Sandon Manor sits within 1,200 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside, combining historic charm with nature-rich surroundings. The recently restored Queen Anne Manor House stands at the heart of the estate, accompanied by the Dovecote – a standalone building that preserves its heritage features, including a wall of original boulins.
The estate has been lovingly rewilded, creating private nature reserves and scenic walks for guests. Across the seasons, wildlife, meadows, and woodland offer a quietly captivating backdrop, blending history and countryside intimacy just over an hour from central London.
Couples can choose between two distinctive settings for their intimate wedding. The Heritage Hall, located in the historic Manor House, at the base of its grand, winding staircase, offers a stately yet intimate space for up to 18 guests. Alternatively, the Grain Barn offers light-filled, nature-inspired surroundings overlooking Sandon Manor’s reserves, accommodating up to 30 guests.
Both spaces emphasise natural light, heritage, and privacy, allowing couples to exchange vows in an environment that reflects their style and the personal nature of their celebration.
The reception spaces are designed for relaxed dining and dancing, tailored to your vision. The Manor House Drawing Room, beneath heritage oak beams, exudes timeless charm and warmth, while the Grain Barn’s internal courtyard doubles as a Winter Garden, filled with natural light and views of the surrounding nature.
Each reception reflects your style – a joyful, personal, and intimate celebration where guests can move freely between rooms and outdoor areas. Two nights of self-catering accommodation ensure time to enjoy every moment with loved ones.
Couples and their closest guests can stay on-site in two main properties. The Manor House accommodates up to 16 guests, featuring spacious bedrooms and the option to add the Dovecote for an additional two guests. The Grain Barn accommodates 22 in ensuite bedrooms, with two additional apartments available for up to eight extra guests.
Abundant natural light, stylish interiors, and Hypnos beds combine comfort with character, creating a relaxed, immersive stay that extends the celebration.
Sandon Manor offers flexible catering options to suit any celebration. Couples may opt for self-catering, allowing for a relaxed and budget-conscious approach, or work with trusted local partners to curate menus for rehearsal dinners, wedding breakfasts, evening meals, and post-wedding brunches.
Private chefs can provide a fully catered stay, while guests are welcome to bring their own drinks, with no corkage fee. Every element can be tailored to your preferences.
Sandon Manor integrates sustainability across its estate and operations. Measures include air source heat pumps, solar panels with battery storage, EV charging points, rainwater harvesting, and rewilding over 1,000 acres to support biodiversity.
Public nature spaces connect visitors to wildlife, while recycling and local partnerships promote responsible stewardship. The venue balances guest comfort with environmental care, reflecting a commitment to a greener future.
Sandon Manor sits just outside Royston, Hertfordshire, surrounded by rolling fields and the tranquil village of Sandon. Nearby market towns, farm shops, and country pubs offer charming excursions, while Cambridge’s historic architecture and London’s energy are both within easy reach.
The estate offers a peaceful retreat while maintaining accessibility to cultural and city experiences for weekend celebrations or extended stays.
Sandon Manor is one hour from central London, 10 minutes from the A1, and 15 minutes from Stevenage station. For groups with more than five cars, the visitor car park located at the far side of the barns is recommended, which includes EV charging points.
By train, Royston station provides access, with taxis recommended for onward travel.
