a couple, which added a personalised touch. Our wedding day at Stockton House was flawless, with not a single disappointment -except for the fact that it had to end. However, Stockton won’t be rid of us easily; we plan to return whenever possible. We’ve already stopped by for a catch-up and were welcomed with open arms, a testament to the incredible team.
Choosing Stockton House as our wedding venue was the second-best decision we ever made, with the first being our decision to get married in the first place. We can’t imagine our day without this extraordinary venue and the exceptional team behind it. Words alone cannot express our gratitude, but we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Married September 2023
Stockton House’s idea of your day, your way, is genuine truth. Amy, Ellie, Tom and the whole team go above and beyond to provide an experience like no other. Where, by the end, you are friends and not just customers. We were incredibly worried about our reactive dog, but the team went out of their way (over months) to gain his trust and become his friend as well – meaning we were able to have him be a true part of our day like we had dreamed.
The answer was never no; there was always a solution; they all worked tirelessly around the clock to give us the best treatment and exactly what we wanted for our day. They treat their suppliers and customers with the utmost dignity and respect. So many suppliers have told us how wonderful it is to work at Stockton.
It is a magical venue and an amazing family to become part of – you would not regret your decision with this venue and these fantastic people.
Married August 2024
My bridal party and the groomsmen all got ready in the house. We had plenty of food and drinks throughout the morning, and nothing was too much trouble. We married in the on-site church, which was perfect, and when we were all done, we had drinks waiting for us.
Everything I had worried about melted away when we saw our guests enjoying the beautiful house and surroundings. Not one guest had a negative word to say. In the days after our wedding everyone has commented how truly wonderful, accommodating and friendly all the staff were. Including some of our external vendors!
My favourite thing may have been walking through the house to see one of the servers pouring my two young cousins’ tea and putting on posh voices, indulging them totally as ‘big girls’.
I have been a pretty big pain, I’m sure mostly everyone will agree, with weird demands that I think everyone was probably sick of by the time we got to the day, but Amy and Ellie agreed to everything I asked and wanted with the word no being totally off limits.
We had the most amazing day, and I hate that it’s all over, but I love that I now have the amazing memories of a perfect day.
To everyone at Stockton, but mainly to Amy, thank you for putting up with me and making my day everything I ever wanted. I hope you know we will 100% be back whenever you have open days.
Married October 2022
We celebrated our wedding at Stockton House in Shifnal, Shropshire. We paid our deposit in late 2021 to reserve our wedding date for the 15th of July, 2023. Stockton House and its delightful staff, Amy, Tom, Ellie, et al., exceeded our expectations and helped to make it a day that we’ll never forget.
The secret garden room perfectly held our modest party of 35 guests during the day and 50 in the evening. The house and the grounds are beautiful and have a charm you only get with an historic venue. Tom, the head chef, worked with us to create a delicious menu within our budget whilst accommodating specific dietary requirements that left no guests hungry and who are still talking about the quality to this day.
It has a very relaxing atmosphere, and there’s no rush to kick you out, as they hold only one wedding per weekend. The two housekeepers, Mandy and Sue, were a dream and looked after us beautifully.
If you’re after a venue that will create a bespoke wedding day, leave your guests talking about the amazing food and service and leave you with memories that you’ll never forget; look no further. Highly recommended.
Married July 2023
We could not have asked for more from our wedding venue, and choosing Stockton House was the best decision ever. We took a risk and booked Stockton in 2022 when renovations had barely started and never looked back. Stockton House is absolutely beautiful and it was amazing to see all of the vision boards and ideas come to life; we will never forget the excitement when we visited for the first time!
The whole planning process was smooth, and Amy, Ellie, and Tom supported us. We felt so welcome each time we visited Stockton and were comfortable there. Nothing was too much trouble, from helping and encouraging Ilya when he felt nervous about his speech and sitting with him as he ran through it the day before to Amy crawling around on the bridal suite floor with me when I lost the back of my earring (not once but twice) just as I needed to get into my dress! We could not have been more supported by the fantastic team at Stockton.
The food was amazing, from our menu tasting to the meal the evening before the wedding, on the day, and not forgetting breakfast! Tom is an incredible chef, and we are so grateful that he was able to make our favourite Russian dessert; he put so much time and effort into this, and it was amazing. All of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the food!
Our wedding day was truly the best day of our lives, and Stockton House was the perfect venue for us. We only wish we could do it all over again. Stockton now feels like a second home, and the team have become friends, and we can’t wait to visit again. I cannot recommend this amazing venue enough! Thank you so much for making our wedding dreams come true.
Married June 2024
Stunning property with gorgeous views, beautiful bedrooms and general accommodation, and incredibly nice, sweet, polite, and helpful staff. They made the entire process of wedding planning and execution seamless! Amy and Ellie were amazing and incredibly helpful through each step of making our dream celebrations come to life! We could not have picked a better venue and could not have asked for a better team! We loved every minute of it!
Amy even helped me with the laces on my trainers when my heels started to kill me. To say the service was above and beyond is an understatement!
