Silchester Farm is an exclusive-use wedding venue in the Hampshire countryside, bringing together historic barns, gardens, a lake and on-site accommodation across one private rural estate. At its heart stands the 400-year-old Hampshire Threshing Barn, where original oak beams and centuries-old timbers give the farm a strong sense of history and place.

The estate offers several distinct spaces throughout the day. Alongside the Threshing Barn are the Old Hen House and courtyard, Cow Shed, Woodshed, Dutch Barn, and outdoor kitchen, with gardens, a terrace, and a Kitchen Garden beyond. Rather than spending the celebration in a single room, couples and their guests can move naturally between different parts of the farm as the day unfolds.

Exclusive use lets couples make the estate their own for the wedding day, while the mix of historic buildings and open countryside creates a setting that feels unmistakably rural without being tied to one particular style.

Couples can choose between two licensed ceremony settings at Silchester Farm. Inside, the 400-year-old Hampshire Threshing Barn hosts ceremonies for up to 140 guests beneath its original oak beams, with warm strings of lights illuminating the historic timbers.

Outdoors, vows can be exchanged beside the lake beneath the sweeping branches of a weeping willow. The waterside setting offers a very different feel while keeping the ceremony at the heart of the estate.

You don’t need to commit to indoors or outdoors months ahead. Both options can remain available until the wedding day, allowing the final decision to respond to the weather and the atmosphere couples want to create.

For a traditional church ceremony, St Mary the Virgin Church is a short distance from the farm. The flint-walled village church stands on a site with a history stretching back to Roman Silchester, and guests can then return to the estate for the reception.

After the ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks and canapés in the Old Hen House and its Mediterranean-style courtyard before moving to the Cow Shed for dinner, speeches, and dancing. Its open-plan interior centres around a seven-metre cocktail bar, while a large picture window frames the sunset beyond.

Elsewhere, the Dutch Barn and outdoor kitchen provide space for more informal gatherings, and the gardens and terrace give guests room to move outside throughout the celebration.

Drinks can also take to the road, albeit only around the farm. Ernie, the vintage milk float, and the estate’s classic Land Rover Defender can be used for cocktail hour, serving locally brewed in-house beers and Wingless Eagle spirits.

With different spaces taking on different roles, the reception can naturally shift pace as the day moves from drinks and dinner into the evening.

Staying at Silchester Farm allows the celebrations to continue without leaving the estate. Accommodation spans a collection of houses, suites, and individually designed Pyggies, each with its own character.

The Grade II listed Farmhouse has seven bedrooms and sleeps 15, with space to gather for breakfast or dinner. Barn House, a former grain house, has five double rooms and one twin, sleeping 12, while The Granary provides a private, unplugged suite for two. At The Drift, nine hand-built, hygge-style Pyggies sleep two guests each.

The estate’s head chef prepares breakfast and delivers it to guests, creating an easy final gathering before everyone says goodbye.

Food at Silchester Farm follows the seasons and draws on the surrounding countryside. The in-house chefs create everything from formal seated meals and sharing platters to open-fire feasts, using locally sourced ingredients alongside herbs, fruit and vegetables grown in the Kitchen Garden and allotment.

Where possible, ingredients come from Hampshire and within a 70-mile radius, giving the menu a genuine connection to the farm and its surroundings. They also use produce foraged from the estate when available.

The Cow Shed’s seven-metre bar serves Wingless Eagle spirits, locally brewed beers, wines and other drinks, with experienced mixologists and servers behind the bar. Ernie, the vintage milk float, and the farm’s classic Land Rover provide alternative places to serve drinks outdoors.

Couples can add further touches throughout the day, from giant sharing pavlovas and English sparkling wine towers to s’mores hampers around the fire pits as the sun sets over the Dutch Barn.

Silchester Farm takes a practical approach to sustainability across its food, accommodation and grounds. Produce is grown in the Kitchen Garden or foraged from the estate where possible, with local suppliers prioritised and garden, fruit and food waste composted or recycled.

Single-use plastics have been reduced across the bars, while accommodation uses refillable toiletries and, where possible, vintage or pre-owned furniture. The Drift is heated and cooled by air-source heat pumps. Outside, native planting, protected wildlife habitats and rare-breed sheep support the management of the grounds.

The farm continues to review its suppliers and working practices, looking for practical ways to reduce waste and care for the surrounding countryside.

Silchester Farm sits in the historic Hampshire village of Silchester, around five miles north of Basingstoke and nine miles south-west of Reading. Its rural position puts guests in open countryside while keeping towns, rail connections, and major roads within easy reach.

The village has a history stretching back to Roman Britain. Silchester is the site of Calleva Atrebatum, where visitors can see some of Britain’s best-preserved Roman town walls and the remains of its amphitheatre. Scenic walking routes are also accessible directly from the farm.

For something closer to home, the village pub overlooks Silchester Common and is within walking distance, giving guests staying on the estate another place to gather during their visit.

Silchester Farm is well connected to Basingstoke, Reading and London despite its countryside setting. The farm lies around five miles north of Basingstoke and nine miles south-west of Reading, with convenient access from both the M3 and M4. On-site parking is available for wedding and event guests.

By rail, Basingstoke has frequent direct services from London Waterloo, while Reading connects directly with London Paddington and the wider rail network. Guests can complete the final part of the journey to the farm by taxi.
